  1. Hi guys, Im toying with the idea of making my is200 into a drift car, Ive taken it to a couple of local drift days over the winter as a bog standard car with original springs and an original sport lsd thats done 130,000 miles and to be honest as a bog standard car I was really impressed by it. Obviously the basic things like stiffer & lower springs and a locked diff will help no end, but it could also do with some more power. Are there any other engines that bolt up to the standard 6 speed is200 gearbox? I may be able to get a 3 litre engine from a GS300 Lexus pretty cheap from someone I know, but would that fit the is200 gearbox? I know the bis 400 V8 needs a toyota supra manual gearbox, and so does the sorer turbo ones, but what about the 3 litre gs300 engine? I know I can turbo the standard engine, but this needs lots of upgraded fuel stuff and ecu remaps and been told you dont get much of a power gain either so thinking of finding a bigger engine instead. Any ideas if there are any other engines that fit the gearbox? Nick.
  2. Yeah both pipes to the matrix get hot, so I guess its matrix change time then! Although I dont have any water on the inside the cabin. When one of my dads cars heater matrix went, it soaked the carpets on the inside. I do know someone who is stripping an is200 for racing so I'll see if he can get the matrix out of his. Thanks for the advice.
  3. It seems to get to half way on the temp gauge as normal and never gets any higher. I even took the car on a local drift track at the weekend and even with some thrashing it only went a little over half which is usual for any drift car really. The bottom rad pipe does get warm eventually, just seems to take longer than it should. It seems like there is air in the system, but just doing the usual thing of running the engine to temp with the rad cap off dosnt seem to do the trick for some reason.
  4. I actually havent heard the engine fan kick in at all to be honest. Even leaving on tick over after a drive. The only fans that seem to kick in are the aircon fans when you switch that on. If you rev the engine it seems to get abit warmer then goes back to normal when you go back to idle. Surely if it was thermostat, the pipes into the matrix wouldnt get hot? And if it was water pump, the engine would run hot?
  5. Hi guys, need some ideas on the heating system on my is200 sport please. Basically the heaters only get 'luke warm' even on a long drive. Its not like they are stone cold, it warms up abit, just nowhere near as hot as they should be. I have drained the radiator and re-filled with antifreeze, also tried to wash through the heater matrix. It started to flush through some 'muddy' water, then it ran clear. We tried to back fill the matrix in a bid to stop any air locks, then ran the engine to top up the rad which expelled a few air bubbles. But the heaters are the same as before. The radiator holds water level ok, there are no leaks and the car runs ok with no over heating or anything. All the pipes get hot, including both pipes in the matrix. The only thing I have noticed is the bottom radiator pipe dosnt get warm until you have gone for a pretty long drive. So could it be the thermostat or water pump not working properly? I also hear a water 'gurgling' noise from the matrix when you go round corners sometimes, like there is still air in the system. Any tips on a better way to bleed the air out of the system? All the interior vents blow the same temp air, as Ive been told sometimes the passenger side can be warmer than the drivers side, but mine are all the same. Only just warm, no where near as hot as they should be. Any help would be great. Nick.
  6. Thanks for the info, yeah thats what I thought about the stereo. The number on it is 13902. I found one on ebay and won the auction but the seller never sent it so Im in the process of getting a refund although I'd rather have the cd player! I dont really want to retro fit a different stereo as I'd like to keep the original amp as the sound quality of component speakers through an amp is much better. Unless there is a to re-wire the standard amp to the external amp sockets on a seperate stereo is there? Im not sure the exact build date or first registration without looking at the logbook but its generally pretty clean and original. Ive just put a Japspeed exhaust system on it and possibly thinking of lowering it too but it depends if I end up using it as a drift car or not really.
  7. Hi everyone, Ive recently bought a 1999 T reg IS200 and the CD changer has the Error 3 code which I believe is terminal for the changer. Ive been trying to find a replacement but all Im finding are newer ones with a slightly different button layout and different code number on the front. Will they still work without changing all the wiring? Or do I need one with the same code as my old one? Is there a list of which are compatable and which are not anywere? Any help would be good. Thanks. Nick.
  8. Where are the trigger wheels? On the pump, or on the sensors on the discs?
  9. Turns out to be the ABS pump, or more likely the sensors on it telling the abs to kick in too soon. If you disconnect the abs pump, the brakes are perfect. Obviously you lose ABS and traction control but at least there are no issues with the actual brakes. Anyone know if you can just change the ABS sensors on the pump at all? Or does the whole pump need changing? Thanks. Nick.
  10. Hi guys, Im new here but need some advice on an IS200 I have been offered recently. It was off the road for nearly a year and was sent for an MOT over the summer and failed on brakes. The owner got the garage to do the work, requiring a new rear caliper, and new pads. It past the MOT and has also had 4 new tyres and alignment setting up. I test drove the car, and it brakes perfectly from higher speeds, no juddering, squeeling or anything. It brakes in a straight line, and tracks in a straight line. Braking from 60 for a roundabout is perfect. But the issue comes when you come to a halt. When you come to a stop (even from a slow speed) the brake pedal judders and then comes back up at you. Its like the ABS is kicking in everytime you come to a stop. Even if you brake gently to a stop it does the same thing. There are no brake warning lights on the dash, and the abs light dosnt come on at any time, even when you come to a stop. The pedal is not spongy at all and it past its mot like it. The guy said he just lived with it as its only when you come to a stop. But Im not too happy about driving a car that has the brake pedal coming back up every time you pull up! Any ideas what it could be? I dont want to be put off buying the car as apart from this (and engine management light is on, although it seems to run fine) the car seems good. Any help would be good. Thanks. Nick.
