  1. Hi all. So the MK3 has felt a little strange on the front end for a while now, thought it was tracking or bush, but while changing wheels yesterday it's obvious I have a badly sticking caliper on the drivers side. No big issue, just ordered EBC pads, already have full set of EBC disks in the garage, but also have a replacement set of the big calipers I bought a couple of years ago from Texas, so perfect condition dry state parts, delivered to my door for less than 1 side from UK. Now I have changed calipers before on older cars, not too difficult. Anyone know of any complications I may find with the GS? Special tools, methods etc? Thanks.
  2. Well I spoke to my garage today - Delmore in Norwich, the only place I ever take my car's - and have had confirmed that it will not fail MOT for this as you guys said, so a small win. So next port of call now I've been reminded there is a switch to change what tyre set is on it, is to put the other wheels back on and rule out all 4 of the winter ones being dead. So I've ordered some brake pads, then I'll swap the sticking caliper and swap wheels at the same time. Watch this space!
  3. Right. Button located, pressed and initialisation attempted and failed, same thing tried several times in each position, still flashy lights 😞
  4. Moss I'm trying to remember what it looked like when I initially programmed them all, I have a feeling it only shows the codes for the set of tyres the car is expecting.
  5. Hi Sami. Great comment. So I guess no, I have been pressing the one under the steering column, I didn't know or had forgotten if there is a second button, so I'll try that this morning and report. So I don't know if it's errors or no Comms. When I had the winter tyres put on I got all New sensors, noted the codes and I know it's the right codes on the screen for this set of wheels. Plus all was fine with this set before I swapped to summer wheels. The summer wheels, again I had new sensors put in and all was fine for months. Biggest worry is techstream that will not even open the TPMS utility to program, just says can't communicate. No tire place I've been to in Norwich seems to have the Lexus capabilities, do you know if that scanner you were talking about is a general thing? I may have to make a couple of calls. Thanks Sami..
  6. Ok guys I appreciate your comments, I'll have a chat with the MOT guy before I book again. I have to do the brakes first anyway, as have a sticky caliper I noticed today that I have to sort, luckily I have spare ones. But I'd still really like to be able to sort the TPMS anyway, so any knowledge please let me know. 😀
  7. Thing is I thought this too, but MOT places say that red warning light on dash is a fail, and as far as I know there is no way to disable it fully. On another note, I am rather OCD and would really like get rid of the big red light and the flashing yellow one that comes with this fault.
  8. Hi folks. Been having issues with my TPMS recently, just changed my wheels for the winter ones today (ready for MOT tomorrow that I've had to cancel now) thinking it was a dead sensor in one of the other wheels, but the problem persists. I've tried using the button under the dash next to OBD port, it says initialise but fault remains.tried in in both positions many times over but always the same. All sensors in both sets of wheels are less than 2 years old. I've plugged my techstream laptop, the codes are saved, but error comes up when I try and communicate with the ECU. So I can't change any codes, plus I can't do the signal check. So this leaves me thinking,it could be the switch, ECU itself or antenna. I don't know much at all about this system, so I'm unsure what is most likely, where things like antenna and ECU are located or if there is something else it could be?? Do any of you clever folks know anything and are able to put me on the right track?? Error code and screen shots from techstream attached. Thanks all.
  9. I suppose I should add... If I get an actual GS300 replacement I'm looking at 1k plus for low mileage, but I can find low mileage IS250 ones for half that.
  10. Afternoon all. I'm still after a year or two thinking about it, looking to sort my GS300 box, it's the weak point and really just a matter of time till it takes the car off the road. Refurbishing isn't an option, just too expensive considering the value of the car, so I'm looking at getting a low mileage salvage box to pop in and have found several of the 6 speeds around. It's an A960e, and this was also in a few other models, one of those being the IS250. But I'm really confused over part numbers, good old Wikipedia only shows one entry for the A960e, but each seems to have a different part number. I believe the one in mine will be a 35010-30b20, but the sticker on the IS box says 35010-53100, what if any difference is there? Also, in terms of bolt patterns and overall fitting with the ECU, is there any chance an AA80e 8 speed from the LS would fit and work? Would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks
  11. Appreciate the honest reply John, I can't find anywhere near me I'd class as a Lexus specialist, Roys Motor Co kind of advertises itself as such, but I've been there and I don't believe they would touch the box any more than a drain and fill.Anyone know a please near Norwich? I'm wondering as I've seen a few cheap low mileage damaged IS250's around, I think the auto is the same box, the code is 35010 53150, does this translate to A960e?
  12. I've had my 2005 GS300 for about three years now, last two I've been treating wit kid gloves as I'm pretty sure the box is on its way out, my quandary has been just what I do about it. It's a lovely old best, deep green, SE spec with IS250 staggered 18's and OEM spoiler added, front end respray and is as close to mint as you'll get for 176k, I really would love o keep her for several more years. As far as I can see from the history, there has been no fluid change on the box, I got my friendly garage to do a sump off drain, new filter and gasket that I provided and I bought about 6 liters of WS as well to top it up and for another drain at some point. I think that did improved it slightly, slipped initially but once I had cleared the ECU it did feel just a little better. Now it's not like it slips badly of misses gears now anyway, but it's obvious to me that it doesn't change as smoothly as it did, sometimes really lumping in, sometimes pics a really high gear at low speed and labors so I have to use manual for a bit. Another thing is a couple of times in reverse i has vibrated, but literally only been three times that I remember. Lastly, and I don't know if this is even an issue, but there is a lot of heat from the car, they may just be like this but never had that from any other car. Whenever I've looked on ebay or the like and seen cheap GS's, the only issues other than damage or poor condition have been gearbox related, so It's probably the only common issue with these. As far as I can see I have four choices. 1. Find a garage to try a fluid flush - my friendly garage here in Norwich I've used for years and trust 100% may not be able to do this, I think they need a particular machine to flush, so where would I go to do it? 2. Gearbox recon, but I'm looking at around 2.5k for that and not many places seem to do these. 3. Replacement box from a lover mileage GS or IS, get my garage to just swap them 4. The long shot! Get an AA80 from a crashed LS460, 8 speed and stronger than the A960e from what I've read, should fit in as the GS460 has it in. Would this fit up to the 3.0? Would it b as simple as fitting and swapping the trans ECU or will there be other issues. I'm happy spannering the basics on my own car, servicing, brakes and other bits no worries, get a tech stream laptop so I can do TPMS etc, but anything to do with the trans is well out of my technical capability and would never be possible on axle stands in my drive. I'm really at a loose end here, I love my car, do very few miles but it's essential that it works reliably and I don't know anyone who knows these cars well enough for things like this in Norwich. Also I have no budget for this, anything I end up spending will have to be borrowed, so I'm keen to find a quality solution that doesn't flex my wallet. I know, I know, why have a car like this if you can't afford to maintain it, why spend money on something that isn't worth that much, but I love it. Suggestions, ideas, maybe a genie to grant me some wishes, what do you think?
  13. Ignore the mileage, means nothing on these if the history and condition is good. SE or SE-L? The 300 for the reasons above, but at the same money you may kick yourself if you miss out on the 450. Is it too cheap tho, should cost you more than a 300, specially new batteries. What's the damage?
  14. I was in this position 18 months ago, had done my research and decided a GS was the car I wanted, but which one. I did my usual thing of looking at worst case scenario and came to the 300, took a few months to find 'the one', haven't looked back. 450 - I decided that as I wanted to do some DIY, have normal garages work on my car and didn't need the extra performance it was not necessary. Looking at the batteries and electrical systems, active suspension and the fact economy difference doesn't warrant the extra initial cost. 430 - lush V8, but active suspension again, cam belt and more rarity. 460 - super rare, would have taken any compromise to own one! 300 - timing chain, normal shocks, still hits 60 in 7 seconds and can dent your licence if you're not careful. No hybrid gubbins, tax no worse that 450 as long as you get an 05 or 55. Plus I got an Se, has 17 inch wheels for softer ride and cheaper tyres. Only thing I'd say is transmission. Check it's smooth, as I have seen several 6 speeds, V6 and V8 that have problems with the box. Budget a few hundred quid for a trans filter, 3l of WS fluid and a couple of hours independent garage time for a drain and fill to keep it sweet. Also, unplug the battery for a bit, put it in learning mode and you'll get best economy for your driving style. Then pre-empt problems, get intimate with eBay and you can save a shed load. I'm searching every day, have a full set of new EBC disks in my garage for less than 50 quid, salvage front calipers bought and posted from Texas (!) for less than 150, 4 new TPMS for less than 40. I use good part worn premium tyres, plus I now have techstream, and all this added together makes her really cheap to own as my commuter car. But whichever you choose, it'll be better than any German equivalent!
  15. I'd agree that they are probably very well engineered and very capable, but I don't think in the 'real world ' that makes much difference. On public roads would am M be any better than 20d, unless you drive like a tool endangering others, so you'd have to go to a track to make any use of either. I sound like my dad! But also, it's that things like the M's and AMG's say more about the owner than the car itself. Each to their own of course, with complete respect, but I'd rather keep my license and get let out of side roads. However I prefer the newer BMW's to previous gens, the design is getting better.
  16. Well then, put me at the top of your list. I'll even help you pick out the replacements! 🙂

    tyre leak

Hi. Had exactly the same thing on my wheels, all the same possible causes, but changing sensors sorted the problem. I managed to get 4 unused sensors for less than 40 squid off the bay, good deals do pop up here and there. Otherwise I have seen service kits on there for about 8, but if your sensors are old you may as well just change them out.
  18. Awesome! Please tell me they're staggered?!?
  19. Hello again all, not been around sadly but getting back on board now. Had my lovely 300 for over a year now, still besotted and glad I chose it. She's coming out of the bodyshop tomorrow, after some guy dented her wing I've had a work contact give her a going over. As well as the wing I've had the bonnet and front bumper done, plus the SE-L lip spoiler added, had a quick look today and she looks really nice! Still need the Borbet TTE's to finish it off though, if anyone knows of any for sale I'd love to know! Gearbox went a bit clunky soon after getting her, drove it for ages before deciding to have a drain and fill done a few weeks ago. Bought the right fluid and a filter, used a garage I know to do the job with me assisting. After it felt quite slippy gear to gear, thought I had screwed it up, but pulled the battery for an hour and she seems a lot better now, just clicked over 170k. Also finally got my techstream working, had all new sensors fitted and programmed the codes myself. No warning lights anymore! God bless techstream!..
  20. Hello again all. had an issue with passenger front door lock when I got car, £22.50 part from eBay, two hours taking the door apart and all sorted. did my service on Monday, 6l of Millers nannotech 5w30 and a K&N oil filter. Didn't have the tool for the filter housing, but a hammer came to the rescue! Would like to do the ecu reset now, saw something about taking two fuses out to reset engine and gearbox, anyone know which fuses I'm after?
  21. Has anyone got and used this software? I have seen a few free downloads and wondered if it would be useful for me as a DIYer?
