  1. Having had nothing but EGR problems with my Diesel and I do an 88 mile round trip to work of which 80 miles is Motorway I'd go for the Petrol if I were you. My 220d averages about 38 MPG and has still only done 68k , I'd never have another one that is for sure ,
  2. Lexus Brum also have a thing about brake pads , mine passed the MOT without even an advisory . Lexus Birmingham keep trying to sell me new ones , which is also peeing me off . Then I find them flogging Brake Discs and Pads on Ebay. They must have surplus stock robbing barstewards
  3. Unusual for an engine to seize that quickly , normally would have to have overheating first and or using all the oil as coolant etc. Had it thrown a rod or something you'd have known about it . Sounds like you've been sold a pup and the previous owner knew what they were doing selling it!
  4. I had an Accord tourer a few years back, and the 2.2 diesel was a cracking engine, the motoring press agreed, so it must have been good. I almost bought one before this Lexus , wish I had now . My son in law has one , traded his 320D in for it as he was so ****** off with the beamer . Not a spot of bother with the Honda and it does more MPG than my Lexus. Going back on topic , I think most Brits see a Lexus as a rebadged Toyota and others seem to think they are expensive , when they are cheaper than the rival Merc BMWs Audis JLR's etc
  5. Well thats obviously your fault for buying the car then isnt it? Its like buying a BMW 114d and complaining it doesnt have enough power ? Not with you mate , why is it my fault the car is unreliable and only does 36 to the gallon and not the claimed 44 mpg? I didn't buy it thinking it did 60 mpg , I can normally get more MPG than the stated company MPG. I suggest you read my post again.
  6. Having a diesel Lexus 220d , it really is not very good at all engine wise . I bought it because it wasn't a BMW or Audi and wanted to be different . Sadly it is different and is back in the dealer again on Monday for another £800 worth of work, a new EGR and a Water pump leak . Less than 36 MPG overall is also disappointing. The hybrid IS300 looks better but I don't do much city driving so I don't do the drive cycle to suit that car . My next car will be a Honda Accord estate , Lexus don't do an estate or a decent engine in the uk. All in all Jap cars don't sell that well over here because they are boring and they don't do diesels that well .
  7. I You've obviously not had a good experience, and without wishing to start anything I don't think the 220d was Lexus's finest achievement. In my experience Lexus have been immaculate and its the first time in 30 years of motoring I've bought the same make twice, let alone in succession. I went into the dealer today to sign the final papers etc and mine is sitting in the showroom looking absolutely fantastic. Don't know how I'm going to get through the next week though! I had a good experience buying it , free coffee and all the bull , good deal etc. 3 years old with Just 24k on the clock I didn't expect to be told just 10,000 mainly motorway miles later all my brakes including discs could do with replacing , needless to say I was not impressed . I'm an contract engineer with JLR Powertrain not some numpty who wouldn't know how to open a bonnet , I've never worn a set of discs out on any car in near 40 years of driving . I don't like being had for a mug , I was also told the current discs were not genuine Toyota , so they had already been changed before 24k !! I do however have a deep seated loathing of Garages, Dealers call them what you like , having worked at a main dealer , during part of my apprenticeship . Lexus having pinned their hopes on hybrid , rather than diesel have sort of helped make up my mind that my next car will be a Jag XF . I won't be buying a BMW, having worked for them and being made redundant so I just couldn't do it. Audi are just a VW. There again I may buy an Accord , having previously had 3 Rover 600's which were bullet proof
  8. Don't think I'll be buying another Lexus , not after this 220d and the poor service from Lexus Birmingham . Thought I'd give lexus a go but They really are nothing special and neither are the rob dog dealers and "service" departments.
  9. Thanks BG tab , I will give that a go . I've tried better quality Diesel fuel and some Comma diesel treatment and it has made a difference . just managed 42 mpg over a full tank , car average is 39mpg . Not sure if this is good for the Lexus 220d . I am an advanced driver who believe it or not works for JLR as an Engineer so get to drive Diesel Jags and Land Rovers. I have to say that they are far better than the Lexus or appear to be at the moment . Time will tell it will either get better or I'll trade it for a Jag XF V6D which are bullet proof engine wise.
  10. I've just bought a 2009 220D had it two days and i'm having to adapt my driving style as the Turbo lag is horrendous when pulling away , are they all like this ? Really is border line dangerous ! I now slip the clutch and rev the nuts off it . It's just had an MOT and Main dealer service and has covered just 25,000 miles. Any ideas would be welcome , it may be just my lack of driving diesels I hope
  11. Google , by chance though as I was just researching a Lexus.
