  1. I think I've seen them referred to as Void bushes Wheel off - nsr - a bar goes from the body to the hub area at (on a clock) about 10 o clock - the hub end is waving in the breeze!!! But the bushes are not my immediate concern, the suspension bottoms out at the slightest bump so I assume the shocks have gone.
  2. I know that a number of members have replaced their shocks and bushes. Has anyone done it themselves? How easy is it? Any pitfalls? Do I need a spring compressor? Where is the best place to buy them? Cheers Dave <edit> 09:32 Just ordered a pair of shox from BuyPartsBuy for £113.13 inc Vat and del </edit>
  3. Here http://www.earthtoys.com/emagazine.php?iss...p;article=naftc is a very interesting page on the RX400H drivetrain - describes how the engine and electric motors go together and work - plus a nice cutaway of the whole installation. I found it while searching for a cutaway of a Supra twin turbo engine - anyone know of a good one?
  4. Web designer/programmer for datadriven websites - VS2005 SQL2005
  5. Hi I'm looking for a nicely detailed cutaway drawing as above (public domain pref) for a framed present. I'm not particular about the format, I can convert from just about anything, just need a good starting point. Cheers Dave
  6. Bear in mind that when you use engine braking, a lot of strain is put on the timing belt (amongst other things) in the 'wrong' direction. I used engine braking to slow an Audi 100 V6 (2.8 I think) in a hurry once and the timing belt jumped a couple of teeth. Cost me an AA tow from the M25 J28 to Ipswich, a day off work as a contractor (so no money), then £850 to a local mechanic to get ALL the valves replaced as they were bent, luckily no damage to the pistons! Not a good advert for engine braking!! I dont do it any more!!!
  7. So now the only thing that can be done is to whip the hard drive out of the laptop, hook it up to another machine (probably desktop) and take the stuff off manually, put the drive back and reuild, then transfer from the other machine to the laptop - simple (ish):>) Do you really need the stuff that badly???
  8. www.lexls.com is a really good site for tutorials and this page in particular may help you http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/cooling/coolant.html
  9. Back in the days of coils for sparks and contact breaker sets, leaving the ignition on would burn a coil out pretty quickly if the breaker was closed. That was the only thing that my dad ever said about leaving the ignition on (he was an engineer with RR for 30 years so knows a bit). I would hope that these days some sort of electronics would protect whatever produces the sparks, cant think of anything else that could get actually damaged. my2p
  10. d&d My Documents yes no probs that will copy everything in there to your ext drive, Program Files no, wont work. Any progs not installed by the rebuild will have to be separately installed You have PM
  11. Ghost (and others of its ilk) are fine when the systems running properly! Ad is worried about losing what hes currently got!!
  12. If I was closer I could do the job pretty easy, PM if you need more advice Good Luck
  13. oooops OK if you have always just let your machine decide where to save everything then all your data files will probably be in your My Documents folder in different subfolders. All you have to do is copy My Documents to your Ext drive then copy it back after the deed is done, but not knowing whether all the progs you use store files there I cant guarantee saving everything. Equally you will have to back up your emails to your Ext drive too then restore them after. Its not something that can easily be described to a non- techie (no slight intended) I'm afraid
  14. As long as you know where all your data files are from a directory/folder point of view then its a piece of ..... just copy em all to your ext drive, recover your disc copy them back, BUT, as Derek says, make sure you have all the reinstall media and serial numbers etc to reinstall all the progs that you have installed since owning the machine
  15. Data files are the only ones that you can do that with really (letters, spreadsheets, porn etc), your programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc etc) will need to be freshly installed to ensure all the associated drivers get 'hooked up' again properly, and registry entries are made properly.
  16. When I replaced them (on my Mark II) last the wires were on the pads (same as others I've changed in the past). So far I have replaced all four sets of pads with whatever I got from Halfords once since having the car (5 years and 50k miles), and the Low Pad warning light came on briefly yesterday so I will check them at the weekend. They dont make too much dust and they work fine - they have to, I tow a 1200kg caravan 20 odd weekends a year and have never had a problem. Trev, still having no luck with the rams!! Hey - its warm weather - they work OK!!!!!!
  17. Well.... this http://www.thebeatlesforever.com/processtext/abcpdf.html is not free but its only $12.95 for a single license!! If youve got a big job to do maybe you need better than a freebie Dave
  18. http://www.solidpdf.com/download.htm?produ...lidConverterPDF Go see it, below is a clip from the web page - not free but as you can see with a bit of effort - almost!!! "Solid Converter PDF is available for a free 15-day trial. The Professional v3 trial version works for 15 days and allows you to convert 10 percent of the document (up to 10 pages) at a time. You can do this multiple times and specify a different page range each time." Cheers Dave
  19. Why doesnt the 'Go To Last Unread' icon update itself every time? Normally I keep a LOC window open all the time on the 'View New Posts' screen, read all the new ones then refresh it, which (theoretically) updates all the icons to be gone until someone else posts to that thread. I say theoretically because most of the time a random few are left with an icon showing, and today almost none are going away. This may sound like a rant but its not meant to be - as a web designer myself I know just how flakey this sort of thing can be Equally for that reason I know just how much of a good job you all do to keep it running. So it was just an idle question really :D Cheers Dave
  20. OK, at home now, sorry (Mitchell On-Demand) disks only cover LS400 as far as I can tell, the user interface is apalling, I'd get sacked for writing one that bad!! If the ones on Ebay are the same make - Mitchell On-Demand - only use them if desperate (and they are cheap!!)! Sorry could not have been more help
  21. I have one that covers the LS and a load of other cars (just like the Ebay one ) - its at home - I'm at work - I will look tonight. The CD itself covers just about everything at a good level, if it covers the IS I will post later Cheers Dave
  22. We had a 2.2 VTEC Prelude import for 4 years and my son now has it, great car BUT dont try putting an adult in the back, and a child seat would I'm sure be a nightmare! Great car all the same, but not in the same league as a Lex!
  23. In the good old Scarface tradition - THIS POST IS NO GOOD WITHOUT PICS come on Maneesh (and anyone else with flags) - show us!!
  24. I dont have an IS so dont know PRECISELY, but, a handbrake should not prevent a denutted wheel coming off. If it were mine, I'd put the nuts back on a couple of turns to hold the wheel when it comes lose and just give it a good whack, its probably corroded onto the hub. Good Luck Edit If you hit the tyre - be careful of 'bounceback'!!!!, if you hit the wheel, be careful to us a pice of wood so's not to damage it!!!
