  1. Jacques will your friend only make 5 or do you mean batches, or multiples of 5 ? Does anyone know if a 1998 MK4 is the same Y piece as the MK3 if it is then I could be in the market, not that I have a problem at the moment as my Mechanic welded up some small holes in it last year, but that won't last forever. Brian
  2. hope your not going to let that nice white LS go to lexus chap, it would be marked for the rest of it's life as a " DUDley " special. My LS is same colour green "mica green" as the one in post one, but the mouldings are the same as the body colour, which I think was the new colour schemes for the Mk 4s. Brian
  3. That is what the coded letters mean IIRC means " If I Recall Correctly " and AFAIAA means " As Far As I Am Aware "
  4. Hi dendonc Not a smaller engine just slightly less horses. IIRC If I recall correctly AFAIAA As Far As I Am Aware
  5. Looks like a good one on the face of it, But I would be a bit concerned if it's been parked on grass for a long period as the under side would need good inspection. It;s the same as caravans when parked on grass they tend to rust more than if parked on tarmac. The ground gets wet and then evaporation sends the moisture upwards, the dampness can't escape very easily so starts the rusting process. Just my take on it Jim
  6. Hi Matthew Mine does the same, notice it more when there is a car behind with its lights on, it's just condensation. I am the same as you only normally under 100 miles a week. I did see last summer when giving it a bit of an Italian Tune Up, loads of dirty cruddy smoke came out, chickened out and took my foot off :) Brian
  7. Brian, Just found my old posting http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/80163-self-levelling-headlights/page-2 As you can see it is real Heath Robinson job (just go to bottom of the post), and there appears to be no room for adjustment on this linkage anywhere, so this is why I assume my garage twiddled something else, not that I noticed when I was fitting replacement bulbs a bit later on. Thanks Pete Looks good and saved you £70, The bracket I have in my mind didn't look quite like that, it did have a slot in it for the bottom bolt. It must have been something else I had looked at but can't remember, (it's an age thing). Brian
  8. Hi Pete thanks for that, the only reason I thought they were adjusted from the bracket end was that I recall seeing pictures of the bracket, and the adjuster is mounted on a slot in the bracket and not just a bolt hole. Brian
  9. Hi Chasdad My headlights on dip beam are blueish but on main beam are normal yellowish, think mine may need adjustment as seem a little low. Does anyone know if they can be adjusted on the self leveling mechanism or rear suspension, and if so is it adjusted up or down? Anyway Chasdad I thought your LS400 was up for sale, I think with all the questions you are asking of late you are thinking of keeping it. Brian
  10. would that not show up at MOT time, as vin number is sent to vosa for MOT registering?
  11. Hi Brian I totally agree, I would like to see 14.4 but my mechanic friend seems to think to quote his words " it can sometimes do a battery good to run it flat--same as the battery in your drill ) I can see where he is coming from,. I asked him to get me a battery but he said No, wait and see how it goes first, if you turn the toys off more often it'll probably be OK. I mentioned the fact that the battery should be fully charged from my scotland trip. His reply was that I had told him the weather was bad on the return journey so Headlights on, Wipers on, Heater blasting, Rear heated window and last but not least heated seat on, so he says the battery is entitled to throw a wobble after that. No matter he will sort me out what ever happens.
  12. Well Monday morning opened car with key fob as normal, put key into ignition????? no steering wheel movement, no light on dash--- Nothing at all. Battery completely dead not even enough power to activate central locking. Went and borrowed my mechanic friends booster pack, fired straight off, took car to him he checked and said battery was OK charging, checked under load and still OK. Checked with a multi meter and established that it was charging at 13.8v and he would have expected 14.4v but one of the guys that works with him is an auto electrician and said 13.8v may be OK, some older vehicles work at around 13.8v. Under load it was dropping slightly and picking back up straight away. We established that I had to turn the heated seats and rear window demister off more often, and turn off the auto headlights as they fire up as soon as the key is inserted, turned the heater blower down a bit also. Taking more out of the battery than putting in on short journeys. Been OK since (fingers crossed)
  13. Hi Chasdad When you say Silver one, is it Reg R415 CET. cos that is not silver, it's a really nice shade of green and yes it looks good but so does yours.
  14. Hi Barry Try this link if it does not work, look at the thread I got it from on club Lexus site. Brian Attached Files ss001l99.pdf http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/57248-what-adjustments-can-be-made-the-dealer-on-a-98-ls400.html
  15. I like big cars in white, and the LS400 really looks the part in white. Yes if looking for another and had the choice of White or a dark colour I would lean toward the white one. Having said that I had a Diamond white mk2 Granada years ago (late 70s) and every panel got dented or scraped by other drivers with just one dent in the front valance that was my fault. I came to the conclusion that other drivers cannot see white vehicles as readily as darker ones, never had a white one since. Brian
  16. Hi SHELLDRAKE If you go back to the site and look at the top there is a button to click for feedback, there you will find a dropdown menu and one option deals with informing them of missing detaild/vehicle history.
  17. That link didn't seem to work, this one should as I have just tried it in google. If it does not work by clicking on it, just cut and paste into google. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ls400.htm
  18. Few years back used to drive a Cosworth Granada, beast of a motor, could eat a set of Toyo's in 7000 mile, could kick the back end out on a straight road. What's the Cossie got to do with the LS400 you might ask, well not a lot, but whilst looking for web pages on LS came across this interesting article, says it has not been updated since 2005 but still mentions the Mark 4 models. some of you may have seen this before but newer member like me still search for more info. Brian http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ls400.htm
  19. Hi Chasdad There are some good late LS400s still around, but if they are advertised you have to be quick as usually get snapped up quickly. Even though I have a good one I still keep looking, saw this one on gumtree and quickly someone left a deposit on it. it does look tidy. don't know if the link will work. https://www.gumtree.com/p/lexus/price-dropped-1999-lexus-ls400-pearl-white-low-mileage-satnav-2keys/1147782357 I got mine from a car sales pitch in birmingham whilst browsing for a replacement 4x4 and came out with a LS400, best days window shopping ever. Keep looking one will turn up Brian
  20. Hi Brian We are indeed talking about the outside temp display, the word outside and numerical part was missing I repeat was missing. Trip to shop few minutes ago started motor, pressed ac on still no display changed airflow directions a couple of times, nothing. Then decided to reduce cabin temp from hot setting and if by magic display back to normal, so it does work all the time regardless of ac on/off. I have now noticed that when vehicle is started clock display comes on first then all 3 temp displays work together, which probably means that it is linked to the cabin temp relays?/circuit. Very happy that gremlins have left me (for now). Brian
  21. Keith I do mainly short trips (like 1 mile round trip for paper run) and I get around 18-20mpg so I would think that 13.5 is pretty low, but I do use Tesco Momentum fuel costs appx 5p per litre more. I have done a couple of trips to Scotland during December The last trip using momentum petrol got to Dufftown by Elgin 485 miles with just under quarter of a tank left, computer reading 34.3 mpg. Filled up with ordinary fuel at a local garage for return journey and I mean filled until it was running back out of filler neck. journey home was bad weather heavy rain strong winds, fuel light came on whilst on M6 near west brom carried on to home display reading low fuel when I filled up. On the way down from Scotland I saw my average mpg steadily dropping to 31.8 mpg I don't know if the difference was in the fuel quality or the weather conditions or both. Brian
  22. Hi Mark Thanks for your reply, the climate is off, been off since travelling from Elgin in Scotland on the 20th Dec but I think my temp display was still working. I will get the battery checked on Monday when my mechanic returns to work. Although I haven't had any incidents with low battery or any starting problems. It was down to appx -3 last night here, wondered if that was anything to do with it? Brian
