  1. can anybody help? I know this is a bit of an old favourite but i really cant find the answer in previous posts. I have just recieved an ntsc/pal - rgb converter and was hoping to find out where to fit it in my 98 aristo vertex. I have seen the wiring colours for newer gs and is on here but not for mine. What is the actual cofiguration of it all, in the boot there is an amp, nav unit and another little box which i thought might have been the tv tuner but i am not sure. If i got this converter to work i was hoping to install a dvd player as well. Would love the sat nav to work on the original screen but i dont think this is possible? Does the tv picture go through the sat nav unit? Any help would be super before i blow myself up. Why am i doing this? I don't even watch the bloody telly.
  2. Thanks for all of the replies, It is indeed the tt vertex I have and it does have ars which I made kick in one time and it felt kind of strange. Having changed a number of parts I think I will keep a list of part numbers and info I have to try and save people the trouble I have had. The trouble is with all these gadgets to keep you on the straight and narrow is that you start to feel invincible. I shall be getting her fixed properly after the xmas and may start the job of tuning her up a bit(im half hoping I can break the exhaust on a speed hump.
  3. sorry my mistake, I was thinking of bying a soarer originally so that must have been where I saw it. Mind you it must have this tems that you are talking about and if so it must have some sort of adjustable dampers with fluid or air in them, mind you the lexus dealer did mention air so it is probably that. I think I will take it to a quick fit garage for a laugh and whilst hes checking the exhaust up on the lift I will see what I can see, mind you hes bound to say it needs a full new exhaust system even though theres nothing wrong with it, they always do. In fact I remember a mate who had one fitted by them at one outlet then took it to another a month later, when the mechanic said he needed a new back section he just laughed and showed him the receit with the twelve month guarentee and said get on with it.
  4. Wish I could get hold of a manual somewhere. I did try the number posted on a previous page but they said it would not worth be getting done as it was just very basic owners handbook that they have. I do remember reading somewhere that they had air suspension though and if you think about it the fact that it should stiffen when in pwr mode means it must have an active suspension. I should probably ask the chap who has racing his on the track.
  5. Not sure about in morning, I will have a look tomorrow, but it looks quite level. Am I right in suggesting that when you first start the car up the rear end should raise slightly.
  6. Sorry to ask more or less the same question again but, Ive just contacted my local lexus dealer (newcastle) whob informed me that my aristo vertex has air suspension on the rear ( which would explain how it use to stiffen in sports mode). He says there may be one or two of the bags popped? I can only assume these are some type of air chamber. Unfortunatley he will not touch the car as there are very few similarities with a normal lexus. Can anyone please clarify what could have gone wrong further or point me in the way of a garage (I also stop in chester so that area is possible as well). Thanks, Dave..
  7. I often travel 175 miles to work and 175 miles back. I find I can just about do it on a full tank of optimax if I take my time e.g. set cruise to its max (67m.p.h.). Will try it in snow mode and let you know.
  8. No, it just seems to have happened in the last month. I suspect there whiring noise might be a bearing for the prop shaft as it feels like the vibration is under foot in the middle of the car. As it is rear wheel drive there must be some sort of bearing on the end of the prop shaft I think. Mind you someone did tell me it could be the rear wheal bearings as he says it is hard to tell where the noise comes from. If they are springs on the car I may try some upgraded racing type ones.
  9. thanks for the quick replies. I will press the switch on xmas day as I have had a bet on a white one.
  10. Congrats pn bying an amazing car. I will be interested on how you get on with the sat nav/tv. You will find that the fm radio is 18mhz out on the display e.g. 97.1mhz will display 79.1mhz. The tv will need converting somehow as it will be in ntsc instead of the pal format that we use. You can get converters quite cheap but it is knowing where to put it as there are only plug couplers on the back of the unit and I think the tv tuner is elsewhere. I was thinking of purchasing a dvd player that has a tv tuner built in(I think they are under a 100 quid) but I will have to see how to connect it all up. The sat nav is of no use and I think a whole new replacement unit will be needed. If you find anything out please let me know.
  11. well the topic says it all really, what does the snow switch do exactly on the vertex. I thought I better find out before the snow comes. I noticed that the abs does not help the car much in the frost, it just stops you braking.Does this switch compensate somehow and when should it be used, eg can you drive on the motorway with it on or is it only for low speeds.
  12. I am having a few probs with my vertex. Firstly the suspension at the back end does not seem to be working. If I have a passenger in the back then the car seems to be sitting back on its wheels and the exhaust hits every speed hump no matter how small, infact it bottomed out on a bumpy bit on the motorway. Does my 98 aristo have normal springs or is it some sort of self levelling suspension(a bit like the old citreon xm I used to have, what was I thinking of). Secondly I seem to be getting a whiring noise at the front end of the car at certain speeds. It sounds like a bearing but I have replaced both front bearings and pads plus discs. Any info would be greatly apreciated before I take it to a lexus garage that will probably just guess anyway.
