  1. Yes, It drives ok ,but this is only really noticeable if I have passengers in the back.
  2. Yesterday, Driving with Four in the car, went over a speed bump at a slow speed . and heard a massive crunch. Did the springs , a few years ago, so would this be the Shock absorbers? Bit of a poor show , if they need replacing after 22 years!
  3. I read somewhere,( Perhaps on this forum) of a man who worked for Lexus when the LS400 first came out,in charge of dealing with Warranty claims. He quit the job out of boredom,as he spent his days with his feet on the desk, reading the paper. He had nothing to do!
  4. Just had my Mot on my 2000 Mk 4 and It failed on some suspension issues. I managed to get a Lower Suspension Ball Joint from the main Dealer ( Ouch!) but they have stopped supplying the Various supension Bushes. I found a company in Bournemouth, Relsters Ltd ( Problem Solving Bushings) who came up with the goods. So another years lease of life for "The Magic Carpet" !
  5. Went out to start it this morning and battery flat. Got Jump leads and went to open Bonnet but no reaction from switch under dash board. So unable to lift Bonnet to get to catch. Any Ideas chaps?
  6. Noticed it today, even when engine was switched off. Definitely No Brummies hiding in the back! Opened Boot, Whine gets louder,Lift up carpet on Left Hand side, There is a Black Box , about 9" x 6" with Lexus writtten on top with Wires going in and out. Looks as if Boot seal has failed, as signs of obvious water ingress, but does anyone know what Box is and what the whine signifies?
  7. Am using the Blue tooth one but only seem to be getting sound on Passenger side. Any ideas?
  8. So now that I have the old Girl back from the dead, ( see exhaust saga) , I would quite like to use my phone/ Play some music from it whilst I am driving. Absolute crap at electronics , so does anyone have a solution and a place in London that they can recommend that can do the necessary. Then hopefully the Sun will come out and I can wind down the windows and treat everyone to some Dad Rock. ( O.K, Johnny Cash!)
  9. Well, I got a Second Opinion, Powerflow Exhausts in Mitcham , South London. Drove it there at 7.00 am in the morming, waking up the neighbourhood and setting off Car Alarms! Awesome sound! They took The Y section that I bought from LexusParts in Swindon and Did a bit of a " Cut and Shut" with some Exhaust tubes that they had, and stuck it through the MOT. £440.00 , Ta Very Much. Her Indoors is happy again , as it is her daily driver to the Train Station. I may now try and work on getting the paint work up to scratch. It is now entirely possible that I will run out of places to buy Petrol ,before it wears out. Thanks to HIzzoner The Mayor, It will cost me £13.50 to drive past the Sarf Circular!
  10. Well, It had to come! My 20 year old mark IV has to go. Needed to replace the Y section on the exhaust ,which I duly purchased. The Garage got it up on the ramps and called me in. Someone in the past had decided to weld the various sections of the exhaust together. So, to get the exhast off would have meant going back to the manifold, Engine out, head off. How much sez I? How long is piece of string? So engine has only done 118,000, had new belt and waterpump about 5k ago,Gear box in good nick. Any good to anyone? Had it for six years, Best car I have ever driven , won't see its like again.
  11. Hello Everyone, Getting towards the Mot date again and I have a Blow from the Y Piece. Does anyone Know of anywhere in the London area that does Exhaust systems? Only places . on the web that supply parts seem to be on the USA. Still rumbling on, Did 500 mile round trip to Salford and back a few weeks ago in one day. Easy cruising apart from some Arse clenching moments on some of these " Smart " Motorways. Luckily stamping my foot to the floor summoned up the Angry Lexus God,and I was able to get out of trouble!
  12. I park my 2000 Silver Lexus Ls400 in the street outside my house. The other day, as there was no space ,I parked a little further up the road under a Pear Tree. For some reason this has been planted on the pavement and is now about 20 ft tall ,and is full of these smally crabby pears. This year ,the local Parakeets have discovered it , and have crapped all over the car. I did not get a chance to wash it the next day, but took it to the car was as soon as. Crap all off but it has now etched these pink stains into the paint work. I got some Tar and Bug Remover from Halfords with a Sponge with a Nylon face, and have tried to get it off to no avail. Any Ideas chaps? ( Apart from Twelver Bore loaded with Bird Shot!)
  13. Dave at Kensington Autos in Norbury. He takes care of my Mk 4, Rebuilds a lot of Cosworths, builds Quarter size Traction Engines from scratch ! Top bloke.
  14. Just had a thought. Get all the Top Gear crew who dissed the Ls 400 at the time back to the Nurburgring track with 20 year old equivalent Beemers,Mercs et al and an Ls 400 and see which performs best after 20 laps. I know which one I would put my money on!
  15. Just put my 2000 Mk4 through its Mot,yesterday, I had an advisory on a slightly worn rear tyre. Last year I had an advisory on a defective reversing light bulb. It's just one thing after another with these Lexus cars!
  16. I currently have a Mk4 Ls 400, dating from 2000 with the grand total of 108k on the clock. Just about run in ,you might think. Assuming that I dont turn my toes up or shunt it in the next ten years ,it will probably be still going. Trouble is, given the growth of Electric cars, will it still be possible to buy petrol at the pumps? Given that in London,I wont be able to drive it inside the North/South Circular from next year,( Thanks Sadiq!) It is likely that they will roll out ever more onerous restrictions around the country . We could all end up with perfectly good cars that we cant drive anywhere.
  17. Anyone remember that Woody Allen film ,"The Sleeper " ,where he is frozen and thawed out 200 years from now. He finds a VW Beetle in a cave covered in dust,he reaches inside and turns the key,and it starts first time. I always get the feeling that you could do that to a LS 400!
  18. I have only just got over my outrage from last year when they flagged up a defective brake light on my 2000 Mk 4. Another year on and who knows what they might flag up? I could be looking down the barrel of a two figure sum in order to get it through . Is it worth it, I ask myself?
  19. Just had to put it through its MOT, today, It needs a new Front Number plate. What with £54.00 for the Test Fee and £30.00 for a new plate, and the tenner for the Brake Light Bulb change , It is rapidly turning into a Money Pit! I'll be ruined if it carries on like this !
  20. So my 2000 Mk 4 is just on 105,000 miles, and I put about 10,000 a year on it. Now barring a major shunt ,or major repairs , ( such as another brake light bulb!!) I will probably still have it when I retire in five years time,by which time it will probably have 160,000 on the clock. The thought of becoming an OAP and wearing those grey shoes with velcro straps on the front and the highlight of my week being a trip to the Garden centre, fills me with utter horror. I have therefore decided that if I make it ,I will do something drastic to the Lexus. I shall have it wrapped in Matt black, smoke out all the windows, some badass wheels with those spinning rims , and a Stainless steel straight through Exhaust. I shall cruise around, with the windows open just enough ,so that I can crank up the stereo to blast out " Green Onions" or " Bad to the Bone" or some wickky wackky 1970,s funk. When I draw up beside someone in their Electric Car ,or some Virtue Signalling Cyclists in sweaty lycra, I shall just drop it into neutral and blip the throttle! Growing old disgracefully , I call it!
  21. Everyone on this forum goes on and on about how reliable the LS 400 is. I have just had to change a Brake Light bulb on my 20 Mk4. Only 18 years old, Shoddy, I call it!!
  22. A rare occasion for me, I had to drive from London to the west Country on my own on Friday Night, to meet up with the wife and kids. My Lexus is 18 years old and has just tripped over a Hundred K. I am an old git staring sixty in the face and am mostly well behaved these days. Once I got past the road works on the M4,found myself cruising at 85-90.Then an occasional blip up to 110 just for fun ,then I heard this voice in my head saying" I can do 150 , Go on, Pleeeaaase!!" Common sense kicked in for a bit ,then I was reasonably well behaved until I got off the motorway and passed through Melksham. You then have a series of Roundabouts with a two mile stretch of straight between them. So obviously I put it into sport mode and floored it, talk about Jeckyll and Hyde!,It can fly!, Slow down for each roundabout, ( a bit), then off again I turned up at Trowbridge grinning like a loon, The Oldest Boy Racer in Town! The best and fastest car I have ever had.
  23. I have a 2000 Mk 4 and I have an intermittent red Brake warning light flashing , with a message saying " Brake Wear". I took it to the Garage yesterday and naturally ,the light stayed off! He plugged in the computer and ran diagnostics,Nothing. Checked brakes manually, on ramp, fine.Any ideas,Chaps?
