  1. A word of warning from someone whose ownership experience has not been as enjoyable as it could have been. I bought an 05 plate early 3rd gen GS300 last year, 105k on the clock, full service history (Lexus dealer up to 80k), for £4k. Car looked like a gem, had never failed an MOT, drove beautifully and had obviously been well looked after. However since then it has cost me another £1500: £700 on 2 gearbox solenoids and a fluid flush to sort out a gearbox fault that rendered the car almost undriveable. £600 on a cat-back stainless exhaust system (Lexus wanted £1200 for the mild steel OEM bits!) Another £200 on a stainless mid section. Basically once one bit of the exhaust starts rotting, it seems to trigger the next section to fail. I'm also having cat issues at the moment with a P0420 code popping up every trip. Looking very likely I will have to replace the manifold cats, which will cost the best part of another £1200 The above prices are me shopping around, being as canny as I can and avoiding Lexus OEM if at all possible. And that's a big 'if' - I've owned numerous makes of car and I've never known a brand who have locked down the parts market as well as Lexus have. Apart from basic service parts, it's nigh on impossible to get anything from anywhere other than Lexus themselves - and their prices are seriously high. That £1500 I mentioned earlier would have been more like £2500 if I'd accepted that Lexus themselves were the only solution. I bought the car because of Lexus' reputation for reliability, but I regret it and I wouldn't buy another. I'm going to spend whatever necessary to fix the current cat issue, get it MOTed next month, and sell it. It's a beautiful car, lovely to drive, but if I keep it I will be in constant fear of the next expensive issue. Sent from my FRD-L09 using Tapatalk
  2. Went to TGS in Stockport, he cut out the rusted mid box and replaced it with a lovely stainless one, hooked up to the stainless rear silencers I already had. So, I can now say I have a full cat-back stainless system. He said the secondary cats where in good nick, so I'm happy. £160, nice. Well, I say happy, still need to sort out the P0420 code and looks like the primary cats are failing. I feel another thread coming on! Sent from my FRD-L09 using Tapatalk
  3. Cheers guys, do the custom places include the secondary cats in the midsections they build? If not, and I do away with the secondary cats, will the primary cats be working harder? And is it legal to remove cats, even if they are secondary? So many questions! [emoji3] Sent from my FRD-L09 using Tapatalk
  4. My 2005 GS300 MK3 needs a new mid section - the Y piece with the 2 secondary cats. Too corroded to weld apparently, starting to blow quite badly. So the only place I can find to get a new one is Lexus themselves, and they want 793 frickin quid. And that's the trade price. That is ridiculous! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to replace this section of the exhaust for a more sensible price? Im pretty sure none of us would be happy to pay that much for 2 steel pipes and a couple of tiny cats. Someone must have a cheaper solution? All ideas gratefully received! 5. Hi all, I think I've searched all the past threads about adjusting the low beam headlights, but can't find the answers I need. I too find my low beam falls way too short, so am trying to figure out how to adjust the beam vertically. I've found the 2 wheels that are turned using a screwdriver - on each light, there's 1 near the radiator (I'll call it the inner) and 1 near the wheel arch (the outer). I can't figure out what to do with them though! I've turned them both in both directions loads of turns, and nothing seems to happen. So, my questions are: What does the inner adjuster do, and what does the outer one do? Do I need to adjust both to raise the beam? What direction do I turn the screwdriver to raise the beam? As if I'm tightening the 'screw', or as if I'm loosening it? All advice gratefully received, thanks in advance! Sent from my FRD-L09 using Tapatalk
  6. Hi all My 05 GS300 will be needing a service soon, and the main stealers prices are ludicrous. I cant find a specialist Lexus indie in the Manchester area, so thought Id ask the group. Does anyone know of a garage in the South Manchester / Warrington areas who they'd recommend for servicing Lexuses (Lexi?) at reasonable prices? Cheers in advance Adam

Hi guys Thanks for the welcome. Took delivery of her last night, so far very happy - 105K on the clock, but with a full service history and a stack of paperwork. She drives sweet as a nut and Im loving all the toys. Will take a couple of pics and post them soon. And the tape deck will be very useful as a cheap means to plug my phone in so I can listen to my tunes and Radio 6 - Ive ordered an aux-in cassette converter and am hoping will provide decent enough sound quality. Hi all Just about to take delivery of a pristine 2005 GS300 SE-L, really looking forward to being a Lexus owner, the test drive seriously impressed me. Hopefully won't be posting too often, the Lexus reputation for reliability is why I bought one! And it's got a tape deck!
