  1. Hey there Great conversion. I have a 1JZGTE VVTi with Getrag V160 fitted into my IS200. I see that you have found most of the small changes that you need to make - almost the same as mine. (For the tailshaft I use Landcruiser front shafts - everything in my car is Toyota sourced) Things like the sump mod, greabox linkage shortening etc etc. - there is a never ending list of minor items that consume the time. Other items yet to be mentioned include air-conditioning connection, power steering connections as well as the best part - making 2 ECU's talk intelligently to each other. I have an Autronic SM2 fitted together with the IS200 ECU in the same case sharing signals. Took some working out. Wait till you have to get the climate control to work - can help you with those sorts of issues. Keep up the great work. Cheers Graham D
  2. Try Ray Hall's website in Australia. He has the 2JZGTE in an IS200. There are problems fitting the back turbo around the clutch master cylinder. You will notice his latest version of his motor has been upgraded to a single turbo. I have the single turbo 1JZGTE VVTi in my IS200 and there was no problems with clearance anywhere. 3. Usually the manuals have aftermarket cruise. Don't know why the factory doesn't offer as an option. If I could post some photos I would show you mine. Works very well and looks good. Graham
  4. Shane You'll have to stir up the mechanic a bit. It is always a problem when depending on others. It would be a nice short run to come up to Toowoomba for you. It would be well run-in by the time you get here. Graham
  5. Yes, the 1JZ is slightly easier to fit as it is not as tall as the 2JZ. Also the VVTi version is single turbo so there were no clearance problems around the clutch cylinder area. Look at Ray Halls website and he shows the problems with the twin turbo clearances. I mounted the engine as low as possible so if there are any problems it can always have a new block fitted using a 2JZ bottom end. Perhaps mine will be the 1st 1.5JZ IS200 one day.
  6. Update Time Have finished cutting all the intercooler piping - just waiting for mate to weld all the pieces together. Should get that done this week. Also did the air intake piping to match as well. All silicone connections ordered - will be here next week. Managed to get both sides in one piece each side. A bit difficult to fit but once in place shouldn't have any problems with joints coming loose. Intercooler piping to be HPC coated next. Made aluminium heat shield for power steering hyrdaulic lines where they pass the turbo to reduce any heat problems. Finished off interior console around Getrag shifter - looks almost standard. Problem with lift-up lock out for reverse meant change to the boot - had to modify and re-sew the leather boot to fit the new changer. Currently using IS200 gear knob on top of shifter. Ran several wires into cabin ready for a few extras - boost controller switch, traction control wiring, and a few spares for any future projects. All wires hidden -can't be seen from anywhere. Remounted the power steering hydraulic piping as wasn't happy with it before. Purchase new number plates "TOY 250" in matching colour. New plates to reflect that this is my toy and the engine size is 2500. Looks good as it is an exact colour match. Need more time to work on the car instead of other domestic chores and projects. Graham
  7. I definately won't be bringing it over to your end of the world. You will have to be satisfied with photos. You are welcome to visit here anytime - you know what they say about Queensland. "Sunny and fine one day - perfect the next" We are famous for our good weather up here. That is why the IS200 is fitted with the moonroof - you use it up here.
  8. Would love a job doing this all the time but I supposed it would be like all jobs - good for a few years then you look for a change. Yes, have a very busy two weeks. Will have to go back to work for a while to build up the bank balance again - it took a fair hammering the last two weeks. This hobby is expensive to continue with. Wife calls the garage the Toy Shop - its full of expensive toys. Graham
  9. Update time - just spent two weeks holiday working on the car. Removed engine again to finish mounting and wiring everything in the engine bay and run cables into the interior as well. Mounted idle speed control valve and boost control valves with integrated wiring. Fitted all new sensors to engine including additional Autronic sensors and incorporated all wiring into original factory loom. Engine fitted with dual sensors to run VVTi function from Lexus computer and everything else from Autronic computer. I don't want to risk any interference between the two systems. Fitted heater water transfer pipes to swap sides for the heater connections. Had custom tailshaft made to suit the Getrag. This was made using all Land Cruiser parts to keep with the Toyota origin. Shortened the gear change mechanism to make it fit exactly in centre of console hole. Stripped all auto wiring from harness and wired gearbox speed sensor and reverse switch incorporated into existing wiring harness. Had Custom Intercooler manufactured to fit the limited space. Ended up with Bar & Plate intercooler made by ARE in Brisbane. They did an excellent job and came complete with flow testing results of unit. Fitted intercooler into place with necessary support brackets. Intercooler also supports bonnet catch at the top. Had to remount air-conditioning core higher to give me clearance over the intercooler outlet pipes. Made combined cable harness for Autronic and Lexus computers all fitted into standard computer case. Wired up 18 core cable from CDI to engine. Purchased second reluctor interface to wire up traction control to Autronic as well. Motor & gearbox now fitted back into car for final time. Items left to complete: Wire computer harness to 1JZ harness Wire traction control Plumb intercooler piping Sort out VVTi functions (that is why engine has dual sensors fitted) Exhaust system
  10. Yes, look at the thread on Page2 "IS200 with 1JZGTE VVTi" - there are links to photos there. I've forgotten how to link to photos. Graham
  11. Actually the 1JZGTE VVTi is a single turbo version but the rest of your statement is right. The Getrag box looks like it came out of a Mack truck - it's huge. Graham
  12. Hi, I,m from Toowoomba (135km from Brisbane). I cheated and fitted a 1JZGTE VVTi with Getrag 6 speed to cure the low performance. Come for a drive to Toowoomba and see how its done. Graham
  13. At the moment just the standard A02B Torsen limited slip diff. In Australia the 6 speed manual versions come with the better diff. If I have problems then I will have to look for something better.
  14. No, the Soarer mounts were too far forward to fit the fans behind the radiator. I ended up moving the engine back 25mm and down 10mm from the Soarer mounts.
  15. Expected output in standard form is approx 230kW if I can get the VVTi functioning. Still chasing some of the technical data on the electronic side of that. There is a Toyota training manual in the US that has specific data but it is not available in Australia. Have sent emails to a few contacts in US but no replies yet. Like my last 1JZ project I have kept lots of diagrams, sketches and drawings as I go. Graham
  16. Progress Update Wasn't totally happy with the previous motor position so I moved motor again to the ultimate position - back as far as posible with about 15mm clearance at the back and 12mm over the sub-frame. This gives me the most clearance possible at the front so I can now fit all the standard IS200 fans. Looks much better with the engine right back. Should also be better weight transfer. Had to cut some of the sump to clear so have lost some oil capacity. Will just have to fill it slightly deeper to compensate. Of course now I had to make another shorter shifter arrangement for the gearbox but overall fits into position much better. This has allowed me to lift the gearbox higher at the rear as the shifter now fits up into the high part of the tunnel. As this is the final position now I can order custom tailshaft to suit this location. Have made a new aluminium computer case (complete with lots of heat sinks) to mount both the Autronic and the IS200 computers together and fit into the standard mounting box. Have compiled a spreadsheet file that contains all wires for the 1JZGTE, Lexus computer, Autronic computer and CDI unit. It takes hours to trace all the wiring. List takes up 18 pages of A4 size printout. Now I just have to match them all up!!!!! Each wire has to connect to something so will end up with about 9 pages of matched pairs of wiring. Still chasing some of the VVTi technical information to make sure that part still functions. Have decided to control the traction control by Autronic computer so have ordered a few more parts from Autronic to allow me to do this. Ran heavy power cable from alternator to battery as alternator now on the wrong side of the car. Mounted CDI unit under mudguard under the headlight - in a cool dry place away from the engine heat. Designed and ordered custom intercooler to fit exact space available and waiting for that to arrive. Re-plumbed power steering and heater hoses for new engine location. Just a lot of small items that all take time to do. I just keep telling myself that it will all be worth it. Graham
  17. I found the font used in the Lexus Owners Club - it is Ethnocentric. I still need to IS200 badge font though. Will have to keep on searching. Graham
  18. Thanks for that. I already had the Alexis font - it is close enough for the Lexus name but not the right font for the IS200 part. Look at the Lexus Owners Club at the top of the page. The Owners Club is a different font. What is it - the S is similar to the IS200 font? Anyone have any suggestions for that area? Graham
  19. Does anyone know where I can download the fonts used on the Lexus badges. The LEXUS badge uses the Lexus font but the IS200 badge is different font. Look at the S - it is different on the two badges. Can anyone tell me the names of the fonts for the two badges. You ask why - well I have fitted a 1JZGTE into my IS200 and want to make up a badge that says IS250T for the boot. Thanks for anyones help Graham
  20. Originally I thought it was just taking a long time but not, mine reports an error on the main gallery page. That's when I thought I would add the publishing to my XP as it tells you in the photo adding page. That works fine but won't let me log in to the Lexus Gallery. Graham
  21. Update on progress Have made new steel engine mounts to lower the engine 20mm and move back by 20mm. Now the gearbox mount lines up to the original mounting bracket holes. If I made a 2nd set of mounts I would move another 10mm back and 10mm lower again. At the moment I have 20mm clearance over the power steering. I will have to put a small dent in the sump for clearance at the front side of the sub-frame. Have made short shifter kit to move gearlever forward by 30mm to suit new location. Engine and box now back in the car and bolted up. Gearbox required some panel beating in the tunnel on the RH side of the box. This was easy - the Lexus seems to be made from tin foil. Gearbox now fits right up with the standard mount and no packers. Have more photos but can't publish them. Have left message on forum asking for help as to why I can't publish at all. Then can send in more photos. Graham
  22. I have consistently had problems with posting photos to the gallery. When using the online script nothing happens. I have now added the Windows XP publishing - that part works up to the point where you have to enter your login name and password. It won't accept mine. Is there a special password to add photos to the gallery. Thanks for anyone's help Graham
  23. Colin Bought from local Lexus Dealer. They had to order it from Japan. Cost AUD$136 and is over 600 pages. Covers LHD & RHD versions. Any details needed from it let me know. Graham
  24. Received my Lexus wiring manual (EWD368F) today. Now I can start to plan the wiring. Graham
