  1. Well aware of that - I'll have to check the history, I think it has been replaced, but I'll have it checked. Thanks again.
  2. Thanks Colin, I'll check that. New to the RX which I bought in March. It's been a great car, this is the first issue. It rattles and ticks over lumpy when climate is on, seems ok when climate off. Will check battery thank you.
  3. Thanks BachelorDays, that's what I was hoping and seems a good starting point. The MAF will be original, so 10 years and 125k miles, I read on a USA forum that 100-120k is around the time they go if they will. My car is so super smooth and quiet, but I have noticed over the last few weeks when pulled up at traffic lights the engine keeps running a bit longer than it used to and when it stops you can feel a judder, like when the timing or mixture is out, so what you say makes sense. Just ordered some MAF sensor cleaner from Amazon so we will see. Also looked on YouTube and saw various vids on cleaning and error codes. Found this one helpful for the info on error codes... Cheers
  4. Hi. My trusty RX400h (2008, 125k) engine light came on this morning half a mile from home, so I went back and parked it. This afternoon OBD2 reader gave me the error codes in the title. I noticed recently the engine was cutting in more often when stopped at lights etc so I'd turn off the aircon. Also noticed (ie could feel) the engine cutting out when stopped - not imperceptible as it has been. Whilst getting the readings, I now notice the engine stops when I turn off climate control and starts up when I turn it on. The engine starts almost as soon as you switch the car on, so I'm fairly sure the issue is as per the codes. The engine sounds rough idling with climate control on and smoother with it off. My question is... would the P0102 fault trigger the rest to fail or visa versa, or am I looking at replacing all the sensors, which might as well include Bank 1 Sensor 2 which is not showing an error yet. Attached is a picture of the codes. How difficult and expensive is it to do the work myself? Thanks in advance!
  5. How is you driving style and what speed do you cruise at - both have huge impact on mpg. I get on average 33-34mpg from my 2008 400h. I have one of the lightest right feet in the uk!! I do a mix of town, country roads and dual carriageway. I cruise between 65 and 70. On one country road I use every week with 40 and 50 speed limits I get over 50mpg but it is flat and slopes in my favour! Agree fast cruising doesn’t get the best from the hybrid system but the batteries boost performance all the time - if not you’d be getting low 20s mpg. I’ve been running on battery at 65mpg - it’s great! Learning to use the car’s weight is a must. I take my foot off as often as I can. Avoid floating the throttle as this keeps the engine running. If you see a corner or a junction coming up, foot off and let the car coast along, you’ll be amazed how long it goes without much slowing down- the car is designed for this and you charge the battery. Same with gradients, coast onto it and let the gradient build up speed. It’s fun learning little tricks. Even Hamilton backs off early to get the most from his F1 hybrid system - ok, a millisecond, but look how quick he is! You can’t complain at your 3.5lr V6 petrol giving you 32, ask the Range Rover owners!! Nice pic too - I like that model, think the new ones are just too big. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I’ve had a Smart Car. Not only was it not smart, it only got mid 30’s to the gallon and that was with I light right foot. It was like driving a thirsty brick! I get between 33-34 mpg from my RX400. I hear what you say about paying thousands by my 10yr old 120k with history cost me £6500 rather than £46k new. I recon that’s a bargain! Everything works bar the self levelling lights but that’s not a difficult fix. I’ve always bought high spec older cars - previous owners take the depreciation hit and you get heaps of car for very little cost. The gamble is reliability but if you have good history not just stamps in the book you can usually get a good-un. I’d never let a car get too low on fuel, what’s the point, you’re gonna have to fill up anyway! The book advises not to go below 1/4 tank. I’m happy with that. Sometimes I turn the radio right down and listen to - well - nothing, even with the engine. Love the RX! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Just to add to the fun as no-one seems to have an answer other than a software or aux battery issue, On Tuesday I switched on my 2008 and the dash lit up like a disco. Settled on the Check Hybrid System, engine and VSC warning lights. Stopped, switched off and back on and the VSC warning was off. I'd done a 12 mile and 16 mile journey in the day. Drove home 11 miles checking battery data, everything working fine. At home I switched on again and all clear. No issues since. Not cold, not left standing. Everything works.
  8. Hi all. Picked up an ‘08 SE-L last weekend which I’m really pleased with. The AFS light is flashing and not working so whilst I wait for the weather to remove the sensor I’ve heard there is a headlight adjuster. At the moment the lights go through their up down sequence but then settle pointing way too low. I want to raise them manually for the short term. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Haha, the Lexus one seems to fail often so doesn’t offer much hope for my namesakes one!! I was thinking of using sealant but if there was an easy source for the o ring I’d have got one. I’ll give it a try as soon as the weather permits. Will check ball joints not seized too. Thanks for the info - is there a uk stockist? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Keep looking! And try for an SE-L to get more toys. I looked for ages, gave up, bought something else, didn’t cure my wanting an RX, so bought one last week (2008 face lift). All the advice really sound. Mine has a failed AFS (flashing warning light on dash) but it’s an easy fix and not a deal breaker as it only turns and self levels the headlights which wasn’t a problem for me. No leak issues. I booked a comprehensive engineers report thru Click Mechanic as the car was 200 miles away and mechanically it was excellent, minor scuffs which I’ll get fixed. I’d allow for getting the wheels refurbished as they will be in a poor state - seems Lexus can’t make rust proof alloys! Have to say I’m still smiling a week later and have 33mpg average so far so I’m very happy (more mpg in summer as less heater which needs the engine). Good history is essential. 11. Read somewhere on a different thread about replacing the O ring at the same time you sort the switch and they gave a supplier link. Anyone seen it please? Just picked up an ‘08 400h with the issue, otherwise super happy with it. Thanks guys.
  12. Thanks GSLV6, I agree. I reckoned at least £1000-£1500. What I'm more disappointed in is the fact this is a one owner car with documented service history and the consensus is newer high miles with history is the way to go. It just goes to show, the day-to-day love and care is as important as an annual service. I'm getting tired looking! Older low miles much loved with more owners... A mate says one owner cars are worse than multi owner cars cos each new owner lavishes attention on it whereas single owners get bored and let things slide.
  13. Haha, agree. I've travelled 250 miles to buy a vehicle. Need to be sure it's ok tho!
  14. OK, so ClickMechanic have done the report (highly recommend) which was emailed as soon as the inspection was complete - impressive. It brought up a good deal more than I expected, especially for a well maintained by Lexus vehicle. The following came up... - One tyre and all alloys (which I knew and had allowed for) - Sun roof not opening - Headlamp washers not working - CD player not working - Age related and other scratches chips and scuffs to bodywork - Overdue a service, oil and coolant levels low. (Hybrid coolant OK) - Rear gaiters on all shockers are damaged, this will need attending to before major damage is caused - O/S rear disc is grooved badly, All pads are now low. Everything else is 'good'. No corrosion, engine, gearbox, clutch, exhaust, zircon, steering, chassis etc. Any idea as to cost for sorting this? My gut feeling is the previous owner got fed up of spending out and has run it until it needed to go. The last Lexus service was Feb 2016 at 137k, it's done 20k since then. I think I can find better? Seems like electrics are playing up.
  15. Very sound advice thank you. I am having a pre purchase check today on a 2008 SE. Not an SE-L but I need to get my life back! Pretty much ticks all the boxes so I'll keep you all posted. Full Lexus history at my local dealer, one owner all receipts and hybrid health check. 156k miles, £4995. As I have such a tight budget I reckon the history outways the lack of ML sound system, satnav and rear camera. Satnav is weak and I can retro fit a camera if I want. Will keep you posted!
  16. I've seen some of those Julian - not got children now so the rear screens are a bit wasted on me! Agree with what you say thanks. The RX certainly seems pretty bullet proof. Quite like the RS but the tiny boot is a deal breaker.
  17. Hi. Been looking for an SE-L for months now and seem to have confused myself! Just changed jobs and expect to be doing 10k miles a year. I'm not concerned with rear DVD screens but want the Mark Levinson sound system. Started looking for black/grey paint and beige leather but then liked the silver paint/pale grey leather. Now not adverse to black leather - certainly keeps cleaner. Stretched leather on drivers seat lets down a lot of examples. So high miles newer or low miles older is the real issue. My budget is £6500 tops and prefer Lexus history. Loads out there, many not sold for months which can't be good for the batteries. High milers likely to be on motorway - how good or bad it that for the hybrid? Low milers and older more likely to be urban dwellers so more use of hybrid and brakes, which is better (?) but more wear on components. We have a boat to tow occasionally so a tow bar a bonus but may indicate heavy use so happy to fit one Im getting to the point where I have to make a decision so hope you guys can offer some pointers. Thanks.
  18. Where did you buy that? That's a very good price!
