  1. Very interested in this. Please let us know how you get on. Can I ask - would you be able to give a list of parts that you ordered and where from? Were they OEM or aftermarket? Thanks
  2. It must be possible to source the springs from non premium pack cars and fit these. This is what they are doing in the US
  3. Hi! Just a quick question - I've noticed recently that my 2001 ls430 gearbox is fairly noisy. It seems to be working fine however so I was wondering how other peoples sound. The noise is actually during idle rather than driving. With the windows down it makes a fair bit of noise when shifting between P and D. It sounds like it needs oiling or something to that effect. As I said it seems to be working fine so maybe a bit of noise is normal? I'd appreciate others experiences as I am not too familiar with automatic transmissions! Thanks
  4. Can I ask what you mean by warranty? Is this a third party warranty you have? Thanks
  5. Thanks for that. Be keen to know the results as I am considering some TLC also!
  6. On a related note this may be of some interest to you - I am tempted to swap the air suspension to a conventional system and found a OEM Lexus kit from the usa - I'd be keen to know what your thoughts were: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/94344-swapping-air-suspension-to-springs-official-lexus-sports-kit-ls430/#entry887225
  7. Hi I think my air suspension is failing (rear sagging and noisy air compressor). The car has done just over 100000 miles and the suspension is in need of a refresh anyway. I am tempted to go down the line of changing the air suspension to conventional spings but can not find any up to date posts regarding people doing this in the UK. I have also found a Lexus OEM 'sports kit' - this would be ideal but it is for US cars. Does anyone know if this would be a straight swap onto a UK car with air suspension? http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accessories-catalog/Exterior/LS430-2002/3102.html Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the replies. As above I have seen the google results but these are not actually specialists. http://www.prautos.co.uk is the closest to a Lexus specialist that I can find
  9. Hi I finally decided on a ls430 and found a car . it has had new brakes fitted but these are making a squealy / whining sound even after a few weeks. These were fitted by the previous owner. During fitting a rear brake wear sensor was damaged. I have a replacement. Lexus tell me the squeal can only be gotten rid of by using OEM brakes as non OEM won't have an anti shim device. Is this true? They also want £90 for the labour to fit the brake sensor. Can anyone recommend an indpendant mechanic in the Yorkshire area who is familar with the ls430? Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the replies. I have settled on the 400 and will hopefully pick it up on Wednesday !
  11. Thanks for the replies. The situation has now been complicated slightly by being offered another car : 2001 ls430 with 90k miles for £3000. Has the following history 19-11-03 Lexus Sheffield 2921 miles 21-12-07 Samson Lexus 13000 miles 26-09-08 Samson Lexus 22870 miles 07-09-09 CTM BMW 32557 miles 15-09-10 CTM BMW 40986 miles 11-08-11 Lexus Sheffield 51436 miles 08-11-12 Burnett cars 76987 14-02-14 Glyn Jones Lexus 85858 Cambelt changed 11-08-11 51436 miles Only issues are telescopic steering not working and delamination of one of the rear windows. I know steering is an expensive fix but I can live with this. It has 1 year mot with no advisories (Ls400 has 5 months) . this has had 4 previous owners hhowever so I will be the 5th/6th. Again a genuine seller. So do I go for the newer ls430 with regular recent use and servicing or the cheaper older ls400 but with only two owners. The ls400 is now being offered at £1100. The car will be used daily. Any advice appreciated !
  12. Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify : The last mot said Corrosion o both upper suspension arms, cleaned checked removed dirt and found no corrosion. Wear on both front suspension lower ball joints Owner says corrosion was minor, cleaned and treated. Regarding the last 5 years - the current owner had owned since 2003 (11 years) and it looks like he looked after the car well while using it regularly. For the past 5 years it has seen reduced use due to retirement and hence the lack of sservice. Electrics wise he says the only item not working is he heating element of driver side mirror which I don't mind. It does need the cambelt and I don't mind doing this (how much would Lexus main dealer charge?). Its an r reg so early mk 4 - should I be waiting for a later 2000 mk4? I suppose if I did go for it it would take it through a cambelt change and full service and oil change and then look to have the suspension sorted in the near year? I like the fact its been owned the same owner since 2003 am wary of lack of use /service over last 5 years.
  13. Thanks for the reply. To clarify is has regular mots each year. The last stated play in 3 ball joints. Thanks again
  14. Hi I'm struggling to find a mk4 ls for sale with a decent history. Preferably want to buy from an owners club member. I have been offered a 98 ls with only two owners. It has been kept by the prev owner since 2003 with the following service history all from Lexus main dealer with invoices: (I have been told there is service hisotry before 35000 but only stamps in the book) Serviced @ 35889 miles 10/04/03 Serviced @ 46037 miles 9/12/03 Serviced @ 55455 miles 26/4/04 Serviced and Timing Belt changed @ 63590 miles 11/11/04 Serviced @ 72709 miles 4/07/07 Serviced and Front Disc and pads @ 81205 miles 13/7/07 Serviced and Rear Pads @ 90309 miles 1/4/09 The car is now at around 98k with the same owner . my worry is it has not had an oil change or service for 5 years now. On the other hand it has been taken to Lexus at the correct mileage intervals by its owner since 2003. I am told the car is started and run regularly. I've been offered £1400 to buy with 5 month MOT. What do people think to the service history?
  15. Hi I'm on the lookout for an ls400 - but am struggling with decent insurance quotes. Everything is £1000 + . I've tried Chris Knott's and Adrian flux. I am late 20s, have 6 years ncb. I'd be happy with third party only but even that is expensive. The car is 14 years old + and worth around £1000 - I don't want to pay the same in insurance! Any advice would be appreciated!
  16. I had noticed that advent and wondered if it was the same car. Car looks like it has the dhp package on if I am not mistaken. There is also this car which the seller confirms is still for sale - it has been around for quite a while now so I wonder why it hasn't sold?http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C501559
  17. Well spotted! I think I'll wait until a low mileage enthusiast owned car becomes available. I'd much rather buy privately than from a dealer.
  18. What do people think to the following: http://www.sh-car-sales.co.uk/used-cars/lexus-ls-4-0-v8-4dr-auto-bedford-201408286944670 http://www.jrtcarsales.co.uk/used-cars/lexus-ls-4-0-v8-4dr-auto-cardiff-201406305421449 Thanks!
  19. Thank you for the replies. The ideal would be a mk2 LS430 but I think that will be out of budget for me. So I think I will be on the look out for a low mileage mk4 (ideally owned by an enthusiast). Are there any differences between a 98 mk4 and 2000 mk4? Now I just need to find one!
