  1. How big will the 'original design wiper blade group' get🙂
  2. I thought it was just me! I like things to look original and I think the Lexus wipers look better as well so I bought Denso from Car Parts 4 Less see https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/wiper-blades. Same design as OEM and silent with good screen clearance. Good price too.
  3. Thanks Rayaan. This is my first experience of leather seats so I'm getting used to different products and techniques. Help from the Forum is greatly appreciated.
  4. Thanks John. I'll persevere and get some of the sealant too.
  5. Hi all. Thanks for the replies; sorry I haven't replied, been otherwise engaged doing almost 400 miles in my newly serviced car and averaging 39.2mpg:-) Amazing the difference a bit of warm weather makes to fuel consumption! I'll try the water test and also get some of the sealant. My seats aren't perforated but I'm reassured by Rayaans comments about them bleeding so will continue with the Dodo Juice cleaner. Incidentally do you apply with a brush (as per instructions) or a cloth?
  6. Thanks Colin. It's an Advance with standard leather. Is the Dodo Juice sealer the best product to use? I've read in the forums that some companies e.g. AutoGlym only sell a conditioner, which apparently is pointless on a coated leather. I've done a quick search and found people recommending Dodo, Meguiars G3800, GTechniq L1, Wolf Chemicals, Dr Leather Dye Block, LTT Auto Leather Protect, Cow Food so more confused than ever!
  7. Before today I've used a couple of products to clean my cream leather seats; the first one I used was a Leather Master product that we got with some leather chairs. Ok on everything but the dreaded denim stain; it removed a lot of the colour but left a slight blue tinge;. The next one I tried was liquid soap flakes; very cheap, worked well and almost removed the denim stains (just a very faint blue hue as with the Leather Master ). I'd read a lot on this forum and elsewhere about Dodo Juice so thought I'd give it a try to see if it could totally remove the stains. Removed most of the denim stains but probably no more than the other products but as you can see from the photo it also appears to have removed colour! Is this normal? I followed the instructions; tested it in an inconspicuous area (folded down the middle section of the rear seats and tested it on the area hidden when the seats are raised. All seemed ok. So quick squirt on the side of the bolster, used a soft brush to agitate it then removed with a damp cloth and dried with a microfibre. No problems so moved onto the squab and backrest. As the product dripped down the seatback it left a light mark, which I assumed was removing the dirt. So I agitated it and then removed wit the damp cloth. The bucket shows the result. I've still got colour on the seat but it feels different to the other seats; rougher with a 'drag' when I run my hand over it. Question. As there's colour in the water does this mean the coating on the leather has been stripped exposing the colour (can Dodo Juice strip the coating)? Should I apply sealant and if so which one or do I need to take it to a specialist for possible re-colouring. Needless to say I haven't tried the Dodo Juice on any of the other seats. Please no posts saying I should have bought black and extolling the relative merits of black interiors against all other colours known to man! I like light, bright, airy interiors so black is not for me.
  8. So out of sync with the warranty and service book. I wondered if the regenerative braking had an impact; looks like it has quite a significant impact
  9. Thanks Colin; I'd worried after seeing the dealer check sheet that I'd paid for unnecessary work. Do you know if the check sheet that I received with the service documents is a standard Lexus document or is it peculiar to the dealership (Inchcape)
  10. HI Garry. See items in bold re questions. The remainder was just sharing; which usually gets a interesting thread going:-)
  11. Just had the 6 year/60,000 mile service. The report shows front pads at 9.6mm and rears at 8.1 (I've used .4mm front and rear over the last 10,475 miles). My car has done 45,500 and has had no replacement pads in its lifetime (checked this with Lexus). Is this amount of wear usual? If so I calculate that I've got approx. 125,000 miles more to go before the fronts are down to 3mm and 122,000 on the rears before they're down to 3mm (assuming wear is consistent). I've always been light on my brakes but that seems remarkable. And an update on the Cross Climates: The fronts are down to 5.5mm and the rears to 6mm after approx. 15,000 miles (I've worn down approx. 1mm on each tyre in 10,475 miles). I usually change at 3mm so hopefully will get 25 to 30,000 out of them. Incidentally they replaced the spark plugs. I was going to argue they didn't need replacing until 60,000 but as thye gave me approx. 10% discount I didn't bother as it paid a good proportion of the cost of the plugs (£14.12 +VAT each) but not the labour for changing them, however long that is. However, on the Lexus service sheet, which I got with all the other service documentation, it states 'Replace spark plugs every 60,000 miles (platinum/iridium)', which is different to the warranty and service book, which states: 'Spark plugs (Iridium type) Every 60,000miles/6 years*' the asterisk states, 'whichever comes first'. Just out of interest if the spark plugs weren't changed at the frequencies detailed in the warranty and service book would any warranty relating to the spark plugs be invalidated if I'd waited until 60,000 miles, which will probably be in another 18 months/two years.
  12. Bit late to this but I agree with those who say leave it in D or shift to P. In the owners manual for Series 3 RX450h there's a notice stating: "Hybrid battery (traction battery) charge precaution If the shift lever is in N, the hybrid battery (traction battery) will not be charged even when the engine is running. Therefore, if the vehicle is left with the shift lever in N for a long period of time, the hybrid battery (traction battery) will discharge, and this may result in the vehicle not being able to start" I've always left the car in D at lights or when stopped unless it's going to be a long wait e.g. traffic jam and the traffic is unlikely to move fairly soon in which case I shift to P and apply the parking brake. I assume Lexus would advise shifting to P or N if sitting in D had an adverse impact on the vehicle. If I'm parked up listening to the radio I put it in P and follow the tip from a poster in another topic, which is to put the car in EV mode. The radio will run off the hybrid battery for about 20 minutes at which point the engine starts, puts some power into the hybrid battery and then the engine switches off until the battery gets low again. It will keep doing that for as long as you want. There's obviously a slight impact on fuel consumption especially if you are parked up in winter and have heating or seats (or both!) on.
  13. Thanks Colin. I didn't know there was a special grease just for pins. I've looked at the links so will order some once spring comes back: it's raining again!
  14. Thanks all for the very useful replies. I tend to be very easy on brakes so hopefully will get at least 80k. I've had a look on the 'how to' forum on greasing the sliders so that will be one of my jobs now that spring has arrived (hopefully!). Did I read somewhere about using red rubber grease for the slider pins rather than Copper Ease, molybdenum, etc.
  15. I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string question' but on average what sort of mileage do people get out of pads and discs. My 2012 RX has done just shy of 44,000 miles. Still on original pads and discs all round. Very minimal lip on the front discs and rears are even less.
  16. Whoops. I searched for 2018 Lexus and was directed to the US site. I assumed the vehicle they were showing was the new model. If that's the old model for me it's very impressive; so the new model going by Rayaan's post must be amazing
  17. Not to labour the point but the ES is longer and lower than the GS so Duchie is correct. And if Lexus do what every other manufacturer does the new ES will be at least as big if not bigger than the outgoing model. I agree with Rayaans; the new model ES has great looks (better than its anonymous German rivals), a classy interior and the one element that nobody else can match at the price: Lexus build quality. I've had my Lexus almost two years now and I can't think of another make of modern car that I'd rather be in.
  18. Looks like Duchie is correct re dimensions. The Avalon, Camry and ES are all built on the same platform, which is pretty much the same size as the GS platform. If people are quibbling over a couple of mm here or there that's ridiculous; to all intents and purposes the ES is the same size as the GS. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Avalon#XX40 for Avalon dimensions; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_GS#Technical_specifications for GS and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_ES. The ES is slightly longer but has a shorter wheelbase and is 20mm narrower than the GS. Does that really warrant the last response. Please let's keep this forum, interesting, engaging, informative and above all civil. And please feel free to say 'What we know is that'; I'm not offended in any way
  19. Thanks all. The google link is excellent Garry. That makes sense; so if I've got that right when the batteries are sufficiently charged it will use the electric motors at any speed in conjunction with the ICE to reduce the power required from the ICE = better fuel consumption or alternatively give a boost when accelerating. I just had one of those moments when, although I'd seen it lots of times before, I thought; is that to improve economy? Very clever technology. I'm always amazed by how seamless the technology is; in fact I'm always amazed by Lexus!
  20. Probably a silly question but when the display is showing the ICE and motor/s are working at the same time and you're just cruising at sixty on a flat road is that for fuel saving? As my car doesn't have a rev counter I'm not sure what impact it has in terms of revs; do these drop when the electric motor/s kick in? Hope this makes sense!
  21. Now that is impressive; makes my trip to Skegness pale into insignificance! Bizarrely now she's an old lady she's doing longer trips; for the first 10 years or so the longest journey was an annual 100 miles round trip for a service.
  22. Yes John. Absolutely brilliant small car and lots of them around still:-) Just done a 160 mile round trip in mine today it just starts, goes and stops day after day! Adam I definitely wouldn't recommend any French car (apart from 2CV and original DS!) but with a deal like the one Malc mentioned it's probably worth doing as you don't have to worry about the reliability and you'll save a small fortune on insurance. Once the three years is up your son can buy a Toyota or Lexus:-)
  23. Its got to be a 1.3 Yaris. Nippy ,economical and above all reliable. Mine is 17 years old, had an exhaust at 14 years and a battery at 15 years, broken rear spring at 16 years (speed bumps!). In fact buy any Toyota; Lexus are made by Toyota, enough said:-)
  24. Hi Lee. had a very hectic autumn and winter so didn't manage to get it booked in; will hopefully get its sorted in the spring when all of the salt has gone off the roads!
  25. Happy New Year everybody. Pre facelift Advance has different audio spec; definitely not ML:-(. I've attached a pre facelift PDF brochure (hopefully!!) Lexus RX 450h including RX Advance.pdf
