  1. So did I. I was there getting my Guzzi sorted for an overland trip to India. Hated the place. Then one day it made sense. And kept making sense for several years 🙂
  2. Yes, we've been looking around all over; from Achiltibuie to Dumfries and many points in between. I have a soft spot for Loch Lomond having been brought up there, but I think tourism has made it intolerable to live there any more. I'd like to go back to Italy, but I think I'm getting too old, and these days I need to be near decent medical facilities. Italian medical theory is wonderful. We'll wait out the Brexit stuff and see what happens.
  3. Excellent. I just had a look at your Balmaha and Milarochy pics. I used to live in the former and help with the Siene netting for the Duke at the latter. Payment in those days was a Salmon, or a bag of Powan. Memories! We're thinking of maybe moving back to that area.
  4. Three years on I'm still looking for a local specialist or just a decent garage/mechanic in Peterborough. I need a service and my local place has been replace by new houses. Any ideas folks? Fensport are a bit far away, but any decent non-specialist would suffice. Thanks folks.
  5. Agreed. Lx make cars like MB used to make them. I'm on my third and thinking of a two year old Rx450h or possibly a newer Rav4 Excel. Not tried the Toyota yet. Great stuff on the photo front. If you can make money doing something you enjoy, you'll never "work" again. Do you have a website? On topic: If service is within warranty period, leave it to then. Ear plugs will resolve the OCD until then. 🙂
  6. Nice to see you back on the road again Steve. Have you given up MB's? I pretty much have except for my elderly G. I don't frequent the other board these days. Are you still doing your excellent photo travelogues? Sorry, can't help with the noise 😞
  7. Thanks, that's good to know. I really like wooden steering wheels, but air suspension scares me. It would be really good if folks could report on their experiences. MB folks run like the *wind from air suspension; I know of many tales of woe and serious wallet surgery. *see what I did there 🙂
  8. Thanks Alan, I don't really want to be spending quite that much. Does it have air suspension? That would be an separate deal breaker. That said it's a good looking car, I'm guessing in eighteen months it'll be priced nearer what to I want to spend, but not sure I want to wait that long 🙂.
  9. Thanks. I'm not too bothered about the fancy audio stuff, you should see what an 18 year old GS basic sound system, apart from sounding good, not a lot! Comfort, access and reliability are my main concerns. I've been assuming hat hybrid tech is the way to go, but it occurs to me that only using this type of vehicle car once a week may not be a good way to use it; or not? Answers on a postcard please 🙂
  10. Thanks. Agree about the air suspension, so that rules out the Premier. Advantage is beginning to look good as many seem to have the panny roof and it solves the wheel size problem. Pity about no wooden steering wheel though. I have a thing about them. I wish I could take the one off my ancient GS or the MoMo off my even more ancient G-Wagon !!!!
  11. Thanks. You do in a 3 months what we do in a year! I think I'd probably prefer a panoramic roof to a sunroof. My experience of sunroofs is that they always, eventually, leak. I had a (detachable) panny roof on my SL60 which I loved. I wonder a) if 18" wheels are a possibility and b) if they would increase comfort. I can't seem to find anything on wheel options, but that might be because there ain't any 🙂 How do you find the ML sounds? I've only ever had the basic systems in my GS's (and the Rx300 which I forgot about!) and thought they were very good.
  12. Hello folks, ex GS300, current Gs430 and rabidly ex (other than an elderly G-wagon) MB sort looking to buy a 2013 2014 or 2015 Rx450h in the not too distant future and hoping for some advice/pointers/information. So, where should I start, Premier? Advance? Luxury? From what I've read, Sport is not for me as it would finish off what's left of my back. What I would like is a wooden steering wheel (sad I know), cooled and massaging seat, and I would prefer 18 or 19 inch wheels. For the life of me I can't really work out what's what in all the iterations. Indeed I can't find the seats anywhere and their seems no logic with the steering wheels so I'm guessing they're build options. So, any advice as to model choice etc would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
  13. I had an Rx300, whilst I liked it very much, at the same time I had a 1998 SL60AMG which seemed to make everything else slow. So I sold the Rx. Next car will probably be another Rx, but a 450h this time. Wouldn’t go near a Merc these days even though I used to be a real fan boy. Mercedes are no longer in the business of making quality cars, they just make money.
  14. I would say go for it. We have a 2001 GS430 which I bought after buying a ('98 iirc) 300 as a runaround whilst my G wagon was being fettled. I liked the 300 so much I thought I'd try the V8 version. A good few years later we still have it, a cracking car.
  15. As above. This is the thing I might replace or get repainted, not sure which, or if at all. Answers on a postcard.......Many thanks.
