  1. Have you checked that your door switches are not stuck?
  2. also check for a broken spring or springs...both front springs were broken on my '94 when I bought it. The last three cars I've had all had broken front springs..Honda,Merc. Lex.
  3. Here is my two pennorth.......rising and diving suspension- check them shocks and springs again Vibration when braking check if you have lost any balance weights and that no calipers are seized or seizing. Clunking when turning ,do them ball joints,I saw an LS broke down with the nearside one collapsed, not a pretty sight.Heavy car sitting on them. Odd tyre wear, ball joints or tracking??? Rest ...check all suspension bushes, anti roll bar bushes etc. Hope it's not too scary.....
  4. I think alternator too..... Ask someone to measure accross the battery terminals with a multimeter, while the engine is at about 1500 rpm. should show 13.odd to 14.odd volts i.e to show your alternator is charging :winky:
  5. It cost me £62 to have my Ls 400 regassed, the guy cleaned out all the system first [evacuated?]. It took a couple of hours! B)
  6. Re LS 400 w/shop manuals there are three[one is wiring] Send a PM to Chris Shipley,if you must have 'em Not cheap but plenty info. They are 100mm high if stacked!
  7. Hi! Check the speed sensors on the inside [usually] of the disc. They look like castle walls[except of course they are circular] If any of the "castles" are full of dirt this will cause that problem,it happens on my old Merc. :o It may not be the only cause but worth doing anyway. :winky: cheers
  8. Yep....front indicators still on ebay...£40 last time I looked...
  9. Previous writer CB is correct re idle. There is an "idle up" arrangement that increases the engine speed when the aircon is on, this is normal. At least on my '94 it is! I think this also happens if the steering is on full lock. :winky:
  10. Rmove the large cover underneath the engine and all will be revealed! After that it's a staightforward job..... :winky:
  11. spot on mudz, I think a new wire is called for, mine was the same on the back. I just joined them and left the warning inoperative on one wheel until I get around to going for a new one. As the the rear pads wear slower it's not desperate and the other side is OK.
  12. Re pad warning light..if your warning system is the same as my '94 check the wires behind the discs that they are connected ok at the plug, also on my '94 the warning light comes on when wire loop end next to the pad wears through[open circuit]. If yours is the same check all these ends are not 'open circuit'
  13. just my two cents worth.....If you spend your day stuck in traffic, burning fuel to go nowhere the LS will be more expensive than ever. If you like tearing round country lanes and sporty driving the Ls won't suit you. If like me you want to go on a journey with nothing to do except listen to your cd's in big armchair, sod the expense and get the LS! B)
  14. Re this scam,I have heard scary tales of people who foolishly made contact with these people being theatened in this country. Taken by force to the bank and made to withdraw cash. May be fairy tales.....but best to stay out of it.
  15. Hi Chris! This was my first thought,I was hoping to find a refurbisher near to where I live [lazy s**] but as yet cannot find one!
  16. My LS alloys ['94] are now looking really bad and spoil the car. :yack: Can anyone suggest a suitable aftermarket set that suit?....[not the thin spindly types!] Or would you just get the originals refurbished? Happy with 16" at present 'cos the tyres are as new. Any ideas?.. there are so many makes I went dizzy looking.
  17. WOW! I've got a '94 and I would certainly get a second opinion on that lot. You made me feel quite sick!!!
  18. Hi! This might be a place to start or ask http://carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusLS400str1.htm
  19. Sorry to here about your sad news, hope something good ultimately comes out of it for you ............
  20. Hi! On my 94 LS the vin plate is on the left hand side of the inner wing near where the suspension strut top nuts are, if you are standing in front of the car looking toward the windscreen. I pay similar price with direct line..husband and wife only driving. cheers RT
  21. Re aircon, on my LS the aircon will not trip in at zero degrees i.e. freezing point. Try yours again on a mild day......if it works you got a great deal!!! cheers RoyT ;)
  22. Re a/c compressor..on my 94 LS the compressor would not run when the system was short of gas. If you can see the front of the compressor, you can see the front of the pulley click in and run when a/c is working. If it does not 'cycle' [ click in and out] there is a fault. I put a dab of paint on the front so I could see it better. ;)
  23. Just had my aircon checked and regassed,do not know if yours similar to my LS400 but my compressor would not run. Apparently, if low on gas it will not trip in.I expected a leak but when the guy came round and tested it there was still a bit of gas in it. He spent about an hour evacuating the system and then regassed it. £62quid.....it works now but summer is the test!! :winky:
