  1. I have seen images of the Aluminium Engine parts Paint powder coated and this would have prevented the corrosion. They do look nice. Not got time or inclination to go this route. Just brushed off the loose powder.
  2. Is a Car better left out in the open than left in an open Garage or Car port for any period of time? I was surprised by the amount of Oxidation that had occured in the Engine Bay after my Lexus was stored in France for fourteen months during lockdown. The Garage admittedly was an open ended Garage but I imagined that with the exception of rust on the Discs (and any rodent infiltration) that the Engine would not suffer any consequences of its imprisonment. I was wrong, as the photo shows The Good news was that upon connecting the Negative terminal to the battery and a charge, the Car started immediately. Had the Car been left outside would it have fared better? When I kept an MR2 in a Garage (with doors) in the UK for six years it started OK with a bit of fresh petrol and after oiling the pots pre firing. However when I went to sell the Car some six months later, unbeknown to me, (the oil had looked OK on the stick) the Car had a Head Gasket failure. When asked is everything is OK after taking the buyer for a test drive, imagine my chagrin when saying “yes” and looking at the Oil Filler Cap only to find the dreaded Mayonnaise!! I sold the Car to the gent for half the price and eight years later it is still on the road after repair. Any Car left for a period of time may also suffer the Head Gasket issue, I’m guessing. Only other issue was very Rusty Discs which were almost new when the LS was parked up, Have left them on and they brake as well as the Car did before its “holiday”. Rear drilled and slotted are taking longer to look “bright”. Pitting is making no difference and life is too short to have them re-cut. Today the Car is having the opposite side Control Arm replaced.
  3. Thanks John and Malc. I have a spare rear strut and two Bushes if anyone needs them. The Bushes are a puzzle as they seem to be milled in the centre circle but I could not find matching Spacers to fit the milled pattern and my Mechanic left the original Bush in place. Will probably do the same for t'other side in due course..
  4. I've not looked in the engine bay but the item on ebay says does not fit. ?? 5. Well, from the 1st February I've been "back on the Road again" .The joy of driving has returned. Not yet had the other side rear Strut replaced as had health and personal loss issues to deal with making a definate booking date for the work difficult. The GS is with a new Owner up in Nottingham. Its a good car and can be improved with the parts I supplied for Cambelt change and Radio replacement.
  6. My Daughter bought me a Whole Lambs Skin for Christmas and I haven't a clue what to do with it, however my wife tells me she has got plans? It came from IKEA and may well cut up into two if long haired Mats if that is what you are looking for. Comes in White, all the way from Argentina! No idea as to what it cost. Check out their website? Just a thought.
  7. Tut tut, name dropping, John? Not being an Opera buff I'd not heard the name but having goo'd it he really was highly thought of. Listened to his rendition of Nessun Dorma. Very good!
  8. Nice idea for the Ashtray. I recently bought the below which was the last available and saves a lot of hassle (so I believe) in installing a Single Din on my GS300. Instead of rerouting the Cable from the Amplifier and splicing etc I will only need to disconnect it and plug in this extension lead which then routes back to the rear of the unit and connects to a large double block which is prewired to a smaller Double block which fits into the Sony Xplod. Job done - well when I get around to it.! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273860080043
  9. I was quoted around £300 and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised when asked to pay £300 which included the VAT. A pass, clearing the MOT rust fail points but leaving still a list of other possibly over zealous examination of rust weaknesses to be looked at during warmer times. Car on SORN pending end of Tax on the GS and likely disposal.
  10. Don't tease me Malc I'm still recovering from having to get up at 9 O'clock this Morning to recover the Car from the Garage after the work to pass the MOT !
  11. The LS400 starts without a difficulty and locking by key is OK but locking by Fob button is not working. I have tried the six minutes with ignition "on" and extracating the ignition key, the light does not appear. Close the Door and lock with the key and the Immobiliser light comes on and stays without flicker for twenty seconds and then starts to flicker on and off. Try the key fob "unlock" button but it doesn't work no matter where I point it. Not tried to enter the Boot without first unlocking but suppose thats the only way to find out if the Car is truly "immobilised" Neighbours won't be pleased. Any other way perhaps?
  12. I have a spare DIN Mount Radio Provision with pocket. Ref is 99-8156 This is single DIN and for a Lexus 1990-1994. Possibly will fit the space but maybe not. Check for other part references. Nearly all are imported from the States.
  13. What sort of Cable is that Kevin has used? Reminds me of ancient House wiring. Stupin Q. you did have battery connected and ignition set to ACC. Sometimes we (or I) do forget the most basic things. Coming back from Abroad many years ago my 500SEC wouldn't start and I called out the on site Battery charger guy. Only whe he arrived did I remember I had one of those push in Immobiliser plugs. Doh!
  14. A couple of possibly useless thoughts. If the 1996 Car had a seperate Amplifier (not in a 1993) and CD Player in the Glove Box does the Cartridge eject? Power I believe comes from the Radio? Second thought, was the Antenna plugged in as I imagine this is an essential earth?
  15. Ooops put this reply on the wrong thread. My GS300 is likely up for sale from tomorrow depending on the MOT of my returned Lexus LS400. PM me if you would like the honest details which I have prepared but yet to advertise. Don't need two Cars. (Just done a 1200 miles journey in it as you may have read alsewhere)

  17. Can't help but first and only thought is, did you buy the Car locally and did the previous owner keep back a key?
  18. That "mod" seems to be on a Nakashimi model given the final photo of the rear. My '93 Pioneer I found that the Cage could not be opened in my bid to replace the "Rubber Band" which I assume is the cause of my Tape Deck not working. Can you get to your Tape Deck "band" in the later model, Howard?
  19. The "Beast" arrived back after its 600 mile jounrey on a four wheel Trailer behind a 3.8l Range Rover which has over 230k on the clock and is run on LPG. A miserable journey raining all the way and glad it was not me who had the task. Too blustery to go out and remove a few things from the Boot and will have to drive as carefully as possible to my Mechanic on Thursday and he will replace the rear Strut. He will also do the nearside possibly but I don't have a replacement Bush or Bolts (expected pre Christmas) if he manages to remove the bolts and existing Bush without wrecking them. Doubtful, so another job later.
