Great thanks for that. I do need the ECU and switch as later switches again are incompatible but until I get an ECU that power up I can’t prove the switch is ok, so any known to be working spares are good to get hold of. I have also posted this on the LPG site already but it’s not a very active site as the number of LPG users seems to be very few and diminishing. I know that I have seen a few RX’s for sale with LPG over the years and hoped I might possibly find spares from a scrapped or crashed one, albeit a long shot. I will try the guy that you have mentioned. Thanks again.

Hi Herbie, The faulty ECU’s don’t power up properly. I had an LPG guy come and put his computer on the system. I bought another one in the hope that it would work but it didn’t. Because the ECU’s are integrated into the engine management system, you can’t remove them from the car even if they don’t work, as it stops the car working. If I could find a repairer then the spare one could be done leaving the car still usable. The system is old and therefore the ECU’s are obsolete and new ones are incompatible. Buying second-hand from Eastern Europe seems a bit risky and rarely do they state that it is fully functional ECU. I may end up having to partly or fully replace the system, if it’s economically viable, or just continue to run on petrol but obviously if a good ECU is out there somewhere that would be preferable and a lot cheaper! Thanks

Hi folks, I am trying to hunt down the above for my 2004 RX. The LPG was installed in 2008. If anyone has the above items or knows of possible whereabouts please let me know. This would be very much appreciated. I have 2 u/s ones and have tried to find someone to repair them but without success. If anyone knows of a repairer that would be great. Sometimes they appear for sale on the net but usually abroad which I’m not sure that I could trust. Please note that it has to be a 6 cyl. spec one. thanks Paul.

Identity of component on engine.

Yes thanks Steve, that looks like the offending article with the little solenoid valve beside it. That identifies it but the question now is what exactly does the vacuum switching system do? -
Hi folks, I recently changed a pipe manifold for the auto box oil cooling and unwittingly had accidentally disconnected a small rubber pipe on a solenoid valve attached to a cylindrical component on the bottom of the engine at the front on the nearside ( as per the pics ). This led to a ticking noise when the engine was running. I have now put the pipe back on and all is ok but I am curious as to what the component is. Any ideas please?

Anyone know what the small solenoid valve is at the bottom front of the engine just behind the front X member, slightly to right of centre. It has 2 6mm plastic pipes to it. I have just changed the pipe attached to the X member that’s near to it, which is a manifold for the auto box cooling. The solenoid is chattering and maybe because I have the underslung covers off I can hear it, which normally perhaps I wouldn’t. I don’t think it’s anything to do with what I have done changing the manifold or that I have damaged it in the process. Any ideas please? Thanks in advance.

What threads for nuts and bolts etc. are used by Japanese cars? Is it the same as Euro S. I. standard or a mixture? I also saw people complaining about the poor reversing lights, putting the rear fog lights on helps a bit. Thanks.

Hi Loafer, I'm old enough to remember the early Superman films with Lex Luther, hence the play on words, with mi-spelling to boot. Regards Loofa -

Thanks guys for the info. The car is 04 series 2, I need to update the profile. It would seem to be the belt and I do also have good spare alternator off a low mileage car, just in case. Does the belt drive just the alternator or A/C PAS too? Can you buy the Lexus workshop manuals? I will buy a new Toyota belt to ensure quality. Does anyone else have an LPG car as I would like to chat about that also, my system has a Tartarini one. Thanks again, Paul. -
Happy New Year to everyone and thanks for all the useful info on the site. I have an intermittent squealing coming from the engine when starting. It doesn’t seem to be temperature or damp related and occasionally squeals a couple of miles into a journey but never beyond that. The car is an 04 RX300 with 100k on the clock. The cam belt and auxiliary belts were changed at 80k. The battery is in good shape. I’ve tried starting with all electrical extras turned off, so just starting the engine only and it still does, but intermittently as previously said, so not consistent. Are the alternator and a/c pulleys fixed or clutched and are there any tensioners? My car is LPG and the system parts block off easy access to the alternator and belts. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.
