  1. I had always assumed that the USDM climate control would work as a substitute for the UKDM touchscreen when installing aftermarket head units. Good to know this is not the case! I have had a UKDM 1998 LS400 and now have a JDM 1999 Celsior and the touchscreen and associated hardware in the boot are quite different (not just the language: screen is better, controls all laid out differently to UKDM and USDM, additional audio functions.) Sorry I can't be more help.
  2. The only ones I've ever come across for the Mk IV were the Tanabe DF210: https://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/brands/tanabe/tanabe-lexus-ls400-95-00-6-3-3-0kg-mm-df210-springs.html Seem to be out of stock everywhere so discontinued now, unfortunately.
  3. You could get a wing and even if it was the same colour it would probably not match due to resprays at some time or just fading. A decent panelbeater should be able to do that wing quite reasonably. Unless the rust requires welding it shouldn't be a problem.
  4. I took one of these for a long test drive. Air suspension, speedo heads-up display, a very nice car. However, it didn't ride like a Celsior/LS400 because, well, it's not. Shorter and narrower wheelbase so less comfy and less interior room. I would have bought it but for the fact I knew how an LS400 rode...
  5. GS430 five spokes won't clear the big brakes. I've got them on my Soarer and checked against my UCF21. Best bet is the 18s from the 430. Look very smart on the 400. Don't move too far beyond stock offset. Handling and ride quality will be affected.
  6. Had my Celsior out this morning on the A22 and each journey reminds me of how good for the soul these cars are.
  7. Don't be cheap and use a screwdriver. If you are messing about with the interior buy one of the plastic pry sets referred to above. Save that lovely soft touch interior.
  8. So: 1. Wife locked car using key fob lock button. 2. Now when you unlock using the physical key the alarm goes off. If so, that is correct behaviour. The alarm is set by using the key fob lock button and deactivated using the unlock button. You need to press the unlock button on the key fob. I never use the fob to lock the car, only unlock it, as I don't want to set the alarm. Old alarms are bad news, even Toyota OEM. The immobiliser is enough security IMO. Starting the engine won't make it stop as the engine immobiliser function is separate from the alarm and is deactivated by the RFID chip in the key.
  9. Been throwing the Celsior around a bit and the tyres sure stick in the dry. Floored it from the lights a few times and no VSC. Good stuff.
  10. Thought about that but then every product I buy from my local Turkish store is of good quality. I'll give them a pass!
  11. Well spotted. Looks like salt corrosion to the alloy intake manifold and rust over all the bolts. The underside would be interesting.
  12. Looking at the reviews the dealer does not deserve to get any money. For half that price you could import a Celsior with that mileage.
  13. Had the Kumho Ecstas on my LS400 and two other cars. Brilliant tyres in the wet but not the quietest. Just had the Falkans above installed on my Celsior and they are very quiet. Made in Turkey unlike the Falkans on my Soarer which are made in Japan.
  14. On the LS400 factory coil and air have different ride heights, camber, toe etc.
  15. Plenty come up used on Yahoo Japan and they're often plusher than the Lexus UK mats.
  16. I used these guys for my mk IV. When I received the mats the fronts were not the best fit (perhaps MK3?). They asked for me to send a template of my old ones and made up perfect front mats. Great service. US front mats will not work for obvious reasons.
  17. Think that might have been you. They gave different names to the paint depending on the country. 6Q7 is the code, I believe.
  18. A place that has done a few LS400 exhausts (including resonator deletes) is EMP Performance at St Albans. I've not used them but have heard good things about them.
  19. Yesterday (Sat 29 June) spotted a beautiful Mk IV LS400 in imperial jade mica on the A22 south of Uckfield. Also saw two LS430s, both looking very clean.
  20. Unparalleled Japanese bubble economy research, development and engineering, as delivered by Japan's top motor manufacturer in its top global car. You simply will not find cars built to that standard again. Enjoy it while we can emit emissions as we like. I was at a car show recently and took a good look at 1990s Mercedes, BMW and Rolls, inside and out. The LS400 is a better car with better materials than all of those cars, bar the leather used in the RR. Wood trim on all other makes was splitting and the cheap polyurethane finish had yellowed. Leathers cracked, plastics not flush anymore etc. Mechanically, well, the Toyota guys all looked relaxed while the others guys talked about the usual plastic water impeller failures/overheating/transmission failures etc.
  21. I like the comment that your father didn't like the Silvia. Quite a different beast to a large barge, but impeccable taste nonetheless.👍
  22. It's interesting seeing the interior pictures of the E38. The fit is not as good as the LS400; not as many flush surfaces between panels, and the rear light assembly looks less than integrated.
