  1. Its really noticeable in that thread 1 Million Mile Lexus put up by Bluesman. In Australia I've seen a sort of blanket on the Mercedes Dash put there to obliterate reflection and also stop cracking due to the Suns intense heat. I always put a large cardboard screen blind to cover my dash this time of the year (not got a clue what happened the previous 21 years of its ilfe when it escaped damage!) but it also stops the Dash Wood kit that I added from getting scorched. I don't have a problem with reflection on this light browny/taup colour Dash so what colour is yours- or is it the Bonnet colour which actually gets reflected. White being the worst?
  2. There's one for an ls400 for sale on preloved dot com. They are very expensive on ebay if imported
  3. Beauty is in the eye etc, but I personally think that the mk3 and mk4 in styling was a backward step to the Mk 1 and Mk2. Its that front wing that looks slab like without the crease. It became a fashion with Mercedes which Lexus clearly copied to iron out the crease, but look at todays Cars and the crease is certainly back in fashion.. Looks being 90% of consideration in my book, and the non intervention engine so if the Cam belt goes you don't wreck the engine being the other 10%) Daresay performance doesn't match of course but as I say Beauty etc etc etc
  4. Mike,  Can you let me know how much the Cat flange and y pipe replacement down at Hove cost you please? Don't want it added to the thread as am trying to get a more local to me firm, quote me a price and may well give them a link to the thread to prove I'm not bull** as to the price the Morcombe firm is willing to do the job for.

    Thanks

    Stuart

Hi Stuart, All they did on mine was weld a new piece of stainless steel over the cracked y area and that cost £45. Only took them about 30 mins. Mike.

Thanks Mike - I've had a local Powerflow agree to do the job for same price as Morecambe which is great.  Will get back to all when job is done as to how good the work is etc. Would be good if this thread is useful for quoting by other Members in their areas. Will be nice to have a super quiet exhaust.

      Regards

  5. Just back from France today with flanges blowing despite Wynns sealant applied pre trip. So when recovered may take a trip North sometime. Quick Q. presuemably they cut out the Lambda sensor mounts from the original pipes and just welded them in to a cut out area in the new pipes? Save the problem of unscrewing and/or disconnecting the wiring? Is that how it is done? How are you finding the quietness of your LS ?
  6. I know that situation only too well. Perhaps leave it for ten minutes after going through the gears, before checking the level.
  7. Oh dear! The trouble is, that all the parts you want from a donor car are likely to be just as shot as the parts that you want to replace. OK Wheels /tyres maybe not, but mechanical parts. I liked you comment "started to lose the love" - been there several times but still smitten after last 2.5k mile trip. Off shortly on another 1200 return trip to Le continent where my heart goes out to the people
  8. Please change your vehicle model on your personal data as I've lost track as to which Car you now own. You've had so many. It makes sense to replace the condensor and all pipework back to the compressor and see if this fixes the problem. You won't be able to get pipework from Rock auto of course, and daresay it will cost an arm and a leg via Lexus. Perhaps Amayama route? I speak only as one who luckily hasn't had this problem - yet. Touch wood. Good luck
  9. Intrigued as to why the Petrol Cap door is a different colour? Can't see the bonnet from your photo's to judge if same as Cap door, but personally I wouldn't have a total respray but just match the two parts to the Car. Amazed at how good the colour of my Car is after 23 years. The quality of the spray job must be far superior to any aftermarket spray unless you are going to spend a fortune. I've only washed myCar once since buying it and still looks deep and glossy. (Also love the colour)
  10. Which is pretty cheap. If you put it in the basket and follow through with your postcode it will show the import total price. No need to complete. Not sure whihc is right for your Car. I wish I'd checked this out before buying a set of springs.
  11. I looked on Rock and for my car year a complete assembly to import cost around £118. Some might say that the OEM Strut even though old, will outlast any cheap replacement? Too late for me to revise my thinking.
  12. Thats annoying. You may want to check this out as how to replace the spring yourself. I do worry as I have two t'bay replacement springs and that spring is not what I'd expect an original to look like. Maybe I'd better stick with the rusty originals until I have no option but to change. Daresay Lexus quote is Exhoribtant?
  13. Not cheap in relation to prices paid as quoted on this thread. The older LS has a double Pollen filter so bound to be a bit more expensive. I wouldn't even consider asking Lexus for their price.
  14. That last point is interesting. Have you real experience of it softening hard rubber? I've been searching for an alternative to immersing a rubber boot in Wintergreen and Rubbing Alcohol (if I could find these products) as a way to soften the Carb Air inlet boot that fits my Yamaha Twin. How is the stuff applied?
  15. My Denso from Rock cost $46 so not cheap. Only parts you need worry about not fitting are pipework, I imagine.
  16. Amazed at how tidy the job looks in comparison to the strange (looks like its been bent with pliars) OE Y pipe. Is that queue round the block yet?
  17. It has an MOT after a bit of work. Can't understand those side repeater position? Are they like that on RHD Cars for the year? Only a fail and pass shown on DVLA so must have been imported recently. S'pose the dents may pull out with a bit of effort. Never look good, however Not a lot of miles away from me but don't think I'll be buying for my next trip to France.
  18. What a fantastic job - and price! No mention of welding on their website - was it a favour? If they seem happy to do this job for others then maybe a couple of days in Morecombe later in the year will be on the cards. Did you stay on site while they did the job? How long did it take?
  19. Probably mentioned it before but was at a Lidl just outside Confolens in France and a Scottish elderly gentleman and his wifecame across and he offered to swap me his S Type Jaguar for my Car. He was so taken with it that I let him sit in the Drivers seat. To see his face light up was a real treat.
  20. Its easy to comment in hindsight to a situation but when you paid your £700 I am assuming that they did not give you an invoice with a breakdown of what they did and how they arrived at the figure. Probably too late to ask now but bear it in mind as an invoice is a statement of fact as to the charges they have made for their labour,, parts and VAT if added. It also identifies the party (usually unless its a nudge nudge no VAT wink wink) and therefore makes suing more likely to be successful. I once went to a local Garage with a Merc which used to cut out. I took a Brand new fuel pump and left it with them. A few days later I discovered they'd parked the Car in the street and closed for the weekend leaving the fuel pump dripping fuel on to the road. I had to put a bucket with sand under the car and pray nobody dropped a ciggy butt. They said they had fixed the Car and I told them they had not. When I returned It only got a hundred yards away before it died on me. They then told me to call back in a few days and once again said it was fixed and wanted £250 or wouldn't let the Car go. I paid them and barely got it home before it died again. I regretted not insisting on an invoice and later discovered they had not replaced the fuel pump at all. Asked for it back they said they couldn't find it. I did resolve the issue which was actually a faulty Relay but I resented paying them to do something which frankly they didn't do. The Garage changed hands a week or so later and they were gone!!
  21. I liked Maxxis on my W140. When I changed the wheels on the Lexus recently I got Maxxis for the front and Nexens for the rear. Happy with the arrangement so far. Will maybe switch depending on wear, at some time.
  22. Is the Gold one for sale at Lichfield one of those three? Only 113k miles but has not been MOT'd for over a year and rust seems to be the trouble. - perhaps it was a car that suffered in those floods a couple of years back. Lots of MOT advisories when last passed, in 2013 I think. Is on ebay with photo's six hundred. Looks nice but the underside and no doubt other things?
  23. Do you only do short runs? Have you used injector cleaner lately? ps What brand of Rad did you purchase, so others know what not to buy. For my 400 I have a Nissens which I bought off ebay and yet to decide if to fit. Seemed to have good feed back on the product. Made in Denmark/Sweden or somewhere.
