  1. Had A MK1 Rx300 se for 3 yrs with 30,000 miles part/ex for new Rx300SE-L . Looked at other makes, BMW X5 was on order, but the way I was treated by BMW was nothing less than disgusting, so cancelled it. Made Lexus a real joy to place the order with. Look no further. Realspeed

  3. Hi Steve I would love to be able to go to meets but unfortunately my job is a 7 day week as I own a boarding kennels and cattery, which the law says must have someone on the premises all the time there are pets being boarded. I have to arrange at the start of the year to grab a 2 week break in November, apart from that bank hols- christmas -summer hols- are the busyiest times and we always have 20 + pets boarding during other times so I just can't get away. Don,t get me wrong I love the job its just that as explained my time is fully occupied. Realspeed
  4. I seems strange to me that there are so many members here and many of them view the posts in all sections, yet there are very few who actually bother to post. I cannot personally see the point of being a member of anything, yet alone a site like this, if those who join only to view, don't take an active part, no matter how small. For those of you who fall into this catagory you must have something interesting to post even if its about the type of Lexus you drive, and any experiences good or bad . We all like to read other peoples posts, so come on out of the hiding behind a computer screen and join in the more that post the more interesting this site will become. Realspeed
  5. Quick note. before you buy private the dealership in Jockey road, the birmingham dealership, has according to their web site, got several Rx300's in stock and you get a 1yrs warrantee with it which you wouldn't get from a private purchase, maybe worth thinking about. can't hurt checking the site out. 6. All I will say is I had a Lexus mk1 RX300 for 3 yrs and it never let me down,I was so pleased with the whole lexus "package" that I upgraded to a mk2 Rx300se-l. In the past I have had Range Rovers -Isuzu troopers- Ford Explorers- Land Cruisers- 4 runners, etc etc. Out of all these the only one I would consider going back to is the Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon as its diesel and the insurance is one group lower. To be honest I was going for a BMW X5 but the way I was treated by BMW was so disgusting that I would never even consider getting one now. For just one example of BMW I had to wait for 5, yes 5 months to even get a test drive in one, and I booked 3 appointments with them. each time I turned up at the showroom not only was I ignored for at least half an hour, but they even had the cheek to say they didn't even know about me let alone having a test drive. This is a totally different experience to Lexus. When I took my first Rx300 for a 30,000 service, I asked for a new demo model as I was thinking of upgrading. Not only did I get a brand new car to test, top of the range RX300 SE-L, but I also had it for the day, and to top it all the car was low on fuel so the salesman took it down the garage and filled the tank for me. Having been a motorist for over 40 years and had many new cars never before has the car been on test with a full tank. I have found that its not just the sellng of the car Lexus are interested in, the back up, i.e service, is superb not only the committment ,but I have always had another RX 300 ( Similar model)as a loan car when requested, not like other dealers who give you a clapped out old banger. I can't speak for other dealerships ( Lexus Wolverhampton I went to) but I do believe that the same standard is right across the country and would not hesitate to recommend the brand. Mileage around the houses average 21 mpg but motorway over 32 mpg but then again its still a tight engine being new car, and I don't drive possibly as economically as I should. Finally just to say I have no connection with the motor trade whatsoever, Just one very very satisfied customer. Realspeed
  7. Wondered if disconnecting and reconnecting the battery would set everything back to the default status, thereby clearing the problem. Just a thought as the electronics are only like a small computer and rebooting those sorts out faults. Realspeed
  8. Had same squeak on my SE-L traced it to boot shelf support arm being loose in ball and socket when in closed position. Suggest either remove support arm or pad it out inside socket. Realspeed
  9. Had 2 clients both bought brand new Toyota Landcruiser Amazons and both are experiencing excessive tyre wear ( 9000 miles ) on the outside edge of the front nearside tyre to the extent of them going bald. One of the clients says he has noticed this on several Amazons as well. Just in case anyone thinking about buying one. Realspeed
  10. What about adding a tv as in the BMW X5 comms pack. Realspeed
  11. Not too sure that I actually want auto locking doors as they can be locked via a switch manually anyway if the occupants want it. Nobody seems to have thought about what happens in a serious car crash and the need to exit the vehicle in a hurry or the need for rescuers to get at the people inside. Having been in a crash where the vehicle landed on its side, deep in a ditch (due to oncomming vehicle slid on ice straight into me) in my last MK1 RX300, I was only too glad to be able to escape without having to think as to why the doors didn't open. Just also to mention that if i hadn't been in the lexus I believe I would have suffered more serious injuries than I did. Thank you Lexus for my safety. The damage to the car was all bodywork which was repaired as good as new. Realspeed
  12. Don't wish to rub salt in the wound but the local councils are under no obligation to grit any roads at any time. So putting a claim in against them just won't be accepted. Sorry Realspeed
  13. When I moved into the place I have now, I had a complete electrical checkover by the local electricity board. The check was so thorough they missed the flurescent light in the kitchen being used as a junction point ( had 13 cables with crimp joints in it). they missed the burnt out wiring to the outside lights to one of the outbuildings (lights not worked bare wires). They missed an overhead cable supporting an earth wire which was appearing to be there as the support wire. They missed the old fuse box in an outbuilding which had no cover and a birds nest hanging over the top. They Missed the old cooker which only had one ring working, earth wires hadn't been correctly identified with the right colour sleeves, earth bonding not fully connected in every place. These are just some of the things they missed I could go on and on but these were some of the more serious faults. By the way I have now bought all up to standard. including second trip switch protection circuit breakers to all out buildings, as well as main incomming suppy Luckly I did many years ago a 5 yr apprenticship in electro/mechanical engineering so corrected the faults. Go on ask me if I would have a qualified electrician in my place to carry out work, I don't think so, and by the way, the local board issued a check list approval type form saying everything was ok. Anyway apart from that how can anyone say any work was not carried out prior to the new laws that have come into force. Realspeed
  14. yes all car paints are now water based, the old twinpack they used to use under health and safety gave off toxic fumes above recommended saftey levels, so car manufactures and resprayers now are only allowed water based paints. I was speaking to a car restorer only the other day on the same subject. That is how I know the darker the paint the softer it is due to more pigmentation required. Hope this is of some help Realspeed
  15. I have been with freeserve anytime then upgraded to broadband as soon as it was available on my telephone exchange. Using a single computer on the supplied modem has been no problem but recently I have been using a wanadoo (new freeserve name) approved router and it has caused some problems even though I have the top package available. The speed is down slightly which is to be expected but when the server is busy the router cuts in and out or slows to such a slow speed its not worth using I cannot get the 1 mgb so have to make do with half that service (too far from exchange) and the cable companies are to darn idle and lazy to run a cable out to where I live. I understand as a point of interest that Wanadoo can detect routers on a line and can interfere with them somehow to stop use at peak times. I don't know how true it is but there are whispers. May pay to check this out before signing up with any server company. Realspeed
  16. The RX400 is in looks the same as the RX300 the difference is it has electic motors at each wheel for fuel economy etc (Think of the Toyota Prius) the principal as far as I am aware is the same. it isn't a replacement for the RX300, which the 2005 version is fitted with bluetooth at least on the top of the range. One thing you will notice either on the boards or elsewhere the sat nav dvd is great except that the current version does not have the latest road details , as in the Birmingham toll road etc, hopefully that will be out later this yr but it does have traffic avoidance facility. the SAT NAV is amazing anyway, take a look at www.Lexus.com the usa version and if you look at the sat nav on there the demo will blow your mind away. OK its the usa version but gives a very good idea of the uk version. Have to admit it took me some time to get my head around it, but boy is it a good excuse to get away from the other half. Colin Barber will no doubt be able to give you more information than I ever could but at least I will try my best Realspeed No excuse for not going to the vatican city or most of europe the SAT Nav covers most
  17. Hi Sami The only colour I would definately not have is Black. Why? Having had a black car is is the very devil to keep looking nice it is so easy to create a "Bloom" or kinda haze if you use the wrong polish, don't know why but it seems to only effect black, also the black is non metalic I believe, I prefer metalic paint, and the darker the colour the softer the paint. But in the end it is down to personal choice. Realspeed
  18. Hi mcjj999 Had the same deliberations as yourself X5 or 300SE-L and made the same decision, but Iwas bit biased having had a MK1 300 SE version prior to this. Now done nearly 3000 miles and no problems which is what I have come to expect from Lexus. I don't have bluetooth in mine as I got the 2004 model in Sept 2004 which suits me as I am not into mobile phones etc. What eventually swung it for me was the extremely bad attitude of BMW and the thought of paying for extras which you don't get back in value when selling, as was pointed out to me by another member on here. Taking all into consideration I have come to the conclusion that BMW are trading a lot on the name, and hence shoving a hefty unnecessery premium on their vehicles to the tune of several thousands of pounds. Only thing I have come up against is having bought the Brechin Slate colour, I have ordered a touchup stick and spray but the colour when I ordered it, it did not appear on the service centre computer. Don't know if, like on some toyotas in the past, they wait until they have sold a certain number of that colour before they provide the above items. Reminds me must give them a ring about it in the new year. Did get a bumper plastic guard from Lexus Edinburgh (See other postings about it) and it is one of my better buys, would strongly recommend the product, not the thin plastic film the local dealer offered.(had to be careful to position it correct first time as it can't be removed easily). At least my dogs won't scratch the bumper getting in and out. Oh forgot to say welcome to the club although I am only a member. Realspeed
  19. Can I wish everyone a very happy Christmas and have a great new motoring year. Realspeed
  20. I would suggest staying with a main dealer although it may be a bit more expensive as a log book stamped up with a full main dealer service in it can add a few hundred pounds to the resale value, apart for having a comback if something does go wrong. There is nothing stopping you taking out an extended warantee if it is continuous with the first 3 yrs the manufactures give, or 60,000 and the older the car gets the more parts are going to wear so I honestly believe that a Lexus service is more important than ever. I would rather be driving a car maintained by a Lexus dealer when driving down a motorway at speed than one "serviced" by maybe a supposed qualified motor mechanic anytime, especially if I was carrying loved ones as passangers. Its always better to be safe beforehand than sorry afterwards. Realspeed
  21. Talk about being stupid which I felt I was, but I didn't know. On the RX300SE-L the wing mirrors kept dipping when in reverse to enable sight of the kerb. What I didn't know, but do now, is that if the left/right wing miror selector switch is left on in the right/left position the mirrors will dip, but if the switch is returned to the central (neutral) position they don't. Oh the wonders of the modern motor car. Realspeed
  22. I think its only certain branches of Halfords that have the equipment to mix paints. So I have placed an order with Lexus for a can of spray and a touchup stick they will ring when it comes in. Rather use official supply if possible to ensure the right colour. Realspeed
  23. Just been to Lexus Wolverhampton to get some touch up paint and guess what? the colour Brechan Slate is not even on the computer. Colour code 8R6 so if anyone else has a stone chip or anything with a car of this colour and want to do a touchup repair looks as if for the moment that colour will have to go on order. Realspeed
  24. Have been in contact with Barinder Sodhi Customer Accounts Manager 0845 278 8888 www.lexus.co.uk Regarding map update re M6 toll road pointing out the map is not up to date etc and awaiting reply. At least it has been bought to their attention which can't be a bad thing. Realspeed
