  1. I'm looking for a third car as a cheap run around, a LS400 or 430. This is only an hour from me so if its still on by the weekend I might go and take a look. It seems to good to be true? I really like the DHP wheels so thats a plus even if they need a refurb. I've looked at the MOT history and nothing seems odd. Why would a trader be selling it so cheap?
  2. Its underneath the steering wheel, you have to get your head by the pedals looking up to see it. Pretty far underneath. It is there, from memory, not covered.
  3. Yep you won't be getting anywhere without winter tyres but with them its very good. Had to drive home in the snow on Friday in my car (5.7 Camaro), that wasn't fun on summer tyres Why have Lexus positioned the windscreen vent so it doesn't warm the bottom of the windscreen? Had the wipers frozen again today so they wouldn't clean the screen. Am I mean't to pull them up to the blade change position before driving so they can have a warm part of the windscreen on them to stay supple? Bit of a bad design.
  4. Using the GS today and its been great in the snow. Although we've got winter tyres on it. I think the old 'stick a load of concrete slabs in the back' applies to the 450. The weight of the battery pack over the rear wheels must help with traction. The snow button works well, as already said changing the throttle sensitivity. The one thing I miss that the IS had is a wiper heater. It heated the bottom black section of the windscreen where the wipers sat and helped keep them supple and defrosted/deiced them.
  5. I have seen one in the Flesh driving round my home town of Shrewsbury so they do exist. My wife didn't know why I was so exited, I'm very sad at times!!!
  6. Try using the the gear selector coming down a steep hill. Really does make a difference. I've only started using it in this way on the last couple of bigger journeys in the car, was quite surprised by how much it slows the car down in 4th or 3rd.
  7. Yes in the video I was sent the technician mentioned the rubber gaiter hadn't been seated properly.
  8. Yes, the brake lines looked a bit worse than yours though. I've been told that the calipers are really past it, not just the usual sliders. Pistons are scored as well but I agree usually its just the sliders as we had a IS before the GS and it suffered with sticky calipers cured by greasing the sliders. Getting the car back later this afternoon. All covered by the warranty. Luckily we took out the warranty and service plan not long after buying the car.
  9. They classed them as seized. I think the pistons are corroded. Had a call back and the warranty has covered both calipers and the brake pipe. I think it actually failed the MOT on brake pipe corrosion. Good point on asking for the old calipers back. I've had my money out of the warranty. Aircon was rebuilt last year and now the calipers.
  10. GS is in at Lexus Birmingham for a 60k big service and MOT today. Just had a phone call to say both rear calipers are knackered and one of the brake pipes. Waiting for a phone call back on to see if the warranty will cover it. They priced the calipers are £265 ea fitted so I hope so! Not so sure they will cover the brake pipe though? We will see....
  11. I did what you are planning to do, buying trade and taking out a warranty and Lexus service scheme. I've had to use the warranty as the aircon system stopped working and it took Lexus a full day of stripping it to find out it was down to corroded connections. This would have been a pretty penny if I had to pay for it. Whatever you do get the warranty. If I was buying again though I would buy directly from a Lexus dealership. Its so much less hassle as you'll get a years warranty anyway and the sort the car out properly before sale. Maybe something like this? http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/used-GS/GS-450h/3.5/Stoke-on-Trent/1833775-606136054-1607044.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_
  12. Yep 5W30, http://applications.castrol.com/oilselector/en_gb/c/recommendation?vehicleType=cars&manufacturer=lexus-(eu)&model=gs-s190-(2005-2012)&modelType=gs-450h-(2006-2012)
  13. As others have stated I think you get used to it and start to almost listen out for odd sounds! I agree it is noisy upon start up but once warm its quite. Also you can hear the electric motor if you have the window down and theres no traffic/radio to drown it out. Go back to a non hybrid and have a listen. I went out in my dads 2014 Jag XJ 3.0 V6 diesel the other day, lovely car. Very smooth but you can hear the engine and you really notice it after being used to a hybrid.
  14. I'm in the same boat as Daniel. Came from IS with cooled seats which I thought was a gimmick until we had it. It was a must when looking for a GS. Really makes a difference on hot days.
  15. Yep that's the job. You twist the connector off the back. Theres a spring clip that that holds the bulb in place which is fiddly. Undo that then carefully take the bulb out.
  16. Does the bulb come on then go out or is it completely dead? If it does come on for a short time I would swap the bulbs over, worked for me.
  17. Bizarrely I had the exact same experience with Lexus Stoke earlier in the year. They put a 450 up for sale then decided it wasn't in good enough condition to sell me.
  18. Would the compressor have been covered under warranty if you'd had a warranty with Lexus? I'm just being paranoid now as ours is going in on Wednesday for a aircon service as it stopped blowing cold a few weeks ago.
  19. Anyone got any recommendations on who to use for a re-gas? I need to get ours checked as its stopped blowing cold recently.
  20. This is BS, get onto the warranty company as suggested or I'm sure Lexus must have a customer helpline that I'd be phoning. You are clearly covered for HV battery replacement, no questions.
  21. My best mate has a E39 530i touring sport which he loves. He's had it 6-7 years now. Says it has brilliant build quality. Its a great drive now doubt but reliable? I've known people with more reliable Citroens! It has a lot of different electrical problems as well as seals going dry and cranking, leaking oil. Great cars when they are working but in my experience the rarely don't have some fault!
  22. I've tried to find some as the ones we've got are corroded and only going to get worse. Typical Toyota wheels. I haven't managed to find any. They are quite a rare wheel and people know they can charge a fair whack for them when they do appear.
  23. Hi John, we have the same year of GS. I took the extended warranty out two weeks ago and the service plan over 3 years. I think its well worth it when the cost of major parts on these cars are so high (shocks, gearbox etc). The service plan works by you having a pot of money and then the services being done at a discounted rate paid out of this pot. So if you have a service due soon you may have to pay more a month for the first few months to top this pot up. At least thats the way it was explained to me.
