    Hi all

    I have a 06 GS450h, that doesn't run or powers on.

It had a few cells replaced throughout the years, some of it was done by not very reputable service providers, some has been changed by me and it's a bit of a mess.

Last time I had a check hybrid battery notification, I thought I will change the cells as usual and it will be fine.

When changing the cells, I checked the voltages, the connections and it all seemed to be fine / nothing abnormal.

I started it up and all of the previous error messages were still present, I managed to scan it with proper software and it gave me P0AFA P3004 C1259 C1310 B2243 errors.

Within a minute or two, the car powered off and since then I was never able to power it on.

The car doesn't register the key fob, although the 12v battery works.

We tried changing the 12v, checking most of the fuses, cables and we are thinking that it's the hv inverter now.

Likely there is a cable shorting somewhere?

    Anyone has any tips?

    The saga continues…

    Start of claim - 4th January 2023

4 calls throughout January to last week, same fob off “we have a back log”

1st complaint offered £75 compensation - I refused and told them said they should pay that to their approver

2nd call resulted in a manager calling me back with a fob off

The online complaints get put in a queue also

Absolute crap service in the event of a claim no fault or otherwise

To top it all after getting approval on the quote, they send you a survey to complete - my feedback is as below:

How do you rate Sarah’s Service - 8

How do you rate Churchill - 0

How likelihood woul you recommend Churchill - 0

Churchill are an embarrassment to the insurance industry - it feels like I am not insured. It does not take 6 weeks to approve a no fault claim. I have been fobbed off by call operators, Managers who frankly you should sack, and even when filling in a complaint on your website, that gets put in a queue and has not even had a response. As a customer who pays in advance to receive such shocking service, it is safe to say that I will be recommending to all not to use Churchill, I will not only not be renewing, I will be cancelling before the end of this cover completes. Your social media sites should tell you what your customer base thinks of your service, but by the looks of it Churchill ignore this as well. Overall if there was a minus number on your ratings I would be using that. Sarah gets an 8 as she was the one who put me on hold and within minutes came back and told me the approval had been given for the claim. If I were Sarah, I would find another employer. It is clear that customers premiums are being spent on the nodding dog TV adverts on prime time TV.

    Avoid at all costs.

An excellent Posting to the Debate Steve.

I would add just one set of a few words for you personally Steve,  Some Insurance Companies--and yours might be one such Company charge the client (you) should they seek to cancel a Contract prior to its previously agreed Termination Date. Unless you have checked the policy Wording, simply do not renew.

    Good luck.

As with so many others, I ALWAYS research insurance costs about 28 days before the end of the current policy, it is amazing how differently insurance providers can quote from one year to the next (without any tangible changes in my parameters save for age of my wife and me, my car's accruing mileage, and yet another year on my NCB)

I'm certain their quotes are affected by their own block quota requirements, and any changes in the crime / claim rates in a neighbourhood.

I also inevitably use a cashback operator like Quidco or TopCashBack  - - that often provides a further £30<>£50 rebate.

There are some extremely poor insurance companies out there, (over the 50 years+ I've experienced a few!) and no matter how cheap they may appear, if they don't provide a good service when you need them, it's money wasted!

A recent Which? Magazine report reported that the top six insurance providers (based on customer service/claims/communications etc) were

    NFU Mutual

    LV

    Saga

    Direct Line

    AXA

    (the) AA

Obviously these are results aggregated over many different ages, circumstances and areas, and everyone may have their specific criteria, but this appears to be a reasonable guide.

The Top3 have been Top 3 for more years than Land Rover have been in the Bottom 3 of Reliability Surveys !

Do motorists only seek the Bottom Line of Cost ? Seems that they do  !

I've just received my renewal notice from Aviva (c. £800, and high compulsory excess), so I've decided it was time to look around. I've just got 1 windscreen claim in the last 5 years, but the cheapest I could find on a price comparison site was £900, and everyone seems to want a compulsory excess of at least £250.

I tried Lexus Insurance, and they came in at £860 - or £880 if I want to insure against the £250 excess. They might be worth considering for me, if only for the reassurance of having repairs done in a Lexus bodyshop if the worst happens.

It's all very expensive, and my pension doesn't have a London weighting!

Does any Pension have a London Weighting, I ask ?

Just went to book my IS 300h into Lexus Reading for a service and the vent tube recall work (to be done together). I had a date in mind of second week in April as thought 6 weeks would be plenty of notice to get a courtesy car as well (usually need to give about 3 weeks notice for a courtesy car). However, when I called them, the earliest appointment I could get with a courtesy car was last week in April (which is 8 weeks away), at which time due to some longer up and coming trips the car would be well past the service due mileage.

Seems that my dealer group at least are rather short or courtesy cars - not sure if that's down to the shortage of new car deliveries and Lexus prioritising what stock they have to fulfil customer orders?

So, just a heads up - if you are looking to have a courtesy car the next time your car is due in, worth checking on availability early.

Phil, What are you doing re the "car would be well past the service due mileage" problem ?

    From todays on-line Daily Mail

    "

While Land Rover models were the five most-recovered cars, according to its records for last year, it says hybrid vehicles are also becoming 'rich pickings' for criminals.

The Lexus RX 450h entered Tracker's top ten most stolen and recovered league table, which is the first time a Lexus vehicle has ever appeared in its annual review of stolen and recovered vehicles.

Keyless cars 'twice as likely to be stolen'

A major insurer last year examined theft claims data and found that cars with keyless technology are twice as likely to be pinched as those without these features, and criminals are becoming increasingly brazen as more are ditching the cover of darkness to steal vehicles in broad daylight.

Aviva said claims records held on its database for between August 2020 and August 2022 show that the number of cars stolen with keyless entry and keyless start systems were twice the volume of models without the tech.

A spokesperson told This is Money: 'Analysis of our claims data reveals that theft claims are twice as likely to occur for keyless vehicles than non-keyless models.'

    > Read more: How keyless cars are more likely to be stolen

'A sharp rise in thefts of the Lexus RX450h in the second half of the year indicates it's likely to remain a target for thieves,' it said."

Hate to think of the impact on insurance renewals 🤯

Very good Phil. Much to ponder for Lexus and the owners, methinks.

Your car was parked on a busy road AND a cyclist went past! They are so brazen.

Had the car been parked contrary to the Highway Code,(as was the vehicle adjacent to it ) the access wheel would have been on the "offside" thus putting the scum in an extremely dangerous position in relation to passing traffic.

    Worth thinking about.

Hi all, picked up my 450h (2021) yesterday and off to France tomorrow, do I need to do anything with the light settings, if so, where do I find it, I’ve searched quite hard and find very little! Loving the car after going from a Mini Cooper S Roadster 😂

    Welcome Nick.

Drive on the right and do observe the speed limits(and don`t even think of arguing with a Gendarme ) !👍🤣

So what that guy only covered 2.3k miles in his new car. When you buy new you expect everything in that car is new. Fact is tho things like batteries and brake pads are bought in bulk as they fit many models.

As for new batteries dying due to lack of use I'm not buying that.

I bought my car 2nd hand. Actually I'm it's 2nd owner. Last year I had to buy a new battery but I needn't have bothered as it was my alternator which died. I've still got that old battery and in a year of it out of the car it's not lost 1 volt. Goes to show not all batteries are the same and that branded ones aren't always the best.

That guy was well in his rights. That dealer should be shot.

Good to see you back John. Hope you've gotten over what was ailing you.

    Thanks Vlad.

Not possible to get over it Vlad,I will just have to live with it and try to minimiise the impact

My contributions will inevitably be reduced. Stay well and stay safe.

  11. The exact situation described in the Article happened with us a few years ago with my wife`s Mazda 2.

I requested a new Battery under the 3 year Mazda Warranty and was refused due to the low mileage covered. I went sort of Ballistic and requested chapter and verse within the Warranty Exclusions which of course the Mazda Dealer could not produce. Fortunately my practice of trying to  develop and maintain good and effective personal relationships with the Service Staff came into play and having reminded them of something they already knew, but had forgotten (my wife`s Cancer Operation and Recovery) had prevented her from driving, they looked upon the matter in a completely different light.

There is much that Dealers can do to inform Customers of matters which they may not like, but there is much that  much that Customers can do to develop and maintain good and effective Relationships with Dealers.

  12. Ask the expert: Toyota said I need to do 7,000 miles a year for the warranty to apply – is this right?

As the Telegraph’s motoring expert, I weigh in on your car dilemmas to save you money and make your driving life easier

Like most manufacturers, Toyota doesn’t cover the 12-volt battery by default under its warranty Like most manufacturers, Toyota doesn’t cover the 12-volt Battery by default under its warranty

    Dear Alex,

My 2021 Toyota C-HR suffered three breakdowns due to the 12-volt Battery going flat. The first two times, the RAC condemned the Battery, but the Toyota dealer insisted it did not need replacing. The final time, the dealer agreed the Battery was shot, but wanted to charge £145 to replace it, saying the warranty didn’t apply as my mileage was too low (2,300, partly due to the pandemic), and that I needed to do 7,000 miles a year for the warranty to apply.

I refused, and threatened publicity, after which the dealer agreed to replace the Battery as a goodwill gesture, but I was told I still needed to do 7,000 miles a year for the warranty to apply. I was not aware of this warranty stipulation – can Toyota do this?

    – AM

    Dear AM,

The worrying thing is the dealer’s assertion that owners had to do a minimum mileage for the warranty to apply. I was sure that Toyota made no such stipulation in its warranty terms, but I asked a company spokesman just to check. He said: “Should a failure occur then this would be addressed under the manufacturer warranty (provided it had cover) and if a manufacturing defect was found, it would be covered under these terms.

There is no mileage limitation in respect of batteries for the warranty terms to apply; if a part is deemed faulty with a manufacturing defect it is replaced.”

That settles that. However, it is fair to point out that like most manufacturers Toyota doesn’t cover the 12-volt Battery by default under its warranty; it is considered a service item. I would still have hoped that the dealer would agree that a Battery that died only a year after the car was produced would be considered defective, irrespective of whether it was covered under the warranty.

And in the end, in this case, the dealer did the right thing. It’s just a shame they got there via a set of rather spurious assertions about the warranty cover. I can’t imagine why you were given such flagrantly erroneous information, unless it was some misguided effort to avoid having to make a payout.

No, it’s apparently only available on line. And to be honest I find it easier to search the online manuals for what I need.   Though in terms of gimmee’s I did get rubber floor mats.  😀And Christian at Bristol Lexus (Marshall’s) was excellent throughout.

Please PM me with advice on how to search the online manual Pete. I don`t seem to be able to do so for my 19 NX.Thanks.

I have, finally, taken delivery of my NX 450h+ FSport and I am now spending some time getting used to all the control positions and tech. My last car was a Mercedes so it’s quite different.  A quick update so far is an unnerving incident on my way home from the dealer and an issue often reported on this site.  The first issue was after leaving the dealership and cruising on the M4 home the dashboard virtual instruments, Speedo etc, and including the HUD failed and then rebooted every 15 seconds or so.  Anxiety inducing when travelling at 70 mph!  The second issue was during a recharge on my home station the Lexus Link app reset itself to indicate the car was still ‘In transit’.  I fixed it by logging into the Lexus.Co.uk site and adding the car back in with the VIN and some additional details.  I haven’t experienced either issue again and it’s just into day 3 so looks like it’s all good.  I am very happy with the car and look forward to getting more experience of it in the coming days.

Did you get any Hard Copies of the Handbook or Owner`s Guide Pete ?
