  1. After watching a recent airing of Fifth Gear (I think it was) involving some crash test of a new Renault Espace vs. an old Renault Espace, my wife has asked me to change my '96 GS 300 for something newer... So, before I go and buy a Renault Megane (5 star NCAP), can someone give any info as to the crash safety of a GS MkI. I know they haven't been NCAP tested, but has any crash testing ever been performed on these or has anyone reliable results of any kind, it would be appreciated.
  2. This fact alone makes them an expensive buy IMHO, although they may seem cheap to buy. Of course, I don't know how you drive, but still... B) Personally, I would never put a single Hankook tyre on my car, but that may just be me in a nutshell (is that what this smilie means -> ) and I may be missing out on something... This post is not to offend anyone, just to give an opinion, which I guess is what this forum is about.
  3. As promised, now I've put some 2.000miles on them and I'm not disappointed :D The grip from the P7s is phenomenal. I have not managed to loose traction even once since I got them and that includes driving in rain (I was out of the country during the day of snow...). On the previous Nexen 2000 tyres (or something like that) the rear end was just all over the place, especially in the wet. I noticed that some US customers of the Pirelli P7s have complained about tyre noise. I can not confirm this. I think these P7s are very quiet and defo quiter than my previous combination of Nexen 2000 (rear) and Goodyear Eagle F1 (front). I can't really comment on tyre wear yet, but it looks promising so far.
  4. I've just had 4 new Pirelli P7 fitted on my GS300 MkI (225/55R16 - maybe not your size). I have to say that noise is not a problem at all, so they have obviously "cured" this problem when they converted the best parts of the P Zero to P7... I can't yet comment on wear and tear but the grip is fantastic. Read my initial comments in the tyre forum when I get it written later tonight (I hope).

    Help

Of course I did, but you know the rules: Don't mention specific discounts on the open forum, hence my reference to list price only... B)
  6. Well, now I am using them. I'll let you know what I think later when I have put more miles in them...

You should definitely go for full 4 wheel alignment - and get it done properly at Lexus where they have the right equipment and the right reference data. I had my tracking adjusted by the dealer I bought my GS300 from and it helped somewhat, but today I had the full 4 wheel alignment done at Lexus Cambridge at a fixed list price of £99.88 - it took them 2.5 hours as mine were way out... I got a full report where I can see what was wrong and how it has been adjusted back within the reference values. Not worth saving the money and get it done at a dodgy place, just to have to get it done properly afterwards... There are BTW several threads on this forum about this. See also my recently posted link to an article describing the technicalities of wheel alignment (click here)
  8. Being a relatively new owner of a Lexus GS MkI, I have read a lot about the various "wobble syndrome" of the steering on the GS. Mine has "something" as well, and my local dealer sorted out the tracking and said that is the only thing to adjust and it is now perfect (they probably didn't even drive it...). Well, after adjusting tracking the steering has improved but is still far from what can be expected from a luxury car like the GS. So I went searching the web and found this useful article. I can now relatively confidently say that my car has caster problems ("If the caster is equal but too negative, the steering will be light and the vehicle will wander and be difficult to keep in a straight line"), and I hope that my appointment with Lexus on Wednesday for a full 4 wheel alignment will sort out that and whatever else there is with the steering. And finally, if your tyres are worn unevenly, you need to get new tyres on before doing a 4 wheel alignment - I'm getting my new Pirelli P7 on just before the alignment :D Happy reading.
  9. All speedos show more than your actual speed. This is due to "speed kills lobbying" or similar. I've been told that a speedo must NEVER show less than the actual speed, so all manufacturers go on the safe side and generally show some 5-10% more than actual speed. This is good for avoiding speeding tickets... And yes, new wheels/tyres in a different size than original influences the speedo reading. In the country where I learned about these things, only 5% difference in new wheels rotating distance from original is allowed.

What is a Toyota Celsior? Is it a Toyota-badged Lexus LS? Could you post some pictures maybe?
  11. I need 4 new tyres for my GS300 MkI. I've been looking at the new-ish Pirelli P7 - does anyone use them and what's your verdict so far?
  12. I usually buy from www.dabs.com. It's usually the cheapest place on the net and their return policy is fair. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 172B (from dabs.com) which I bought about a year ago for £350, I think. It is very good methinks and looks darn good B)
  13. The seller doesn't seem to have the best feedback on eBay... Be cautious...
  14. I don't have a logo either. I joined about a week ago and have already received my welcome pack - but no logo...
