  1. If its any consolation my RX300 year 2000 Gen1 Looks rusty but isn't! I live in deepest country and mud and s@"*t all over the place, roads more or less always flooded; I only wash it when the windows get too muddy for the wipers to cope with, but when I do (wash it), it gleams and sparkles and all is well in the world. So lives another year....
  2. My Gen 1 year 2000 RX300 is used to water. Where we live roads are always flooded to a foot or two some times and never a problem. Cant be bothered to slow unless there is another car or pedestrian near, then I crawl by!
  3. I am afraid I do not have the TechStream or an oscilloscope! If there is any one out there in the area that has a trip would be worthwhile I am sure.
  4. I don't have Techstream, but a my Autel doesn't show anything nor other OBDII readers. All they show is all wheels doing the same speed!
  5. I am at the stage near to scrapping the car or better still finding someone with the knowhow to disable/delete the ABS facility all together from the car. Anyone? Having driven professionally for over 60 years approx. 50-60k miles per year without ABS I certainly don't need it now!
  6. I am still struggling to get this Low speed issue with ABS kicking in solved. I have also found out that it is a common fault with LEXUS so why is there no solution published The GS 300 and RS 300 and other have the same problem. Is there anyone near Dorset having the same problem? I have now changed all Wheel speed sensors, some reluctor rings, the two speed sensors in the gear box, The ECU and the ABS pump. What's left?
  7. Just another though, would the oil be at fault. It is a 2000 vehicle, with around 130k. I had the car at 30k and transmission oil has not been changed.
  8. The complete ABS module/pump was changed, and my first reaction was that the symptoms are exactly the same. I do not have Techstream but bleeding took the form of doing two handed (footed!) the old fashion way starting at the module bleed nipple then rears then fronts. The process was carried over two days (my own time restrictions) prior to road testing with the outcome being exactly the same as before, nothing changed in any way, apart from my own thoughts and findings over the past year or so that it only happens at very low speed to stop. Lexus Service couldn't find it! I will now try changing the speed sensors on the gear box. I could buy two and change both but i would prefer to do one at a time to determine which is what! My thoughts are to change the COUNTER GEAR SPEED SENSOR first the other one (INPUT TURBINE SPEED SENSOR) sounds to me if it is associated with gear changing. Any thoughts here? As a further observation both sensors LOOK identical from the outside. Becoming familiar with Lexus thinking now; as they are identical and not handed in any way, can I safely assume they are both the same part number?
  9. All wheel speed sensors have been checked/changed as appropriate (Lexus OEM)- no true faults found apart from dirt on the reluctor rings. The ABS pump and the ECU have been changed - no change in operation. So now attention to the only thing left that I know of is the gear box speed sensor(s) Looked through the OEM workshop manual ... there are TWO speed sensors on the gear box, found under the Air Cleaner assy.. one is called a TURBINE Speed sensor and the other is the COUNTER Gear speed sensor ... Neither sensor has shown up in diagnostics. Anyone experienced issues with the gear box sensors (which one?) and/or slow speed (15-12mph) ABS actuating causing a judder and loss of brakes?
  10. Is there a way of clearing the error codes without an Analyser. My Autell only does the engine not the ABS/Brakes. I am not worried as it is lovely driving without ABS but with a MOT looming .....
  11. Now have a replacement. Took readings Through the plastic bag before opening!, and we have 1.057 k/ohm. Any Thoughts? Out of interest I decided to check the N/S one as well. Same as the offside, completely jammed in the hub due to rust and crud, had to destroy the old on to get it out - so here we go again!

I have been quoted £484.56 for the two rear ABS Wheel speed sensors on my RX300 (year 2000) from Lexus - Part# 89545-480 20 (I am sure they quoted me under £170 each a little while ago) I have tried an after market one but not entirely convinced they were suitable as the system went haywire when I fitted one. Thinking it may have been the other rear one I decided to change both however the old ones had to be destroyed to remove them, Rusted in. Any recommendations for replacing theses please?
  13. Does make you think about that! I have now checked the readings again, yes there is a difference on the values required. (year 2000 to 2003). Plug terminal to terminals was just out of spec at 1.09-1.106 k ohm.. (Required 1.5 k ohm - 1.7k ohm) but open circuit to body ground so that puts that sensor back to the supplier as faulty. Got another on order from different source and if that goes gaga then Lexus here I come! (Probably go that way anyway but when after market ones are £15-£30 ... 'nuff said!)
  14. That is worrying, although I will have to refer to my 2000 WSM as knowing Lexus there is bound to be SOME difference. It is a lovely vehicle, reliable and pleasant to drive (All over UK) but when something goes wrong ..... Out of interest Lexus wanted over £180.00 for their sensor!
  15. Yes it was with a professional scanner operated by a skilled tech, that backed up my scanner findings. When the sensor was made ready for replacing it was found badly corroded and broke up easily. I have checked the new one now and found an impedance of 1.075ohms where the assumed correct reading should be nearer 1725 ohms
  16. I had juddering during breaking; a diagnostic check flagged up the sensor. During the removal the old sensor did breakup so internal damage may have been possible. I will (once again) strip the hub down and check. Thank you so much for the information, I had a feeling that there was no need for resetting but never 100% sure on modern cars!
  17. Does one have to reset the ABS System, somehow, after changing a sensor? I ask because I have just replaced the rear O/S sensor and the the ABS is literally going haywire. Brakes are coming on and off at random when accelerating or braking but more worryingly when breaking hard the car will not stop. No ABS or other warning lights are on although VSC did flash on momentary. No lights remain on When the sensor is unplugged all is well; running as if no ABS is fitted, (lovely - I'm in control again!). Obviously VSC,ABS and H/Brake warning lights are on. I have tried the "disconnect the battery for a while" bit but no difference. I am wondering; I ordered the sensor as a rear right. Silly question ... is that right facing the car or right looking from behind - Offside. I want to explore all avenues before I have to send the car in to be looked at (costly) Any help would be very much appreciated. The car is an RX300 year 2000.
  18. Just goes to show you cannot rely on the readouts from the diagnostics. The fault seems to come up at the slightest hic-cup! yet the car runs perfectly. As a note since the exhaust was replaced I have not had any issues, other than ABS playing up but that's another storey! For the curious I have cleaned the relunctor rings? (hub ring?), not sure the correct name for it, but a diagnostic (by others) showed faulty sensor so that is being tackled this week.
  19. I had over a year of problems with MIL lights and so called emission issues. It turned out to be a pin hole (or two) right next to the sensors in the exhaust. We have a local tyre, battery and exhaust place near us in Shaftesbury. They made up a S/S exhaust front to back for about just under £700 (inlsv) and no more exhaust, sensor or MIL issues. That was two years ago. Maybe worth checking in with such a place near you if you have one.

  21. One other thought …. do you tow? is the relay and control wiring OK for the trailer socket?
  22. I would double check your auxiliary drive pulleys. Sounds like a sonic rubber insert breaking up but if I am wrong at least that is one less to worry about
  23. Just for a laugh!!! I tow a Carlight (1600Kg) with my RX300 with a Thule detachable hook and absolutely fine. Living here in the West Country many steep 1:4 hills or worse and we go through every time. Trips up to Cumbria and other far flung reaches; Motorways, great up to legal limits. (why try and beat towing speed records? you don't arrive that much sooner and no extra fuel used) Fuel MPG is as would be expected 24-26+MPG.
  24. I assume the bulbs are 'normal' indicator bulbs. If you replace with LED type that can throw all sorts of problems due to their very low current use. You do need basic filament lamps.

In Dorset we have many flooded roads, many with up to 12" water perhaps more (never got out of car with tape measure!!) and mostly that water is sitting on quite a few inches of mud/farm manure. Never a problem yet but there again; drive accordingly. I don't crawl through but at the same time don't try to get water over the bonnet and winsdscreen. I thought the intension of a SUV was a comfortable off roader Land Rover! The early Range rovers were great and so far RX300 seems OK.
