Hi Kuljit. You've said your car basically runs rough. How long have you had the car? Do you know the cars service history?

Your car has 108k miles therefore I'm assuming the MAF sensor and the throttle body have never been touched. Possible the air filter has never been replaced. Probably the spark plugs have never been replaced.

I'd investigate these points before anything else.

Browse the forum for similar issues and I'm sure you'll find answers to some of the points I've raised.

I have had car since 2013 have had all services done annually. Will look At MAF sensor and throttle body.  All filters were changed at service in May. Will keep you informed.

You not aware then that this is possibly the Most troublesome and most difficult to diagnose/fix  Lexus yet? Even dealers fail to get this car running as it should, no matter how much money/parts you throw at it!

To be honest until now not had any issues

  3. Hi can anyone in West Midlands (nearer to Wolverhampton) recommend and independent Lexus specialist. Had my tension belt snap and pulley fall apart. Anyway this has been replaced by my garage and was told by them that the car engine does not sound right and may be time to get rid of it.  It has only done 108k miles. As a Lexus car I would like to think the 2007 model Lexus is220d se-l would be reliable to hit past the 200k miles. Recently while travelling on motorway I have noticed the car sound rough while allowing car to reduce speed to 60 mph. I would like to see if there is an independent specialist who can shed some light on what may be the cause and indicational costs so I can decide what to do

    Thank you

I completely agree and also I've always thought that the best job is done by the specialist in the subject, i.e. mechanic for mechanical work, aircon specialist for aircon work, auto electrician for auto electrical work and so on.

The second contact above are not answering but found a guy in Stafford had a good chat charges half what lexus charging just need to get car to him somehow

If you're not very good with technical stuff this may be too much for you but it's the best video I've seen on how to tackle this problem:

EDIT - Just looking in your area and one or two companies come up:

    D & R Starters
Unit 3 Astra Industrial Estate, Cable St, Wolverhampton WV2 2RJ
    01902 871600
They score 5/5 stars from 65 Google Reviews

Another one is http://www.vehicleelectricalservices.co.uk/services.html They also score 5/5 but only one review.

    Hi Herbie

    Thanks for your research

The first 1 i spoke to they don't do electrical diagnosis although the name would  suggest otherwise

The 2nd i did not come across  so will look further into  them

Lexus charging 150 an hour which cannot justify for such an old car

    Thanks again

Could be the alternator, have you tested to see what the alternator is putting into the battery.

    Hi

Thanks for your prompt response. I believe the AA did a test to rule the alternator out. I'm not no clued up on technical stuff so was looking for an reliable auto electrician to diagnose issue once and for all. Reading many posts online with Battery drain issues on lexus is220d

  7. Hi All

    Hoping for advice.

I have Lexus Is220d 2007 model. Recently something is draining my Battery but i have no idea what it is. Local garage checked drain, confirmed a significant drain on Battery. Suggested i find auto electrician. After numerous online searches not able to find auto electrician in local area. Any ideas what may cause a drain or even a good auto electrician in Wolverhampton area.

    Thanks for any advice

I have all season types on nearly all my cars, my newest addition the IS250 is a pain with its 2 different sizes!

I've put a pair of Hankook Kinergy 4S2 on the Front & I have currently a set of Bridgestone ER300 on the back which will be replaced with a mid range all season option later next year.

The lack of choice in245/45/17 size is a headache esp in all season offerings but things may change by then

Definitely, a pain. Would prefer to match all 4. But non the less at least it shows budget range winters just as good as just checked i have triangle winters on rear. Which will change when tread has gone

  9. So finally the snow came today. So i had opportunity to  test my michelin cross climates. And i am very pleased, noproblems in snow what so ever. Drove down small roads where snow was untouched upto 2to 3 inches of snow.

Didn't want to come back home.

Cross climates on front and Budget snow tyres on rear. Will replace rear with vector 4 seasons when they need replacing as michelin don't do rears in my rear size.

I have all season tyres on all my cars & I suspect they don't last as long as summer tyres. However I don't care as I reckon they're of benefit not just in snow but whenever the temperature is less than 5C & especially on frosty nights with ice patches on the roads.

This is my point exactly. Having a rear wheel drive Lexus it is not very safe on icy or snowy roads, in my first year of owning really came stuck in the snow. So after that i used to swap to winters and then summers. But recently fed up taking seasonal tyres to local garage as well as storing them. Now with all season tyres. Will see how they fare with the forthcoming winter.

I fitted CrossClimates to our 4wd Suzuki SX4 and was most impressed with their performance.  So I decided they were ideal for the Lexus IS250 as well.  Unfortunately my Lexus requires two different tyre sizes, of which Michelin only make one.

Fortunately, Goodyear had recently launched their Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 which performed on a par with the CrossClimates, and better in some aspects, in both sizes.  I fitted them and it has proved to be an excellent choice.

Can’t really compare the two vehicles, but the Goodyears are far superior to the standard rubber that came with the car, not only in dry and wet weather grip, but also in the level of road noise they generate.

    I would certainly recommend them.

Incidentally, I would never have a mix of tyre brands or types.  Having wheels that could be affected by variations in compound mix and tread patterns is surely just asking for trouble.

Thanks for your reply. I have gone with Michelin cross climates on front. My rear are virtually new budget all season but will change those when needed as can't really afford to change rears too. Goodyear do not do rear size 245 45 17 in vector 4 seasons otherwise would have had those on my front now instead of Michelin.

I think that Mark is right. There seems little difference between each of the "high end" All Seasons and between each of the "medium end" All Season, tyres.

I have yet to read a published readers criticism of any All Season tyre which an owner has purchased.

As he alludes"when your tyres need replacing, replace them soonest."

    Hi Roy

    Thanks for your reply.

My winter tyres were budget tyres Triangle i think and even as a budget tyre they were excellent in snow.

I am decided now definitely going with Michelin

After seeing others rave about how the Michelins transformed their car in comparison to the Goodyear 4seasons (which I currently have) I was tempted to try them, but i'm still a little skeptical that perhaps the main difference is new tyres vs worn out tyres rather than the difference between the brands.

I will most likely go michelin as goodyear don't do rears on mine in Vector4 seasons

I would suggest same all around.

My Cross Climates have felt safe, comfy and quiet.

    Their reviews are positive too.

Just wish it would snow this year!

    What model do you have?

The first year of owning my 220d i got stuck in snow. After which i put winters on in winter. They served me well never got stuck. But hassle of storing and changing too much now. So looking for all seasons just wanted reassurance that all seasons can handle the snow.

But yes i am most likely going with michelin cross climate.

    I like Michelin tyres...

    Also ...

    etc.

    Hi PCM

    Thanks for your reply.

I was looking at going with Goodyear Vector4 all seasons but they only do them in 225 45 17 for front but not 245 45 17 at the rear.

I have considered the Goodyear Vector 4 seasons on front and Michelin cross climate on rear. But not 100% sure as i prefer same brand all round.

In which case i may go with the michelin cross climate all round.

Just wanted to get some opinions before i decide.

    Thanks again
