  1. Sorry for the late reply - I was unconscious having surgery done to my back when you sent this message. As far as I can tell, nothing seemed any different than before, which in my case is good since I didn't have any issues previously. Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to drive mine for a week or so, so I can't comment on how it is now. And no, no extra's. I was hoping for perhaps some free fuel, but it was returned exactly as it went in. Not that I am that bothered really since I had a loan car to use in the meantime, so the inconvenience was minimal.
  2. I can't really tell you how long it took since they had my car for two days. I was told on the phone that it would take 4-5 hours, which I suppose is plausible considering how much grief it must be to take the dash out.
  3. It is true that I get my car serviced at Lexus, but I suspect that certain dealers are getting parts before others and I got lucky that Lexus Reading was one of them. Unless someone else also has their car serviced there and hasn't had a call?
  4. Well, got the car back today. I have only managed a short journey so far, but all seems good. Due to going into hospital tomorrow I am not going to get much of a chance to drive it for the next week. As for the brakes, the dealer suggested changing the pads support plates. I assume they are referring to these: Of course, the dealer wanted too much money to do the job their, so I have found this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-IS-IS200d-IS220d-IS250-2006-2013-FRONT-Brake-Pad-Disc-Fitting-Hardware-Kit/302416861103?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 Unfortunately, due to a hand injury, I am unable to do this simple job myself, but I am sure I can find a friendly garage that can spend half an hour or so fitting them. So, before I go ahead and order the parts, anyone have an comments on the likelihood of this solving my problem? Thanks.
  5. Had mine done yesterday. All seems ok, for now. Gonna keep my ears peeled for any dash creaks.
  6. It can be a bit confusing, but some GS's did come with the smaller screen, like this one: https://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/used-lexus/Lexus/GS-250/25VVTi-209bhp-sr-Navi-12-Levinson-auto-Luxury-r1bjvfv Rest assured Alan that I am not looking to spend that much on a car anytime soon. It was just one of the only examples that I could show you with a similar spec to what I would be after. I think you are right that the 450h commands a premium, and I also agree that I am not sure it is worth the extra. Of course, having tried neither car, I am not exactly in a position to comment, but I am thinking that the GS is more of a relaxed cruiser that wouldn't need that extra performance very often. Not that I would complain if I happened to get hold of one. I will admit I don't mind the interior colour on the one I posted previously, and it would probably come a close second after cream. Having said that, it would probably be easier to keep clean.
  7. Well, unfortunately, I am not in a position to get anything at the moment. I can't even find an example of what I would ideally like, so the closest example would be this: https://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/en/used-lexus/Lexus/GS-450h/35-Premier-pbbjtmc Although, preferably it would have a cream interior. Also, a year or two newer. However, if I found one I liked that was a 300h instead, then that would work. I am thinking best case scenario here, so not everything is required. It also doesn't seem to have the HUD fitted, which I thought was standard on the Premier?
  8. You saw 3 GS's? They must like them in Scotland. i have seen 2 in the last 6 months or so. I have a IS 300h Sport with me today, and I have noticed it is a little hard over the broken tarmac that people in London take for roads. Lexus Hedge End obviously like their customers better Nah, but seriously, if you ever find yourself around Basingstoke way, let me know
  9. There does seem to be an issue with the MyLexus page. It claims I have the ipod kit on mine, but there is no sign of it. Even if the previous owner had taken it out, there should still be a hole in the glovebox.
  10. I can't really comment on the NX since the one they lent me was a basic spec, but I certainly can see what you are saying regarding the GS. I too managed high 30's mpg, which is a lot less than the IS 300H's I have also tried. GS's are definitely quite rare around my way. i actually saw one the other day and wondered how long it had been since I had seen another. Quite frustrating when you are considering one as your next car and are as picky about spec as i am. i really wish Lexus Reading had a GS in their courtesy car fleet since I would like to try one. They only have CT's, IS's and one NX, and I have tried all of these.
  11. Well, I am not that bothered how long they take really since they are giving me a courtesy car for 2 days. Perhaps the Avensis dash is easier to remove? I don't envy the technicians at the dealerships that are going to have to remove all these dashboards in the coming months.
  12. You are right not to trust the dealer Keith, so I will ask them to double check their work this time. If nothing comes of it, then I will investigate myself. I have already told them I am slightly concerned because it involves the brakes. I am surprised my airbag is getting done so soon to be honest. Got a call out of the blue last week asking when I wanted it done. They told me they need the car for 5-6 hours.
  13. Thank you both. Unfortunately, I am currently unable to work on my car due to a badly cut finger putting me in a splint I will have to find someone who can have a look for me. A couple of things I can tell you; The pads are fine because I had them checked. Lexus recently replaced both my front calipers, so hopefully it is safe to assume they are held in place properly. I too suspected suspension joints, but I was assured by the dealer that it was all good under there. My car is going in for its airbag recall on Wednesday, so I can ask them to have a look at it again. Last time I was there the technician thought he heard to noise, but he could only guess that it might be the pad retaining clips, which they wanted to charge me £120 for. I was advised to wait and see if it gets worse, so it is possible that they will be able to find something this time. I just thought that if someone had experienced something similar, then it might give me a few pointers to ask them about.
  14. Hey chaps, Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced something similar. Basically, what is happening is, if I brake gently, I can hear a 'click click' sound coming from the front. I know how difficult it can be diagnosing sounds, but that is the best way I can describe it. It seems to be getting worse, and I now think I can also feel it through the brake pedal. I can't be certain, but I have noticed that a hard brake will 'reset' it somewhat before it happens again. I was sat in traffic yesterday, and it was doing it a lot during the slow stop starting. The only thing someone has advised me so far is the pad retaining clips might need changing, but I am not sure. So, anyone else come across something like this? Thanks.
  15. What a fantastic looking car. What colour is that? If you plan to keep the car long term then it makes sense to pay over the odds for such a car. It has an almost perfect MOT history with the most minor issues and a consistent 3-4k miles usage a year.
  16. The warranty T&C's can be found here: https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/warranty-and-insurance/#LexusCareExtendedWarranty It is pretty much what is given to you when you take out the policy. While I think it is fair enough that parts like shocks, clutches, brakes are considered wear and tear items, what isn't right is the lack of clarity on what criteria defines it as such. What seems to be happening at the moment is the warranty company deciding on a case by case basic, with no consistency. This shouldn't be allowed and some clearly defined parameters should be specified. That way at least you will know if, for example, your car is over 8 years old, or has done more than 100k miles, then the shocks will not be covered, and so forth.
  17. Hi Chris, I thought the boot was supposed to be like that cause mine is the same? Even with the car unlocked, the only two ways to open the boot are either with the keys next to it or from the boot release button on the lower right of the dash. I am not sure if this a user configurable option or not, but it seems that the boot lock is not connected to the door ones. You can't pick up Radio 2?!? This is certainly serious! But seriously, the only obvious thing you can do is check the antenna wire on the rear window, like so: EGR cleaning is quite straightforward and only requires basic tools. You can see the procedure here: The only thing I do differently is I don't disconnect the metal pipe. All I do is loosen the bottom bolt and remove the top one, and that allows you to swing the pipe out of the way enough for it to clear the valve. It also means you don't need to remove the battery. Speaking of batteries, it is perfectly fine to disconnect yours. The only thing that will need resetting is the auto open/closure of the windows. To reset those, you need to lower the windows and then pull the switch all the way up for about 10 second for each door. So, with the exception of the drivers door, you need to use the switch on the door itself instead of the one on the drivers panel. Personally, I have never had a problem with the clutch pedal, but I can imagine it is quite frustrating if it requires a lot of force. You could check the switch, which is located here: Perhaps you could unbolt the switch and jam something between it and the bracket on the pedal? As long as the clutch still engages cleanly it shouldn't be a problem. For the wing mirrors, @is200 Newbie wrote an excellent guide here: The priming option on the satellite switch is used whenever you drain the fuel system. It is used to build up pressure and remove air from the system before you try and start the car. Basically, it runs the fuel pump for a while. There is also some software that can do funky stuff with your Lexus In our case, it is Toyota's TechStream software. It is cheap and easy to get a copy from Ebay, along with the cable required to connect it to your car. I am afraid I have no clue regarding the console lid. Your assessment is pretty accurate with regards to how it drives. You are also correct on how pleased I am to drive it every day.
  18. Knock yourself out. It is strange because, like you said, finding pictures of IS's isn't difficult, but it is still nice to see people posting pictures of their cars.
  19. The guy did say they need it for the whole day and it would be at least 5-6 hours. My dash is currently silent, so I will not be happy if it starts making any noises after the airbag is done.
  20. Well, that can't be true because I have just had a call from Lexus Reading and my car is booked in for next wednesday. It was the first time I have spoken to someone about it.
  21. Hi Joel, I am afraid I can't speak for aftermarket, but have you tried any breakers on Ebay? A second hand one should be more reasonably priced, and they seem to be quite hard wearing.
