  1. I believe that you would need to get it to Lexus and have them change you Lexus Personalised Settings via Techstream: http://www.lexus.com/pdf/service/IS_LPS.pdf
  2. I have Dunlop RT Sport Maxx on the front and Dunlop SP Sport 01 on the back. It is a very nice, quiet setup with good ratings all round for wear, weather and noise levels. Averaged about £105 per corner including fitting and nitrogen fill. I can't comment fully on wear just yet but the SP Sport on the back have been on there for 9 months and have more than plenty of tread left. I do the best part of 20K a year.
  3. Before I start, I am in no way affiliated with the company other than being a customer..... Car Surgeon details: Imran - 07853 355 415 Booking by appointment only - located in Digbeth, Birmingham B5. Car Details: 2009 Lexus IS220d Facelift 60K (bought on 35K) Ventura tuning box K&N Panel filter Always run on branded diesel and only ever used 1 full bottle of Millers Diesel Power Ecomax in 25K miles Car Symptoms: P2002 DPF error code Engine light and VSC light Limp home mode Car would take forever through each gear to get any movement to the point that it is not safe to drive and try manual DPF regeneration Type of driving I do: Average of 1500 miles a month Journey lengths on a long run vary between 100 - 250 miles Short journeys to the office no more than 2 miles and shopping trips are half that. What happened: Half way through a 120mile run on a Saturday night, with cruise control on sitting at 75, the car suddenly felt as if it hit a wall. Cruise control turned itself off, warning lights came on and the car started to lose power. You could press the accelerator but car was hesitant but would pick up although a little slower than normal. After a short period, the car lost all power and pressing your foot to the floor did nothing. I had to pull over and restart the car, however, the warning lights were still on. Limp home mode was still engaged but the car would let me drive in a relatively normal manner for 5 minutes, at which point it would lose all power and another restart was required. Using the stop start method was how I got the car home. I spent most of Sunday early afternoon trying numerous manual DPF regen tests to no effect. This included multiple attempts of sitting on the drive for a long period of time holding the accelerator at 3k revs and driving the car in limp home mode using high revs. Nothing worked. At around 5pm, I called Lexus Roadside Assistance who sent the AA round. The ADD discovered the P2002 fault code and suggested not to drive the car unless it was to a garage. As the Lexus Roadside Assistance includes a courtesy car, they arranged this for me on the spot with Enterprise and I was able to pick up a brand new Mercedes Benz E250 with 3K ish on the clock. On Monday, I limped the car to Lexus next day who charged £75 for them to do their own checks. A day later, they said I needed to the following work doing: new EGR vavle, inlet manifold cleanse, dpf cleanse and 4 hours labour totally £900 with no option of discount or good will gesture. What Car Surgeon did: Knowing of Car Surgeon through this forum, I gave Imran a call on the Tuesday. He is very knowledgeable, friendly and to the point. He arranged for my car to be picked up on a low loader from Lexus Erdington and taken to his workshop within an hour or so of speaking to him; where he started work on it right away. The work he did included a dry cleanse of the EGR valve, DPF rejuvenation and cleared all error codes. This came to £339 including recovery. Once the car was done, he did a 42.6 mile test drive in the evening including some form of live data testing. The car was ready to pick up the following day (I do believe he does offer a same day service if you need it). Typically, the EGR valve is covered in dry soot and at work, can be caked on in hard crusty layers. Mine happened to be pure sludge, almost lava like. Due to how the tuning box works, I have since removed it to see the effect on the car but may put this back on at a later date. How the car feels now: Based on doing approximately 350miles since getting the car back, the car has been a joy to drive. It is very smooth and feels like it breathes better with no hesitation through the rev range. The car also pulls from around 1500rpm in all gears including 6th; which, like most, was previously un-useable until getting to approx 80 and above. General pick up is much better and the car sounds and feels better. Driving around town, I can now use 4th gear doing 30 if I chose to where previously I would sit in 3rd until 40mph. Summary: Overall, I am amazingly grateful to Imran for all of his help. He offers a first class, honest and trusting service which is rare to find. He is knowledgeable about the IS220d, cars in general and would therefore definitely use his services again.
  4. Lol I am...... Sorry I meant they aren't best mates, no idea why the typo. It's horrible getting off the lights!! The ventura box does bring the Rev range lower a bit with boost being relatively consistent across the range. I am not sure how you drive, but dropping it a gear in mine when wanting to over take puts a massive smile on my face.
  5. Lexus IS220d and getting off the lights are best mates - once you get going, providing your in the right gear, it still surprises me at times but I also have the Ventura box.
  6. Actually, second word of warning..... If, like me, you have you torque, boost, HP gauges (basically anything which makes the gauge move all the time) on display, you will find yourself constantly trying to reach 'higher numbers' and inadvertently driving like an idiot on the road.
  7. @Immortalteh The reader I bought was this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner-Engine-READER/dp/B004KL0I9I/ref=sr_1_1?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1373983795&sr=8-1&keywords=elm+327 It works perfectly with the car and has no lag at all only a few seconds delay in pairing but you get this anyway with bluetooth. To install, just plug the device into the ODB2 connector in the drivers footwell. It sits somewhat in line with the brake pedal under the dash. You will notice a large rubber cap on it, pull this away and then plug it in. One word of warning, the device looks small but is about the size of a 20 pack of fags. Dependant on your seating position, you may kick it when breaking or when moving your feet. With the device, I was still able to have my phone, BT audio and ODB2 reader all connected and functioning at the same time.
  8. This link from the CL forum may help: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-second-generation/695451-flyaudio-china-unit-install-w-picture.html In the CL forum is also a full thread detailing any issues and fixes for it.
  9. No one? Well I've bit the bullet and spent the grand sum of £5.60 for a bluetooth ODB2 reader and another £2.50 or something on the app. The bluetooth device is arriving from HK so once it comes, I'll feed back to anyone who is interested. If not, I will just update this thread anyway so that I I can waste a few more minutes at work :-)
  10. Hi, Was wondering if anyone had any experience of using the Torque Pro Android app with the ELM 327 OBD2 Bluetooth receiver? I am looking to use one on my IS220D. Not for any real purposes, just as a novelty. Thanks. Tom
  11. I purchased one and it makes the induction note a little deeper and I heard more "sucking" from the turbo - I actually enjoy it with the Ventura box! Not really a noticeable difference though but seems to breathe a little better and less asthmatic.
  12. Hi, This should be a straight forwards one and it is me being difficult.....but how do I do this? specifically the plastic part that the plate sits on that then connects to the bumper. Reason I ask is because I have a metal pressed plate on the front of my car and taking it off to inspect the plastic surround would mean bending/creasing it and I dont want to do so. Is the plastic surround screwed on? would I need to fill any holes if I relocated the plate? Thanks in advance, Tom
  13. Im a fan of compare the market and I got a really good deal. Im 27, live in north london, 7 years NCD, fully comp for Work and pleasure etc and costs me £415 a year for a 2009 Is220d :-)
  14. I have a Ventura Tuning box with K&N panel filter. This has improved the car no end and pulls from much lower down and keeps going. Much more torquier and more driveable on a daily basis. I still only really use 3 gears around town but your not waiting for the turbo to kick in anywhere near as much anymore. Not much change in MPG though. The car doesnt like traffic or city driving..
  15. Hi, I have read about how oiled panel filters may effect the MAF sensor and so managed to find a Cosworth paper based non oiled filter which would eliminate any issues related to an over oiled filter. After further deliberation, I still went with the KN oiled panel filter due to the brand and the fact that I know people with turbo engines running them without a problem, however, I am still a little concerned as I recently purchased a Ventura Tuning Box and could do without any future problems. Is anyone else running a similar setup? i.e. tuning box and oiled panel filter? what about just a K&N? Any known problems or links to experiences? I know all the hearsay and "what if" and "what could happen..." but any real world advice and help from people using either product on a daily basis is appreciated. Thanks, Tom
