Naaaah, i get 30 days holiday a year ( six weeks ) one day is no loss. all i need from you is as much notice as possible, or i can write the procedure for you to take. The time factor for the geometry on average is 1 hour 30 min, with the link i had with Mr Morse his geometry took, as i remember about 4 hours, talking the company through it.... so as you see i cannot support you if i were at STS, but i can 100% here at home :D Today i set an IS that had European Castor positions, it needed small front camber correction, before adjusting i mentioned you and the Castor problem and i said 'watch how i correct' this non-adjustable Castor, end of job cambers re-set/ Castor's re-set 'UK' positions / toe re-set.... WOW that's a new one..... reads very good. What i would like you to do if its ok with you is this. 1: allow me to write the procedure and the settings 2: give me notice for the adjustment day 3: i will then book the day off work and provide a 'live link' for you and the centre. This is not a problem i have done the same for Anees and Mr Morse, i said i would help and i stand by my word....... to the end! ← That is too generous of an offer - I couldn't have you booking a day off work, could I not pay STS for your time, just for the duration of the set up. I'd be just like a normal customer to them, except you'd be dealing with me on the phone. No point in wasting a days holiday for the sake of an hour. It would probably be an industry first.

Some possible good news Tony - I've been told by a guy on a local forum that one of our large independant tyre centres let him pay for the alignment and do it him self. If they let some one do that, then they should be open to cronstructive input to a geometry session.

Don't mind a bit. And no Colin, I didn't get a refund - I couldn't really say anything since I didn't know what to tell him to say he was wrong, and he did let me decide what way the Camber and toe were set (mistake on my part for asking ) Maybe when I get it sorted (at a different Centre) I could write to the company explaining that my tracking was not set right and ask for a refund. For some reason, it is not as expensive over here for the Geometry - I was quoted £35 and got charged £30 since I bought 4 18" SP9000's at the same time. You were nearly there - just keep going. To convert numbers from decimal to binary requires successive division. To manually convert from a decimal to a binary number, start with the decimal number and begin dividing by the binary number base (base "two"). For each step the division results in a remainder of 1, use '1' in that position of the binary number. When the division results in a remainder of 0 instead, use '0' in that position. Stop when the division results in a value of 0. The resulting binary numbers are ordered from right to left. For example, the decimal number 327 converts to binary as follows: 327 / 2 = 163 remainder 1 163 / 2 = 81 remainder 1 81 / 2 = 40 remainder 1 40 / 2 = 20 remainder 0 20 / 2 = 10 remainder 0 10 / 2 = 5 remainder 0 5 / 2 = 2 remainder 1 2 / 2 = 1 remainder 0 1 / 2 = 0 remainder 1 Therefore the decimal number 327 equals the binary number 101000111.

Don't laugh, I did that once - at a sound off competition in Letterkenny. They were going to disqualify me for not having the box secured so I fired some screws through the sub box and into the foor. Thankfully I was driving a diesel at the time. All worked out well and I broke the Irish record for SPL.

I think when this is resolved, I'll have to write a little letter to the head office detailing the situation - and include a link to the wheels-inmotion website for reference material when they realise they need to retrain.

I'm starting to feel bulletproof now :) Is a 'caster swing' a basic alignment term they are likley to be familiar with? I think I understand why it will fix it now - which should help when I'm 'discussing' the matter. Does this sound right? As the camber is adjusted towards the negative, the wheel will 'toe out' - then the toe is pulled in by rotaing the wheel around the kingpin which moves the wheel forward and brings the Caster in to spec l

I don't feel belittled, because I was able to sit there and tell him that he had not done the job right - knowing that it was down to his ignorance. I feel pity for him, for not being able to take the opportunity to develop his knowledge and understanding of his job - just so he wouldn't look bad. I've checked them out and can't find an email address - but I like your style :) Symmetry - so simple and obvious - yet overlooked by some one who does this 'everyday' I'm sooooo looking forward to reminding him about his "guarantee" that the caster won't be affected by the camber. Pride is a terrible thing! I went back to the Tyre Centre today to ask about getting the geometry corrected. The guy told me it was not possible to adjust the caster on the IS. I told him it was, indirectly by adjusting the Toe and camber He told me it might change it a bit, but not significantly enough to bring it with in the green limits. "I guarentee it" I explained your offer to talk him through it He declined "that won't be neccessary" I asked him if he knew Ackermans theory He said no - with a blank look on his face I asked if he would try adjusting the camber to see if it works He agreed, but again guaranteed it wouldn't fix it. "we adjust cars here every day etc" With him being unwilling to talk to you in case you show up the fact that he can't do his job right - what information should I arm myself with when I go down again. I don't mind reading up on some theory, if needs be, to talk to him (or his boss). Thanks again for your help.

cool ← If that doesn't work - let me know, I think I have a decent data recovery disc that you can boot from a floppy. I had a SATA 160GB disc that died on me and windows would not recognise it unless I formatted it. Using this program, I was able to recover all my files.

Thank you every one for your advice - I'll go check out a few of the ideas. The value at present is only about £600, not a fortune, but I wouldn't mind having the ability to use the money in case I need it ( buying a new house at the minute)

I did notice when driving that the car had a slight left pull, I wasn't sure if it was geometry or just the road camber - but now I am wiser. I'll be back down to them this weekend, and I'll let you know how I get on - hopefully including a new print out with all boxes green Thank you ever so much kind Sir.
