That would be like a diamond cut finish, I believe? Even when lacquered, any minor stone chip will allow moisture ingress under the lacquer, causing the ‘white worm’ effect Powdercoat with lacquer final coat I believe is the most hard wearing -

eBay for all the items you’ve listed -
Personally I think its to do with the fitter rather than the discs themselves, and maybe they didn’t take the time to clean the hubs before fitting the discs. See pics of front hubs on mine, after Paul had given them a good clean up - I thought he was showing me a pic of the discs, not the hubs! Admittedly, I went with genuine Lexus for the fronts, mainly as I see them doing 80% plus of the braking effort; the rears on mine will be APEC, and which served my old W126 SEC very well.

I’ve just bought rear discs/pads/shoes from Mr Wiper - a minor issue after ordering re pads not being in stock, but otherwise fine https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_odkw=ls43&_ssn=mr-wiper&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR9.TRC2.A0.H0.Xls430.TRS0&_nkw=ls430&_sacat=0

I’m a magpie and like shiny things, It was my choice to replace refurb the calipers, not the mechanics. The mechanic would have spent and hour or two cleaning up the pistons and bores, so decided to one step further and get them refurbed. Generally, the more you use the car the less chance of rear calipers needing attention. I’m only doing 2k a year at present, most of that on 5-10 motorway journeys.

My last service with Paul of ToyotaTech highlighted an upcoming need for rear caliper attention, with a sticky action and rusty pistons mentioned. I bought a used pair for £50 and sent them away to Brake Caliper Specialist in Nottingham for their basic strip/blast/repaint/reassemble service. I’d used them before getting some Boxster calipers refurbed, and these turned out fantastically well. Overall i’m pleased with the outcome, however it took much longer than anticipated - their piston and seal supplier failed them on both items, and being contractually obliged to only use them, i had to purchase my own seal kit (from Bigg Red) and get it sent to BCS to expedite the process. BCS of course, removed the cost of seals from the final bill which dropped from £160 to £120 for both rear calipers. These come with a 4yr guarantee and use their standard gunmetal finish. I’ll be supplying them to Paul to fit, along with a APEC discs/pads and handbrake shoes, ahead of MOT expiration in early July. https://www.bcs-automotive.co.uk/ http://biggred.co.uk/

Thanks Steve I'm getting my 'cogwheels' and 'adjusting bolts A/B' mixed up - the above link references cogwheels in Section 2 for adjusting HID vertical alignment, however they don't exist on my 98 car. I adjusted Bolt A clockwise (which was pretty stiff), which lowered the beam, and following the above link, did the same for Bolt B (same number of turns as used on bolt A) I think i'm there as oncoming traffic no longer flash me, however when i get the MOT done next month, i'll ask them to check the headlights before they do the test

Wondering if @Redsteve is still on here? After my suspension change, i think the front end is riding higher than before and have have mis-aligned the headlights as i was getting several flashes from oncoming cars a few nights ago. Section 2 in the link below for HID lights, references a cog wheel A that needs to be released, prior to adjust the the Bolt A (and then replicating the adjustments using Bolt B) Did you have to do this, as you've not mentioned this above? The release for Cog Wheel A is a bit stiff on mine, so wanted to check before potentially breaking something. http://lexus-doc(blocked word)/ileaf/lex98rm/98rmsour/1998/98ls400r/be/hatsy/adju.pdf Also - based on Steve's details above, i made the adjustments to Bolt A before releasing the lock on Cog wheel A - so unclear now if this means i didn't actually achieve anything!

Yes, i like the modular approach they offer - the mid and rear sections are not cheap at £800 for both (retaining all 4 silencers) so just as well, however cheaper for the slightly sportier setups with only 2 silencers. I was told the silencers would be made to order hence the expense, however it would offer factory levels of refinement. I'm still smiling at how quiet it is. You have to rev it over 4k to hear it.

My mk4 has had a leaking y-pipe to cat join and a hole in the y-pipe since purchase in Jan 2017. I think winter has taken its toll as it’s become gradually louder and louder. As there was another thread recommending Powerflow, I took it the branch in Slough who have some excellent feedback. Unfortunately they could not match the £200 quoted by other chaps , in fact it came to twice this at £400 for a replacement y-pipe, and removal of the single silencer So not cheap, but compares well to the standard Lexus item at £380 + vat. I was fearing the worst re interior noise with the extra silencer removed, but it’s so much quieter now with the flanges sealed and the hole in the y-pipe (under the heat shield) and the hole in the silencer removed. Performance has picked up too, it’s much more responsive at low rpms and doesn’t get bogged down. The new pipework is 2.25” versus the 2” pipe of the original, may this has something to do with it? I can’t believe how quiet it is now - both at town and motorway speeds. It’s inaudible at idle, very Lexus-ish. Anyway, not cheap but it works really well plus the fitters are only 30mins away should I have any issues (lifetime warranty in my ownership). I may get the rest of the pipework done as and when.

Those are DHP wheels, not a direct comparison unfortunately as much rarer
