Well after putting up 50,000 mls up in the last year the gearbox gave up without any warning. The thing that annoyed me was the time it took to get it repaired in a Lexus garage. 6/8 weeks. Wasnt covered by warranty because i use it as a Taxi around Dublin City. They wanted €7,000 to €5,000 to repair it but after threatening them with legal action it was reduced to €1,500 and that covered them doing the timing belt as well. After a few days getting it back the carrier bearing went behind the gearbox on the driveshaft. Car off road again and waiting on the bearing for 3 months now. Lexus has crap service here in Ireland with parts. Would have been better buying a Jap import. Any one with same problems with gearbox. Would definitely not reccomend off roading with this car.

Hi Just serviced my rx 300 series1, last week @35,000mls. Didnt cost me too much, 5/30 Oil 4.5lt cost €20, Oil filter Lexus €10, Air filter Lexus €18, everything else was ok on car except front pads which need to be renew shortly. Oil filter was a b*****d but got it eventually. Should try doing it yourself. Although timing belt has to be done @ 60,000 mls which I will leave in to Lexus at a cost of €350.

Hi All Would I be able to get the sat navigation connected in my RX 300 series 1 2001 . When I press the button on the dash board the screen reads external system not connected. What do I have to do to get it connected ????. Thanks. John

Hi What type of cd changer are you installing. PS have a problem a while now with right side speaker, do you know what I could do to fix it, no sound from it or tweeter on right side. Thanks.

I could live with that too. Currently getting 20 mpg around city with rx300.

Anyone know where the amp is in the RX 300. Took glove box apart and cant seem to locate it.??????????

When you respray an area (ie door panel) with metallic paint and Lacquer. Generally the whole side of the car has to be done. As the paint fades over time you will never get exact matches on dark coloured paints. It really depends on how old the paint/car is. Sometimes you will get away with it,but generally the whole side has to be done or it will stick out. Manufacturers of paints have codes for the paint as on your car and this is matched up with the database of paint mixtures. Ps its a good idea to bring a sample of paint with you. ie..petrol lid is generally used and maybe they will add more to lighten/darken the paint for you. TIP Only go to a reptuable paint dealer and dont use the cheapest. I have been doing this for 22 years here in Ireland and always happy with the outcome. Hope this helps.

Hi All Could anyone tell me how to remove the console area around radio so I can get near connections at back of radio. Also is it possible to upgrade CD changer unit to play MP3s. John

Still couldnt remove the door panel, there seems to be something holding the door handle. I Got the wire going to the speaker and wired it up to another speaker that works and it doesnt seem to be the speaker thats faulty. The mus be a connection from the radio. How on earth do you get into the back of the radio. What panels do you remove to get anywhere near it. Afraid of damage to the wood surround if I do it the wrong way. Any Ideas???????????

Hi Could anyone tell me how to remove drivers side front door Panel. Got as far as getting the screws under panel and side plastic rivets out and also screw out at door opening handel. Panel wont come apart because of electric window switches,dont want to force it. Need to get to speaker in door as it wont work and tweeter on window sill not working either all speakers work fine in car. tried volume & position levels on screen but still wont work. Thanks

Hi All Just joined your club Last week, having bought a Lexus RX 300 2001 in Ireland to use as a taxi with just 22,000 mls on the clock. Can any one tell me 1st what series is it, 1 or 2. And 2nd Where Can I get a repair manual for it in England. I can get one in USA but find it very pricey at $95. Hyanes dont do one . Thanks.
