  1. These have been on eBay for a while - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261944838789?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  2. If I remember correctly, it is not possible to disable the TPMS without disabling other - more crucial - safety features. Whilst it is easy to be checking the tyres each week, those lights are annoying!
  3. I was having trouble figuring this out and getting my iPhone to work as an audio player until I tried GJP527's 14 point method above and it worked first time. Thanks for that.
  4. I am guessing that there may well be a GS300 nearer to you than a GS450. You could take a look at that boot and bear in mind that the deeper recess for the middle third or so of the boot will be missing. This ought to give you a fair idea of the size.
  5. To compare the MPG of a GS to a Prius is perhaps a little unfair as they are two very different vehicles, not least in size. If a Prius sized vehicle would fit your needs then perhaps the Lexus IS or CT deserve a look, not least as they will return better MPG than a GS.
  6. John said, above, "it does not really matter if the cruise is set to 60 or 75, the mpg comes out the same." I have found the same. On a regular trip from Gloucester to Kent in my '06 GS300, I would get 36mph cruising at 70mph and almost 40mph cruising at 60mph. I now find on the same journey that I get 40mpg whether I set the cruise to 60 or 70 mph in the GS450H.
  7. I had an '06 GS300 for two years, which I recently sold at 110k miles, without any sign of these problems. Nor have I seen what would be a major problem discussed on this forum in that time. Maybe someone with longer ownership could elaborate. Mike
  8. I considered getting some cheap mats for the winter and have been watching these on eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330875745830?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT For the price they seemed pretty reasonable but now that winter has almost gone I probably will not invest just yet. Having said that, we have one of those domestic carpet cleaners and took our beige mats out last week for a clean. I have to say that they came up beautifully with the only mark remaining being one on the drivers mat where a little of the material has worn away.
  9. Carl If you are referring to my car then you are right that it doesn't have a sunroof or ACC / PCS. These are an additional option for the SE-L - and rare to find. For some reason that I have never understood, you can only have the ACC / PCS if you also have the sunroof. Does anyone know why that is? I can't remember about the door scuff trims being illumunitated. Mike
  10. Robert I tend to let my wife deal with the insurance as her has more time and patience when it comes to trawling through the comparison and insurance company sites. From what I remember, it went up from around £300 to slightly over £400, largely because the new car was valued a lot higher then the old one. We actually ended up doing it through Lexus. Mike
  11. Robert I am very pleased with it. I went from a 2006 GS300 to a 2011 GS450H. Internally it very much the same so all the controls are exactly where you remember them to be. Mine is the SE-L so it has the two keys and the credit card one. Actually it is about twice the thickness of a credit card but doesn't have any of the buttons. With the card permanently in my wallet I leave the ordinary key at home. It also has the DAB radio which may not be a big thing for some people but as the radio station that we like is only available on DAB it is handy and helped me "sell" the car to my wife. If the cooled seats that came on the GS300 are something you liked then you need to be aware that by 2010 they were only available on the SE-L. The only problems that I had were that the Key card battery was dead when I bought it (the dealer replaced it happily) and the electric motor wasn't kicking in as soon or early as I would have expected. This was because the car had not been moved much for six months and the hybrid battery was pretty low. Once it had had a few good runs and was charged up it was fine. There are no daylight running lights. Externally the car is very similar to what you are familiar with. Oh, any excuse - here's a picture of my car, taken when it was on sale at Lexus Nottingham. I love it.
  12. Robert Four months ago I changed my GS300 (17 inch wheels) for a GS450h (18 inch wheels). I have not noticed any increase in noise. All the better to hear that engine roar, once in a while! Mike
  13. I happily stand corrected, though with respect to "body kit" I cannot see anything on this one that is different to every other GS450H. Could someone elaborate for me.
  14. Rob, I would agree with warrenties being an insurance policy and someone somewhere making money from that. The trouble with me buying cars is that I always worry why the last person sold it, so the warrenty does give me piece of mind. Having said that, you mention that it won't be financed which - if you are looking to buy from a Lexus dealer - could give you some leverage when it comes to bargaining over price. They are always more likely to throw in something that isn't costing them as much as they are knocking off the price. And don't forget that many GS450's sit for quite a while before selling, so dealers are always open to offers.I bought mine recently after it had sat at a Lexus dealer for six months. Not only did the price come down over that time but after we had finished negotiating the two years extended warranty was thrown in.
  15. Firstly, the specs - as far as I know there is not a "Sport" version in that age range, it is something that came in with the 2012 version. As Zotto said, "Sport" is one of the suspension settings, should you wish to select it. In short, the SE-L is a higher spec than the SE, mainly due to upgraded suspension and gearbox etc. It also tends to have the Mark Levinson stereo. The only visual difference is that the SE-L has a small boot spoiler. There were facelifts in 2008 and 2010. In 2008 one set of indicator light moved from the wing to the wing mirrors and in 2010 the grill goes from vertical vanes to horizontal ones. There are other subtle differences such as the Sat Nav going onto a HDD in 2010 but nothing else major. A search online for old Lexus brochures will show full specifications. In terms of dealers listings, I tend to find that they just hit a standard spec when listing it, often missing out on other options that can be seen in the photos - such as the radar cruise. This is usually referred to as ACC or Adaptive Cruise Control and means that it you are cruising at say 70mph and someone pulls out in front of you at a slower speed then the car will slow to that speed and keep a set distance until they move out of the way or you overtake them. Whilst it will slow the car it will not bring it to a complete halt - it is still up to the driver to avoid accidents. Those that have it swear by it and I was looking for a car that had it, but as you say it is very rare. For some reason that I have never figured out it is only available on cars that have a sun roof. The main thing to budget for is the extended warrenty at around £1,000 per year, largely for piece of mind, especially as repair bills can be big. And it includes repairs to the hybrid battery should anything go wrong.
  16. My understanding of these is that a quick push up or down of the lever will make a 1mph difference, whilst holding it up or down for several seconds will produce a 5mph change. I was not aware that these values could be changed. Perhaps I am wrong and someone can correct me.
  17. I would guess that the cost would easily run into the £100's. If the new owners are not bothered with it and it has been there for a year then it is probably untaxed and worth getting the authorities to take a look and then take it away.
  18. I have had the warning lights come on with this Lexus and my previous one. in both cases they have lost around 6psi when checked. I don't know at what pressure they would be regarded as unsafe, but I agree that I would like to see them on sooner.
  19. Regarding the warranty, I had a feeling that it is only for cars up to ten years old - which is one end of the age range you are looking for - so I have just taken a look. It is indeed ten years or 140,000 miles. Now, whether that is ten years when the warranty is taken out or ten years when it finishes, I do not know.
  20. When I enquired at my local delaer (Listers Cheltenham), for my previous car, they were quoting a similar amount. They seemed to only do it on one day of the week and told me that the refurb would be completed during that one day. So, if you can do without the car for a day this could be feasible. Who knows, if no-one is using the cortesy car they may let you borrow it.
  21. I believe I am right in saying that destination setting, using a full UK postcode, only became an option once we had models fitted with HD SatNav units, ie the 2010 GS facelift.
  22. I was on the point of starting a similar topic. I purchased my GS450h a week ago. On the test drive I immediately noticed that the engine started when starting the car. The sales lady said that because the car had not been driven much in the five months that they had had it, the hybrid batteries were a bit low and it would take some time for them to get enough charge to start the car with. They are slowly getting better but I guess that there is a chance that they will never get to the point where they start the car every time.
  23. Thanks to all who responded to this thread as I have just had the same problem. I was getting worried as I am selling the car at the weekend and thought there might be a serious problem with it. The only explanation is that Colin the cat somehow sat on the button when he slept on the trousers with the keys in!!
  24. One is http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/used-GS/GS-450h/3.5-SE/Derby/1833776-605293285-1913663.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_ whilst the other is http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/used-GS/GS-450h/3.5-SE-L/Nottingham/1833777-605025965-1609632.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_ As they are only about 20 miles apart I may take a look at both of them on the same day.
  25. I am looking at replacing my '06 GS300 with a GS450h and have a budget of around £15k plus the value of my car. I am looking to buy from a Lexus dealer, largely for piece of mind. Looking at vehicles online, they seem to be giving the option of "Negotiate On This Car", so they are clearly open to offers. But what is reasonable to be asking for? I would be be looking to add the 2 years extended warranty, so would it be insulting to expect them to throw that in for free, or half price? Or should I be asking for a discount or better deal on my p/x GS300? Incidentally, what warranty comes with a used Lexus, before the extended warranty begins? Regards
