  1. A much braver (and more skilled) man than I. If it helps, I had my 1992 Soarer 1UZFE alternator rebuilt after the leakage problem, and it ran fine for years afterwards.
  2. Both can be rebuilt. Any alternator place can do the alternator. Rock Auto in the US sell replacement pumps, too, and might sell a rebuild kit as I bought one for my UCF20 from them. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/lexus,1990,ls400,4.0l+v8,1187456,steering,power+steering+pump,7380 It would be cheaper to import a UCF10 Celsior with working air suspension than buying the lot from Toyota.
  3. Hi. I use Zenmarket and Buyee as agents. Sterling service, beautifully packaged and they treat you with the utmost respect.
  4. Looking very VIP. Speaking of neck pads, I recently added some interior trinkets including Celsior lace seat covers and a VIP table. Yahoo Japan can get expensive!
  5. Could it be an issue related to the intake VVTi that's controlled by an electric motor (as opposed to the solenoid activated exhaust VVTi)?
  6. Great information. I'll take mine there when mine needs doing, and nice to be able to do it bit by bit, and then assess any noise changes, droning etc.
  7. Isn't it pleasing when you get your car back from a mechanic and really feel the difference? That's a great run you've had out of the car and here's to many more happy miles.
  8. Top work man and love the plate.
  9. Good point. I'd be interested to dig around a GS300/Aristo to see what the component quality is like (drive train aside.) The LS and GS/Aristo were built in the same factory (Tahara), but it seems the LS400/Celsior is closer to the Toyota Century in terms of quality than anything else.
  10. One for the geeks. The Toyota Soarer V8 was sold as a Lexus in the US. However, under the skin it is not built like the LS400. The attached photo shows the clips used to fasten the interior upper window garnish on both the LS400 and the Toyota Soarer (I've bought new ones to replace the old clips that dry up and rattle). As you can see, the LS400 clip is much bigger and the plastic actually feels different to the Soarer one. And it's not simply a matter of having less clearance on the Soarer for fitting the window garnish-it's similar.
  11. I'm pretty happy with them and they seem equal to the weight and loft of the Lexus, but without the nice woven edges of OEM. Retaining holes are nicely reinforced. The fit is good, second time around after sending in a pattern of OEM mats. One small bother is that the driver's mat came with a tag with logo on it, but it can be removed neatly enough.
  12. Try a cassette demagnetiser, if they still sell such things. Have you tried a cotton bud with isopropyl alcohol, if you can access the head?
  13. I used a supplier on ebay and the mats that arrived did not fit my Mk IV correctly (earlier LS400, I suppose). To be fair, I then sent them a pattern of the existing factory mats and they copied it well (and presumably now have the correct pattern for Mk IVs...)
  14. This is going to be a wonderful trip with memories for a lifetime. Please start a thread showing your journey when you set out.
  15. This is the right stuff: https://www.techsil.co.uk/threebond-tb1281b-fipg-silicone Japanese writing on it and all
  16. The sealant Toyota re-labels and sells for this purpose is Threebond 1281B. Let me check my garage as I have some left and it will only go off (opened a few months agao-hopefully OK.) I can send it to you if that's the case as it's expensive and I won't be needing it for another 60k miles...
  17. Next to undersealing, messing about with car doors and windows is my least favourite job! Anyway, two replacement doors now on which look a whole lot better than the old ones. Now, to find out why the passenger mirror is not folding in but otherwise works. Things you test AFTER putting everything back together.
