  1. Thanks for the input and replies guys, I was just wondering if anyone had actually purchased the item or one like it from the link I posted to find out if the quality was any good. I try not to buy to much second hand, as stuff is only a little cheaper and you end up having to replace it sooner anyways!! They come with a 12 month warranty anyway, so if I get a years knock free driving out of it for the price...can't be bad and if it does give out within the time I'll get it replaced. He's got quite a few parts, for a few hundred quid i could prob renew the whole steering and sussy components. Russ.
  2. Hi guys, anybody bought and used any of the cheap Lex parts from Ebay? Just noticed while fiddling with shocks I could do with replacing front upper wishbones and for the price silly not to while I got it all apart? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331159305816?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Russ.
  3. Right before I put up a few comments on the work that was carried out this Sunday and a couple of pointers that will definitely help people out I would like to thank Steve, and Alan for taking time out to even bother helping thanks guys, its peeps like you that Forums need! @Steve, Thanks for the Manual although when i did open it I thought "**** what do i need all this for" Then spent 3 hrs reading and going through it all lol! How over engineered are these cars?!?!?! @Alan cheers for the pointers. I did use the clamps on strut removal to shorten the whole unit and they did just slip out with no prob's, so did make life a bit easier it also took pressure of the fixings which also helped. The one main thing that I found was the MK4 hasn't got the upper hooks they are 3 bolts hidden behind the flaps of leather under the headrests, which I found after half hr yanking and pulling, What this actually means is that YOU DO NOT NEED TO REMOVE THE SEAT AT ALL!!! You just undo the 3 top bolts and pull the top forward slightly you then pop the Sub cover off which allows enough room to lift shelf and get to the bolts! Hope this helps the next person! Russ.
  4. Oh Bugger was hoping it was only mechanical parts that needed removing not interior trim and bits, clips always break and then you have rattles and knocks when driving!!!! That would be great Steve if you have it, you have PM I did find this, is it the same on the facelift? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxOeKbjsljA My only question is I have spring clamps the same as the guy in the vid now if i use them to compress the springs while on the struts on car can i not use them to shorten strut to remove easier? Cheers!
  5. As title guys looking at swapping out all my struts tomorrow so any tips would be gratefully appreciated. Do I really need to remove back seat? Russ.
  6. Thanks for the tip Tulpen, I will look into it knowing my luck the 1998 will prob be different and will need a oem one. BigJap, Yeah that's what i thought it was or maybe someone had wired it straight to ignition. it does my head in as I don't listen to the radio much and its always up!! I'm being lazy as not looked yet but I'm sure I'm also getting water in from the fixing so needs sorting asap. Any ideas on the rear window prob guys? Russ.
  7. Sorry been crippled by "Manflu" past fortnight Thanks for the replies and links guys, they have been extremely helpful. Now a couple of electrical probs. 1, My electric aerial goes up as soon as i turn the ignition on even with stereo off? 2, Rear passenger auto close window if pushed it closes then drops down again? Any tips? Russ.
  8. I got my LS400 from Hunter Mackenzie in January. He is a really nice bloke very helpful and genuine but you gotta remember he is also a second hand car salesmen lol! so they will do or say anything if they are going to get a sale from you!! He keeps some cars in a lock up and some at his house and neighbors drives all pictures are taken from outside his house. he is mainly a small commercial vehicle dealer and Merc saloons but has moved over to sell the Lex as he said you get more for ya money with Lex. He was a pleasure to deal with and there hasn't been any real shocks with the car I knew there would be a few bits to sort due to the price I paid for the car. BUT I don't believe it should've passed the mot it had in November with some of the parts that I have now needed to replace (in my opinion) I wouldn't hesitate driving from London to Birmingham to check or buy another car from this guy! Russ!
  9. Hi Guys, As said in my previous post I have a few questions and queries about my recently purchased LS. Due to the weather situation all over the UK I still haven't been able to go over the car like I would normally but so far I'm presently surprised. OK lets start. Now I've been about for a bit in the modding game and I don't mind getting my hands dirty (bodywork, mechanical) never electrical!!! Firstly gave the car a Lil service fluids, filters front pads and disc's, original discs were warped and pads trashed (even though it was meant to have past mot with these late Nov 2013!!) It had a bad vibration slowing down from high speed and a weird problem with the abs at slow speed when on full right lock, it happened a few times when reversing out of my drive or trying three point turn, I put this down to the discs being warped and it catching the high point...... but It did it again the other morning with the new parts, it is only at low speed with foot on brake and full right turn it makes the abs fire and you can feel it through the brake peddle pulsating? Secondly got round to draining the diff!!!! Now not sure if its totally corroded or its been rounded off before but a 10mm Hex spanner will not fit and a 9mm is to small I've done a search on here and Google and its coming up as 10mm Hex anyone else had a prob? I'm doing this work in my driveway on the floor so getting a proper look isn't poss (wish I had room for ramps lol!) Boot leak, I have ordered new rubber and removed all carpet to dry it out, is there a water run along the top of the near rear window that may be blocked or is it a common problem that may have a cure? How the "F" do you replace bulbs in Headlights do I really need to take the battery and remove half the Airfilter housing I can clearly see to bolts holding them in along the front but undoing doesn't release them!!??!! Thank you help or info would be gratefully appreciated from this confused LS owner!! Russ! B)
  10. Thanks for the "Welcome" guys! Whats the best bet? is it to start a new topic or just to ask in here if I have a few questions? Russ.
  11. Would it be possible to point me in the direction of these pics? Cheers! EDIT No worries, I found them unfortunately I can't mod the ones I bought in the same way, Wished I'd seen this before buying!!

Hi Guys, New LS owner from London Town! I'm sure you'll here a bit from me as will need some help from the LS Geniuses! B)
  13. Hi Guys, Well I purchased a 98 LS in Jan, I just picked it up as a cheap runabout but after a good look over the car and the 100 mile drive home I am really impressed with the way it drove and condition of the car for the cash paid! Both side are straight with no carpark dings it has had a repair on the rear but expected on a big RWD V8, and there are a few little bits that could do with a fiddle. The plan was to drive it around get it running right and give it a lick of paint but so far apart from it needing new disc's pads and a lil' service which has now been done, its quite sorted may still give it a touch up but whole paint job not needed and I quite like the colour anyway. It has a few leccy probs which I will need some help or pointers with (reason I signed up!) B)
  14. Hi guys sorry first post but does anyone have a pic or image of these fitted with the bit cut out to make it fit? Appreciate it!
