  1. The CCTV is up and running not that I've figured out the settings. Awoke the other night around 1am and heard this beeping and as I don't take my mobile to bed had to go downstairs to get it and see what the devil was happening outside with this light/alarm system. Turn the Bl**dy thing off was my immediate thoughts but then it started making a consistent bleeping sound. Turned out to be one of the House smoke Alarms saying battery too low. Different noise than usual. So steps again downstaris and me in my PJ's carrying my night bags had to get the blighter down. Photo shows good clear image but I havent got it on "motion detection as Cats are always walking past the House and don't want this phone in our bedroom squaking every time a feline passes.. Signage up to conform to rules not that Hoodies with their faces covered are likely to see it. (I'll bear in mind the 80mph 130kph speed limit to abide by should I ever go to France again. )
  2. Your car looks glorious Steve. I've ordered a Sticker with "The Beast" on it. (Can be childish still) Wife says it looks like an eighties (?) Caddie ! Will it leak when finally exposed to the rain? Will the little Sh*its target it again? I've kept it under wraps until after the weekend. I've been thinking about that Q. as to Cabin pressure and come to the conclusion that it escapes at the back of the parcel shelf under the Plastic Boot trim piece. Anyone more knowledgable on this?
  3. A little more info. The Window is exact in its measurements from the top but may seem out because the Car is on a slightly raised area drivers side. However, I cocked up the centrepoint at the top by thinking that I could put a straight edge on the boot centre point (which I'd marked before the Chrome strip was removed) and then with a Spirit level get the top accurate. Big mistake, and should have done what I did before the fitting, put a string across the two top points and measure. Am about two inches out from centre - doh! I sound proofed the Car by gluing 1/8th Cork Sheeting about 70% to the inner area. Will today glue the Staithes(?) to the Sheeting. In due course I did plan to put plastic rivets at five inch intervals all round - similat to the sort used to fix Boot linings. Not sure if I'll do that or just put inch galvanised nails in to give extra strength against the internal pressure when the door gets closed. Not clear to me how this pressure gets dissipated. Understand that closing the boot uses the two vents in the sidewalls, but the Cabin????
  4. Well all, for better or worse I've almost completed the Rear Screen. I have no room for any Chrome but the beading of butyl is yt to be added and the boot end has to adhere to the platic rail. Before obvious critisism of the work in my defence I've laid awake for almost two months of incessant rain and dry and its been difficult to make progress. Couple this with the fact that I have advanced prostate Cancer, Lymphodeama , DVT and Bilateral Nephrostomys to my kidneys and you will understand wht I'v had to go through becuase of spiteful youths. Its wonky I know. The frivoulous fringe at the bottom is because I cut the material too short but couldnt start all over againand was too lazy to cut it off. Gives it a feminine feel! . I put the wrong side outer and not the rain proof side which meant I had to melt some silicone with white spirit and brush it all over to ensure rain runs off. I have yet to also stick it down to the plastic rail that crosses the boot. I've today glued it to the Cork and need wait 24 hours before finishing. The only Cabrio LS400 in existence?
  5. You are right Malc. but having had the Trannie pipe drop off the Radiator of my S140 series Merc just as I arrived home once, I bought the Rad just in case. It was a problem with a certain manufacturer which I may have mentioned before on this forum, Well known to Merc owners. Earlier Lexus didn't use them but had their own Rads which G willing will last to eternity. Only frontal impact or external corrosion likely to require replacement. Bl**dy weather - one day progress then two days Gales and wet! Doh!
  6. I've had a Nissens 64756A for 1990 Lexus) sat in the Garage for a few years now. I seem to recall I paid £45 for this new item but prices have risen as you can see. If you want it I can't promise to courier it as its in a large box. Happy to sell for same price. Not sure my old Gal will be on the road much longer. What could go wrong with my "cunning plan"? Its definately gone wrong on two fronts, but... if the waether hold out, we'll see. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304868376589
  7. Thanks Len for your thoughts. I filled in online a form for the Police which for some reason are Kent Police??? Despite this, not had a visit from the local community officers or any other contact just an auto acknowledgment. I didn't see who these yobs are and so can't give any info to the Police. OK its an old Banger and I have always had Cars that have many years on them, Mercs mainly. When my car was "lost in France" during covld I bought a one owner Toyota Corolla but couldn't find the comfort of the Lexus, so sold it and bought a GS300. Both these cars cost me money with new Brake discs, Calipers and tryes and I can't now do this work myself, so knowing the LS (had it ten years) with December MOT, I don't want to replace it. Only 150k on the clock and a joy when we drive the 600 miles to SW France several time a year. Unsure if I'll be able to do this as health has taken a nose dive.
  8. Its been painfully slow, partly due to the appalling weather me being on the Sea Front and having little energy. If we get a few good days I may be able to work on it. The Canvas with screen has been made up. I have until the 12th April to decide if to throw in the towel and claim or see if there is an option to keep albeit with a claim payout. Funny thing is that Saga sent a renewal notice for £472.01 (previous three year fixed at £342.91.) Seems they may still insure thirty year old Cars. Unlikely perhaps if I claim, I suspect.
  9. Another great singer has passed away. Eric Carman of "Hungry Eyes" and "all by myself" fame. Not put a link but can find on the Tube
  10. Malc, there are two potential donors on F/B marketplace. One has been on there twenty weeks and the other six days. Neither has replied to my enquiry. Frankly, I was just very lucky that the guy in Northampton offered to take out the Glass. Both thse are in the Midlands and I doubt they are intereted in the task, hence no reply. Frankly, what would be the point when these low lifers are likely to have a go again? Its cost me £450 so far and I'm not too sure if to approach the insurers for a write off value etc. It will likely increase premiums for all in the direct area. So, I'm going to try the Cabriolet idea. Impressed by Chris's replacement Screen in plastic but wrong time of year to try to copy. Will update with photo when finally complete the project. Don't hold your breath, in case I decide to just write it off.
  11. We had a local Police Station here at Walton but it closed down several years ago as did the referred one at Thorpe Le Soken. Don't for some reason come under Clacton? I'd booked a blood test at Clacton for today at 5.50pm and wife and I set out in this appalling weather thinking and hoping that the temporary Tarp Screen would stay in place. Puddles five foot from kerb, torrential rain and the sound of rain falling from Telephone wires & glass fragments unnerved me after just three miles down the road. Clacton Hospital is seven miles and the return journey so, turned back home as didn't want a swimming pool in the boot/ back seat. Quite a bit of condensation as the day the glass was fitted and then broken in evening, it rained nearly all that night, so... Heater did work pretty well to clear the windscreen, but I bottled it and cancelled the appointment once home. Hey ho, lifes rich patina of fun and challenges. Illegitimi non Carborundum as they say!
  12. My short lived Rear screen didn't last twenty four hours. I had a restless night and the neighbour telling my wife "sorry I have bad news for you" I heard whilst still in bed and guessed the worst. Postman tells me that a Glass Door at a Community Centre has been smashed and a Garden Wall knocked down in our Millenium Square. Have I heard from the Rozzers? No. Have I seen a patrol Car? - no. Vandalism running rife. Just wonder what will happen when I have replaced the Glass with my "Cabriolet" style rear screen? A different Window smashed or a blade taken to the Canvas? Its very disheartening to say the least. S'pose I'll have to invest in CCTV rather than the Dummy I have on the House.
  13. Thanks David, in answer, I don't know. I have been told that thay have egged a house on a new Estate and caused damage elsewhere. Why they have chosen my Car I haven't a clue. Being on the Sea Front with Gardens opposite with Seats, they do congregate ( this word always remind me of my Headmaster - "you Boys don't congregate" ) where in darkness they sometimes sit or mess around. I've never approached them or watched them.
  14. Totally agree with you Roy. Which party (other than Trump in the US of A) is saying that they will veto the intro of Cent Banque Dig C's - none of them as far as I can tell. My MP sent me some stupid stock reply in answer to my concerns over the Worst Health Authority which fouled up last time, giving itself global powers to not to be challenged by anyone on its mandates. Our P.M. who has made a grand investment into the forthcoming Medical internventions which dear old Bill G is possibly planning, says nothing to oppose. The mandate will likely be enforced by A! stopping peoples Bank Accounts if their "Digital Wallet" (EU terminology) shows we have not complied". Our freedom which the young Harari likens to that of an Octopus is on the line, I fear.
  15. I'll give the neighbours time to recover from their sea journey from the Hook of Holland especially as they've been in Germany almost a month. I haven't told Chris the upsetting news but just referred him to the Thread. He may not be aware of the change in circumstances. I have purchased today Anthracite Grey Waterproof Canvas and a perspex panel. Am considering using plastic trim fittings like those used to secure the boot linings. Will need to drill. Can't say when I'll acutally do the job, or if I'll do the job, but intention is there. Bonding primer and possibly ordinary domestic silicone (3M costs a fortune) will be used with each section being stretched and drying before moving to another section. Anyway, didn't sleep a wink last night so hoping I can forget the problem until purchases arrive. Got until the 29th Feb if I'm going to reclaim 11 months tax. Paid for 12 months the day before problem first discovered. Ouch!
  16. I didn't have it set up with the rear view / vibration- not too au fait with these things. Chinoisorie instructions usually baffle me. Malc you are right it seems that they don't like something a bit special. My dilemma is what will happen if I replace it with a an S Class. Will the same thing happen? Rozzers have been informed but unlikely to take an interest, though my Neighbour opposite side has CCTV set up but is away in Germany until Wednesday. On his return, say Friday I'll ask if he can look back. on the recordings. Happens at night and they probably wear Hoodies though I've never clocked the little group, only heard voices from within. Not been out during the two weeks as walking is difficult and tiring. Been thinking of two options. Possibly a 3D Printer could maybe could print a plastic Screen? Or, I can cover the area with a heavy duty Canvas with a Window of Perspex. Affixing is the problem. This LOL https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203537995090?itmmeta=01HQ09EPVW0V40DMEHK3F1PJGF&hash=item2f63cf5552:g:2foAAOSwJOtlsRyM&itmprp=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwDnYfjbKJIgEexaTkjzn5C4btM4IraPw2xZsbgdF2%2Fsl8M8M0XGhVFobvBwzEP71zLS2xtLjK2myyjmRfMpdvXy%2Fc%2Fs8VNvC3dfbwcW6Zk%2FLY0d9SPjjzuXBfhHT1DLEv1eEHdTUXGeOxV%2BY7U4mfS4%2BYLHozHhRXdsEN1FZc0aFAVnGO2JDezc%2FxYb0cIt09t3mODArRcIWzJmn317hJGsvFNCQTHffoynVeBIjoeQkZjqpCeLyYXv1beYhTjlmQQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABlBMUILuuom4Yw
  17. Regret to report that my good luck ran out the same evening the Glass was fitted. Was awoken this morning by the neighbour after a night of rain to be told that yobs had targeted the screen again and it was broken with both sides shattered. We've lived in this house for 38 years and not had vandalism before. Haven't spoken to any youths or given the evil eye to anyone, but the culprit/s having seen that the tarp was no longer on the screen, sometime last night attacked the Car again. There has been vandalism in the Town recently. I have advanced prostate cancer and Lmphodema and being "Sunset strip" in age see this as the end of the Car. Can't do it all again even if possible. Someone has taken exception to a Classic Car and so I'll speak to the Insurers but if anyone wants the Car for parts then I'll let you know a price after the Insurers give me a value. Really disappointed at this. Was looking forward to driving it today.
  18. Bearing in mind this Screen had been in a Farmyard with crud all over it, its come up very well. Not tried the Demister but continuity was checked. I cleaned the crud but the fitter took off all the bonding and it took him about an hour to fit. Looks like it has extra connection point to a line that goes nowhere?
  19. Delighted to report that I have just had fitted a s/h rear windscreen. Didn't want to raise my hopes until it was "in situ". My thanks to Paul Frost who suggested that there may be one on Facebook Marketplace. Found an ad which had been on for 24 weeks and the guy was just about to smash the rear screen as he wanted to use the body for stock car racing. Just in time and he offered to take it out of the remains of the Car. It was soemthing I couldn't do. Also my friend wo collected my Lexus from France a couple of years back also lived in Northampton and agreed to collect it and bring it down to Essex. Today it has been fitted. It has a glass mark Toyota Automotive Temperlite. Saved th old Girl from the Knackers Yard.
  20. Good point Malc. This comment on the subject from the guy who collected a Rear Screen for me from Northampton and also brought my Lexus back from France a couple of years ago with LPG in his Range Rover " Shell stopped selling LPG a couple of years ago with the removal of LPG at 206 filling stations. They had a company, Autogas Ltd, that was a joint venture between Shell and Calor. The two of them had a falling out so the company was dissolved and all Shell stations were told that they could no longer supply LPG and to take the pumps out. Those owned by Shell themselves did just that but a few of the Shell branded franchises have carried on selling it as if Shell cannot supply they are free to go elsewhere. " He couldn't get filled up at Morrisons and nearest being Sudbury (40 miles)he was told that they had none as it was priority for consumer Gas bottles. Only advantage is that he has a Crit Air sticker Classe 1 for Paris and other French cities with LPG
  21. Importing from USA unlikely to find a seller willing and what chance it arrives in one piece. What are the options for total loss do insurers usually offer. Is it a price and they take the Car or a price and you can negotiate a reduction for the standard Scrappie value and you keep the Car? If the latter (and I make a plastic rear screen) would the insurance which is valid until April still cover the Car. I'm with Saga fully comp which covers glass but don't have a clue as to what insurers usually do in such case. Anyone know?
  22. I spoke to the insurers and told them Autoglass Windscreens came up with a blank after searching for a replacement. They suggested I phone Nationwide Windscreens who answered as "Saga" and said they have changed their name and are supplied by Autoglass Windscreens. So, back to Saga who then suggested I should contact a local Garage which I suggested was pointless. They then said to contact my local Lexus Distributors. I said this was pointless as Autoglass will have already approached Lexus to find out any stock item somewhere. So, I wasted twenty minutes of time being shunted back and forth from HO to Ipswich to Colchester Lexus and eventually a guy kept me waiting for ten minutes and said they couldn't help. So, back to Saga on Monday for options.
  23. Likely do today as Autoglass reported back that they couldn't find a replacement. Will find out the options as first time I've had such a situation.
  24. Autoglass had no luck in tracing a replacement. This is an interesting DIY video with lots of tips. Didn't know you could buy Plastic Chisels. Assumed removal would be with a Cheese cutter wire. Does anyone know if the rear panels hiding the electrical connections to the demister just prise off or are they screwed? So wet today I wasn't going to take a look. £75 to have autoglass come and crash wrap the rear. No thanks I've already done it but I suppose taking out the glass will be bit of a job as it flies everywhere.
