  1. I guess you mean the gasket between "after the CAT" and flange for the start of the "Y section" part of the exhaust. Get inderneath and have a good look. I suspect that the nuts for this joint are seized and rusted beyond use. Mine were, so I sealed the gap with some exhaust paste and with 2 jubilee clips together, I put them around the joint to squeeze in and hold all the paste in place. This lasted for over a year, fo2 2 MOTs and was a quick cheap fix. I know that others have has this joint welded up with success too.
  2. Hi I will swear there was another reply to this topic earlier today or maybe I imagined it Anyway, you might find the following links useful. After reading them, I concluded that cleaning the EGR was the 1st step, failing which replacement. What was interesting was that all the manufacturers have EGR problems - http://www.dragtimes.com/parts/Brand-New-Lexus-LS400-1995-97-OEM-EGR-Pipe-Sub-Assembly_110507198349.html http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3288 http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5974 http://www.justanswer.com/questions/2whg6-i-have-to-replace-the-egr-tube-on-my-93-ls400-and-was-told http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290029 http://www.faqs.org/qa/qa-7120.html thanks guys withh take it off soon see if replace or save it cheers I changed mine a couple of years back. It is 2 pipes on the MK-III, you need lots of dexterity to do it. Send me a PM with your email and I'll forward you some info. IIRC, the pipes were about £50 each and you need 2 gaskets for each.
  3. He means hold the boot release button on the remote fob for a few seconds.
  4. Can some one load a picture of what they are missing, the rest of us are blind to it all.
  5. My old MK-III had the timing belt changed at 62k when I purchased it. At 150k, I took a lot of the front end of the engine off to prepare to change it. On one of the idler wheels where the belt is bent outwards, I could clearly see the teeth. They were in perfect condition, no damage, no wear and no cracking at all. The belt is so well burried and protected, it was dry and only covered in a little dust. The car went on to 190k and still ran sweet as ever and I drove that car hard now and again. That was 130k on 1 belt. My plan is to never change the belt on my current LS400 MK-III, it seems a pointless exercise. BTW, my old car failed with a starter moteor problem in the end and now it is being broken up for parts.
  6. OR, it could be that your rear springs have broken. Both mine were broken within 1 loop of the top of both springs, and the car seemed to sit about 2 inches lower than another car of the same year.
  7. Seems like a nice piece of data, the number of cars that passed or failed MOT on first attempt, But I am shocked about the low volumes of LS400s. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/opensecrets/MOT...l_Comp_2007.xls Year Pass Fail 1990 177 133 1991 283 135 1992 305 180 1993 517 284 1994 439 218 1995 707 334 1996 612 219 1997 588 197 1998 752 172 1999 295 77 2000 235 56 2004 1 1 Total 4,915 2,008 and 40% of the cars failed on first attempt at MOT. And this was 3 years ago.
  8. We look forward to seeing some pictures..... or a telephone number so we can buy it.
  9. I keep 2 high-vis jackets in there..... with a little first aid kit and some condoms. You never know when this sort of stuff comes in handy
  10. Go for it, the Mk-iii is the most economical LS400 and all you will miss from a Mk-iV is the sat nav in dash and restyled front end, but Mk-iv is a lot thirstyer. Once a Lexus driver, always a lexus driver, I am on my second, so are many others. This is a good site, scroll down the pages..... http://www.lexls.com/info/lsgenerations.html Enjoy..... you wont regret it. PS: Mk-iV wheels will go on a Mk-iii, but you need the nuts too.
  11. Get a written report off the RAC, then contact trading standards...... their advise is free and VERY good normally. initially I would inform the dealer, but if you think this is a major safety issue, you should contact Lexus GB HQ too.
  12. Sorry John, so many posts, too many to read, understand, digest, compute and process........... and then to respond to!
  13. Horses for courses................ My original Lexus fitted/Scorpion-5000 is 15 years old and still works perfectly.
  14. If you do purchase from a Lexus Stealer, ask for a discounst as per your membership of the Web Lexus Owners club. I always get 10% off...... and every penny counts :-) If you read the owners handbook, you will see that there is a difference between a main key and a Valet ket. Just call the dealer for a price, then at least you have a starting point.
  15. I saw on the USA site that some folk have resolved this fault by cleaning all the elctrical connections for the motors etc.
  16. I have a 1995 car with a Scorpion 5000 alarm, as fitted from about Jan 1995 to about Sept 1995 and approved by Thatcham as cat-1. Scorpion 5000 Thatcham Cat-1 See the middle of Page 16 under Toyota 5000. This is a usefull site actually. the T5000 has a square keyring fob, with a raised red button and a dented black button and a slider on the side. There have been a few posts about this syetem recently and I am happy to help with queries. FAQ: 1/ The slider needs to be in 1 position or the other, else the alarm will not be turned off when the ignition is engaged. 2/ If the car has been tampered with, the number of flases on the dash indicates how the system was activated. 3/ As another owner found out recently, there are batteries inside the siren, so it is advisable to check that they are good, else your alarm will be silent when it is most needed. 4/ I am guessing that the 3 pins on the side are for reprogramming. Scorpion told me that the reprogramming machine dies a few years ago and has been scrapped, so they can not reprogram fobs..... but they can sell you a replacement system. 5/ I was told that the alarms were fitted by Lexus, sometimes at dealer level, they cut into the loom, the control box only has lots of black wires and is located under the lower glove box. 6/ I will add other details as I come accross them, it could be usefull to search the forums for the other cars that have the sama alarm system... landcruiser, Rav, Supra etc. I have the instructions too, I'm not sure that I can publish them, but fire away.
  17. When I had problems with my Mk-II and the Scorpion alarm, Scorpion told me that the reprogramming machine failed a few years ago and so they had to discard it. Oh yes, they were able to reccomend a replacement alarm system as a substitute/upgrade. So i had my suspicions about their motives. Good to hear that others are now having better luck.
  18. I was lead to beleive that the red button on the fob behaved like a panic alarm, so maybe you could test if this button sets off the siren. Also, what does the previous owner have to say about it?
  19. My 1995 Mk-III has half the lights on the AC display not working on the LHS. The AC works fine, the Radio works fine and the radio illumination works fine too. I have taken out the aircon unit and "continuity tested" all of the 5 bulbs, they all work. soundchaser100, where are these dry joints you mention? I have the unit out of the car all in pieces ready to re-solder. Mr2lad, where are these caps? even thought I have some bulds working it could be good to check the caps while I have it all out. Instructions are good, pics would be great, At the moment I have the unit open all over the bench and I can not see any dry joints, just lots of numbered componants. many thanks in advance.
  20. I am no longer seeing the diagrams and pictures on www.toyodiy.com It was ok about a month ago. is anyone else experiencing this same problem? and more importantly, to me, how to over come it?
  21. semd me a PM with your email address, I have some intructions and pictures to show it. Simon.
  22. I have not used them, but I beleive that "Powerhouse" in Camberley are an indy Lexus servicing garage.
  23. I find that because I drive a gentlemans car, the boys in blue treat me like a gentleman. And so the young whipper snappers should!
