  1. Hi, hope everyone is having a nice Sunday. I wonder if anyone can shed some light on a right pain in the ***** problem with my is 200 sport (2004) I have a rattle. A right nuisance. Not loud but loud enough to notice. It seems to come from the front of the car. I had one shock changed just after i got the car. Still rattles I had new discs and pads on the front A garage told me it was the anti roll bar bushes, so had them changed at £130. Didn't work Took it elsewhere, and THEY said also the anti roll bar, looked at the previous garages work, said was poor quality and replaced them. so i paid TWICE for the same damn job but this time they replaced 2 other bushes or dampers, in the middle of the bar. £150. Still bloody rattles They are now saying it is the lower ball joints, to replace, another £155. Am i being taken for a ride here if you pardon the pun? I was ripped off by a car dealer, one who didn't honour his warranty (Plympton car centre, Devon, avoid them like the plague) and have spent a small fortune on this damn car. Does anyone think replacing the ball joints would fix it or is there something else it could be?
  2. hi, i dont know if this thread is resolved but I am selling my Lexus is 200 sport, 2004. Not sure if i am allowed to post a link to the advert here, mods please advise. Thanks
  3. pretty much the same for me too. This site is a really good source of info. :)
  4. Hi, a quick question. I have an is200 sport 2004, not owned it long. When the drivers door is open i can hear an audible whine, no idea where it is from. When i press my finger against the lower internal door seal (where it meets the inner cill and you have the "lexus" chrome plate where you climb in) the audible/electrical sound changes pitch. ....er.....prob about the best way to describe it. Anyone know what it is? Is is meant to be there? Is there an audible "door open "sound?
  5. Thanks for the replies. Well legally, I'm not sure where I stand. I have to wait until next week when the trading standards fella is back of holiday (!) but ive been told what to do but I don't think Plympton Car centre are going to play ball, and hell, I don't want to deal with the boss who is a nasty piece of work. I may have to take it on the chin and just spend more money on the car which i didn't plan for! Oh well, still a great car but after spending a fair bit buying it as i thought it was a good one, its a damn shame that a garage offers a warranty and doesnt honour it!
  6. Hi, yes, to be honest with you, I may have to. Its already spoilt it, the fact that, I'm not a wealthy fella, but every time I got a commission cheque from work, i put a bit away, and thus saved up for it, so a bit of anti climax really, not with the car, LOVE it but I'm sure you can agree, getting bad service from anywhere, and being able to do nothing about it, is somewhat frustrating! So as far as i can see, i have to pay about another 300 quid for the cambelt, 150 to 200 for new discs, and whatever its going to cost to fix the oil leak and the suspension! :( oh well!
  7. All good ideas but I dont want this car to end up being a "bad taste in the mouth" so to speak. I wrote a truthful but harsh review on the Plympton car sales facebook page but for some reason they took it down! I have spoken to Plymouth trading standards, they think there is a case for prosecution but the fella that deals with it isn't in until next monday! As far as speaking with the fella, that totally out of the window. I have never dealt with such an awful car dealer
  8. BTW had a long chat with the CAB and trading standards today. It seems i have to write a letter detailing everything and tell them i will take it to my regular garage to fix and then bill them, but whats the likelihood they will pay up something that could run into hundreds, and seems i would have to take them to court to get them to pay! So they sell me a car with dodgy brake discs and therefore possibly dodgy calipers, a leaking shock absorber, and possibly faults ABS. I have to pay for that after spending 2800 on the car? Any thoughts anyone?
  9. Thanks thats handy info. So it seems the law is on my side however there is no way the dealer will do the work. Am already 100 down by having a collapsed shock replaced (2 days after i got the car). There are a couple of noises when going over bumps which i presume are lower suspension mountings that need replacing and of course the discs issue. Hes already said he wont do it, so any idea what to do now or would i be flogging a dead horse with the legal route?
  10. Is that true? Oh cool! however relations between myself and the garage broke down so bad the fella wont even speak to me!!! Never ever dealt with a car dealer so bad before. I think I will have to do some research but the last thing i want to do is to face the dealer at present, the rudest person i have ever met, no idea why he is still in business
  11. ok that's fair enough I reckon and I thought as much. I'm going to snip that cable off now, its been annoying me for the past 2 weeks I have had the car. First Lexus I've owned since 2004 so just getting to know it. (Although I reckon I may also take those front "splitters" off the spoiler too, it makes a statement but perhaps not one that I wanted to make)
  12. ah ok thanks for the info, thats helpful. I'll rip that wire out then!
  13. Hi, I hope someone can fill in some blanks for me as only recently bought this car. 2004 Is 200 sport UK model. The previous owner, for some reason, removed the sat nav. Then replaced it with the standard flip up parcel tray. I have a button by the gearstick saying TM but of course doesn't do anything, plus i have a cable that comes from under the dash and over the top, with a sensor at the end. Is that supposed to be there or is this something maybe left over if they had their own satnav in there instead? If so, can the wire be ripped out or will it affect anything? How much would it cost to have someone fit a 2nd had lexus nav back in? If i had lexus nav put back in, i prob wouldnt use it though(!) i am just thinking of the cars resale value, not that i plan to get rid of! Thanks
  14. hi. Ive just bought an is 200 sport and had the same issue. Had it serviced and its warped brake discs causing issue, no idea if this is a common occurrence. A pity the dealer (Plympton car centre) has a warranty so crap it more or less only covers the cigarette lighter, so gonna have to pay for that to be done :(
  15. .......just for info, again, does anyone know how many is200 sport were actually released in the UK?
  16. LOL! Brizzle eh? I think I'm supposed to say "gert lush"! (Whatever that means!)
  17. Hi Colin, thanks for the info. :) Well the car was bought by me 2 weeks ago in the state you see in the photo. Its done 95k, checked it out and seems genuine miles, however the 3rd owner (i'm the 4th) didn't look after it and have discovered its had a few bits of respray here and there. (The dealer was an a**hole by the way) :megaangry: Lexus history up to 52k and then a gap of 40k but have all old MOTs and the miles check out. I am sure i will discover more things with it as i go along! (yes it has a short throw gear stick) The wheels are 17" and are lexus wheels so I presumed maybe the original owner got these on a special order. As far as the skirts, well again, i dont know if there are supposed to be there or not really!
  18. hi, i'm also in Devon (Plymouth), good to hear you got a lexus, took me ages to find a decent 2nd hand one down here!
  19. Hi, I found your site on Google when I typed in something about buyers tips for a lexus IS 200
  20. Thanks Mike, very much appreciated. I thought it was about time i posted something here, looks like a forum packed with info, all good stuff
  21. Thanks Geoff, much appreciated :)
  22. Hi. I joined this forum last week, prob good manners for me to at least say hi! I have just become the owner of an 04 plate is 200 Sport, see photo....... The last time i owned a lexus was 12 years ago and that was an is 200 se auto. This is a sport manual. When i had it serviced the mechanic said this car was quite rare, is that correct? I have 2 questions really and I hope some members could help answering them. 1. How many of these were sold in the UK? This particular version. 2. Can anyone point me to a list of the differences between this car and the "normal" model? Thanks in advance PS, Ref "differences", i dont mean the obvious ones (LOL) like the lower ride and bigger wheels. Thanks
