  1. Good evening, Just a thread update for anyone that has been experiencing the same problem as me. Apologies for the late check-in, I have been away wasting my time :D. I dropped my car off for a few days with my mechanic, who took apart the egr valve and cleaned it, replacing air and fuel filter for good measure. He then gave me a bottle of fuel additive that is supposed to help regenerate the dpf. He recommended shell v-power half a tank, and a blast up the motorway for about an hour and then see what the situation is. I rang RRG Lexus cough Stockport cough, who said the problem could be anything, with no warning lights on the dash board its a case of replace everything it could be. injectors, turbo, dpf regeneration, egr valve etc. So my next step is to use the fuel additive, see if this makes a difference. If not maybe look to dpf removal, possible new injectors and eventually a turbo if none of the above help. I am hoping its a case like postman. :)
  2. Evening fellas, thanks for the replies. So you're suggesting the egr valve needs taking out and cleaning. I have seen a youtube video showing this so that is not a problem, just hope the weather sorts itself because I do not fancy standing under my bonnet in hail and strong winds. I will recheck the egr valve, I should really blast it down the motorway more often than I am able to. I will get my mechanic to check the dpf and if hes not too busy, the clutch too. Cheers, if I can find the solution I owe you all a drink :D
  3. Evening all :), Straight to the point, I had my car serviced by an independent mechanic recently who claimed to have cleaned the egr valve and checked my dpf as well as standard, oil change filter etc. Travelling to London I had the VSC light come on and green flag rep came out and using diagnostic equipment suggested egr valve trouble. He proceeded to spray it with some lubricant, to be honest I can not remember, the code cleared and I drove high revs all the way to London (from Manchester) getting around 35mpg. For the past couple of weeks, driving my car locally it releases a heavy amount of exhaust fumes. To describe I would say greyish white maybe. Also, although I do not suffer any power loss, I am experiencing some sort of delayed acceleration action, where I will put my foot down, the revs will rise, say from 2000-4000 revs and my car will hesitate a couple seconds and then speed will increase. This all coupled with a now average of 32mpg has me a little worried. A couple of suggestions have been made, transmission oil, (this was on the american lexus forum) so I am not sure of it being relavent to the diesel, the head gasket but I am not sure how to check this, or clutch. Anyone experienced the same on their car or any suggestions would be most helpful, I intend on running my car for a few more years yet. Cheers all :)
  4. Hello Mark, I drive a 2006 Lexus is220d and for the past 6 years-ish in my ownership it has been superb. The basics come to this my friend, Do you want a decently efficient diesel, relatively cheap to run and looks good but is pretty much the same as everyone elses, Or do you want a beautifully designed, quiet, motorway mile muncher which is a joy to be in? The IS220D in my opinion is not really designed to be involved driving, to let the back slide just a little as you take a fast corner trying to beat your home commute time. It is designed to wade gently through miles of motorway as you sink into the luscious seats, 6th gear, tap cruise control and settle down for the journey. It is an excellent car for what it was designed to do and it does it well. Just as any other, it occasionally has some problems but no more than any other car. Think of it like an old man, its all about taking it easy, enjoying the ride, no hurry to get anywhere, if you want the opposite ze germans churn out more than enough of generic m sport, amg replica s line tin cans to choose from :). Good luck
  5. As someone who has recently experienced abysmal mpg, a drop from 38mpg to barely 32 on a rang of mixed driving, this is superb news :).
  6. hey steve thanks for the reply. As far as I know in my owner ship the egr valve has never been cleaned. That said would a full engine strip and rebuild be viable?
  7. Hi all, I am new to the forum and instead of having 2 threads one of introducing myself and one of a potential problem I thought why not join both and here we are. I drive an 06 Lexus IS220d, which recently completed 102000 miles of superb (touch wood) driving, cruising, school runs and shopping trips. I absolutely love it and intend on running it into the ground and then some. That said I have been getting a little bad luck, all starting with a *beep* monkey at Knowsley safari who decided to take a bite out of the plastic strip on the front windshield. Then a while later a young girl in a yaris hit my passenger door mirror causing the mirror to come out of the casing as well as the motors. These are superficial and dont actually take anything away from me smiling every time I get in. The problem I am having that I hope somebody can help me with is, I know the turbo takes years to kick in, that never really bothered me. Usually for my car in 1st gear the turbo will boost from about 1500 revs, 2nd gear it kicks in just below 2000 revs. Recently the turbo doesn't seem to be spooling up. I will floor it in first gear and although the car will move it is not as brisk as before and just generally makes engine noise. In 2nd gear it is no longer boosting till around 2500-3000 revs. Has anybody had this problem? or know what the problem is will be of a huge help. I have heard something about the "turbo actuator" but I have no idea what that is Any help most appreciated And heres to many more happy miles (Hopefully)
