  1. thanks everyone. will keep you posted on what happens next. incidentally, the said dunlop tyre was mounted on alloy that has some corrosion. All the others are pristine, I'm hoping they will swap the alloy too.
  2. Greeting everyone. Finally got my IS300 LE granite sky. The car is simply superb. Did have an IS200 couple of years ago, but had an arguement with the roadside barrier and I lost. Finally saved up enough for a better one. Between the two, I'd pick the IS300 any day. Unforfunately, whilst out shopping, I noticed that the tyre groves were different on the nearside front tyre. I appears that I have a Dunlop tyre in one corner, and Bridestone in three. I was told the car had new tyres all round when I bought it. I know, I should have checked, plain silly. Then I checked the spare tyre, and it's also a Dunlop, but more worryingly, the shoulder has worn out and would not be legal. If I was unfortunate enough to suffer a puncture, did Lexus expect me to drive on with an illegal tyre? Not impressed. I called the dealership, Lexus Cardiff, Mr White will check with the workshop on monday, and in the mean time, he better come up with a plan to remedy the situation. Rant over. Again, such a cracking car.
  3. still waiting for the insurance company to get back to me regarding repair/write off. IMO it's a write off. Still don't understand how i survived without any injuries at all. A lesser car and I might not be here today. :( Police was at the scene less than 2 minutes, they were patrolling around the corner. I said I was the driver and they didn't believe me, went around asking witnesses where the driver has gone.....
  4. good news is, the cd player still works, got all my cds out, took out the carpets and the gearnob as momento the engine bay looks fine, the engine is left untouched hum... not quite sure how to upload pics properly...
  5. some pics... http://www.ofoto.co.uk/PhotoView.jsp?&coll...oid=32893292733 http://www.ofoto.co.uk/PhotoView.jsp?&coll...oid=35573292733 http://www.ofoto.co.uk/PhotoView.jsp?&coll...oid=99893292733 http://www.ofoto.co.uk/PhotoView.jsp?&coll...oid=74683292733 http://www.ofoto.co.uk/PhotoView.jsp?&coll...oid=74393292733
  6. Sad to say, I've just managed to write off my car. Coming around a corner, the back end lost it, over compensated and went straight into a barrier. The front end is totally smashed. Definate write off. But, walked away without a single scratch. Looking to change to a diesel anyway..... so, so long everyone, enjoyed my stay here. cheers. p/s will post some pics once i've been to the recovery site.
  7. em......guilty as charged, your honour. I guess, I just looked at the tyres during my monthly car wash, and that was just "looking". Never thought of checking the whole tyre (inner and outer edge). Will do so from now on. Thanks for reminding me. :) cheers.
  8. yes i did check the tyres at home. Coz i just didn't believe him in the first place. Both front tryes were almost bold on the inside edge...... unless they changed it during service............... anyhow, got me new rubbers.... curious, I find that the car feels different after the service. The gearchange is much smoother (was having the "clunk" 2+3 gear effect prior to service), steering more feel to it. Quite sure they didn't change any of these component in the service. I was expecting the engine to be smoother after an oil change... but didn't feel any difference.... will see how it gets on in the next few days.... p/s took Lexus Cardiff 3 hours to change 2 tyres and do an alignment check, didn't even valet the car!!!
  9. just had my tyres changed. Also an alignment check. They were spot on. Maybe I should not be going around round about at my usual 65mph from now on....
  10. Been shopping around for tyres... bridgestone potenza 215/45/r17, all quoted ~140-150 including fiiting each. just phoned cardiff lexus, they'll get both changed from 300, including vat and lazer alignment. Damn... another 300 down the drain, and just before christmas...
  11. Just had my first service with Cardiff Lexus today. £130.00. I thought it's not cheap but not that expensive. My girlfriend has a Seat Ibiza, had a intermediate service which cost £200. ( without valet). Then I was hit by the news that both my front tyres needed changing. The inside track of both front tyres are now 0.5mm, the right side is even worse, almost bold, but the outside edge is still 4-5mm thick. The rear tyres are still in good shape, about 5mm tread left. I thought that was a bit odd, and seeing that my car is only 9800 miles, it is literally eating my tyres. I've been quoted £240 for the pair including fitting. (Qwik fit, National etc, quoted 300 for the pair) The service manager says it's normal for ISs to wear the front tyres, esp the inside edge. questions: how often do you need to buy new rubber? is the pattern of wear normal for ISs? p/s also test drove a IS300 today, very nice, lots of toys, Sat Nav, HID lights, full leather, arm rest, auto dim rear view, VSC, Slip Diff, cruise...... and the smooth power delivery.... gotto get one one day.... i didfind the steering was much heavier, maybe because it only has 2000 miles on.... cheers
  12. I'm not in IT as well. 27, ENT surgeon. Love my car IS200, will be test driving an IS300 on monday.....:)
  13. the only complaint i have twith the car is the fuel economy. I was driving like a granny initially when i just bought my car. Now I routinely cruise at 85-90. A full tank gives me 350-380 miles. That's less than what you get from a Boxter S (27.2mpg officially)
  14. I get about 400-420 miles per tankful using optimax. does about 30 miles per day on 80% motorway doing about 80mph. think it's not too bad. about 25mpg i think. but my car is still less than 6 months old, does that make a difference?
  15. I think i'll drop mr Ganpot a line and point him to this site and TTE's official site, and see what he thinks?
  16. I've asked Lexus GB regarding installing TTE supercharger kit and body kit. This is what they have to say... Thank you for your email requesting information on how to fit a TTE Compressor and sports body kit. Unfortunately Lexus do not recommend that you install a TTE and a Sports kit. The main reason being is because the car is not manufactured in the way that it can retro fit one. The engine will not be able to take it and you will notice a difference in the way the car is run. I hope you find this information helpful. If I can be of any further help or assistance then please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind Regards Bhavi Ganpot Customer Accounts Manager www.lexus.co.uk 0845 278 8888 Hum..... even body kits are not recommended? what is he talking about? Car not manufactured to have these kits retrofitted? I think they have no idea what is happening outside their 'lexus-world'... how sad
  17. just can't understand this blinking british weather.... been waiting for 2 weeks for a break to nicely done up my car.... this morning i had to put my shades on.. not a cloud in sight :zee: so, got my carin the shade next to the house, washed it, nice! Stage 1 done....cool Stage 2 just applied to polish on the entire car... suddenly, the sun's gone, then thunder claps... No Jokes! Now my car is covered in meguiar's stage 2 polish AND soaking wet!!! :duh: *% :tsktsk: **$&"($& :tsktsk: typical, just typical anyone had similar experience, want should i do now? do i wait for polish to dry naturally or should i do something different? any idea? must get myself a garage!
  18. My car is now just shy of 1 months old. Already the bonnet had to be resprayed (FOC by the dealer) Picked up my car last week after the respray, drove to Nottingham and back. Washed my car today, there were already 2 new stone chips on the bonnet and 4 on the bumper. This is pathetic!! 300 miles on the motorway = 6 stone chips Wondering if anyone had the 3M Xpel film installed? supposedly guard against stone chips. Are they any good? How much would they cost? Whats your weapon againts stone chips, beside driving like an old lady? cheers :)
  19. Finally picked up my car today, the paint job was excellent, like new and FOC They did fit the anti-roll bar. Almost gave the guy at service a heart attack when i joke about bringing in a supercharger kit.
  20. called the dealer today, and yeap, they are repraying the WHOLE bonnet just because it has a small 'bump' and a stone chip. FOC. pretty impressed with that. :) And they will fit the TTE antitoll bars for me for an hours labour cost, but they are still very jumpy about the possible effects on the suspension, tracking etc etc... I think they just don't want to be liable if anything goes wrong :duh: will pick up the car tomorrow, and in the mean time, quite impressed with the loan car, is an automatic, comfortable little car, but i think i'll stick to the manual box. Somehow, an auto turns the car into a bird's car, what do you think?
  21. Picked up my 6months old 03 pre-reg IS200 SE Astral black with 6 miles on the clock 3 weeks ago. done 700 miles so far, already there is a sizable stone chip on the bonnet I;ve read that Lexus paint work isn't that great, but this is quite shocking. Am i just unlucky or they are that weak? Further more, there is a small 'bump' over the bonnet where the bonnet support is fixed, if you know what i mean. The car is now back with the dealer to iron out the bump and hopefully they could do a good job and fix the stone chip at the same time. Further more, I bought a set of TTE anti-roll bars, asked the dealer (Cardiff Lexus)to fit it for me. They say they had to check with head office, not sure about warranty and 'possible alteration with the handling quality of the car' WHAT I thought that was the whole point! Told them that these are toyota approved parts, shouldn't affect the warranty. I even had to tell them how it is done. i.e. take under car cover off, take old bars off, put new bars on, and everthing should fit like a glove. They will get back to me tomorrow. They loan me an LE in the mean time, That HID headlight was awesome, like the auto dimming rear view mirror too. I think i should have waited for Sports with SatNav,full leather with HID lights, body kits, reverse sensors, 25 inch wheels, 300bhp engine modifications, projector video onto the roof, along with that girl working in finance :)
  22. Looks cool. I would very much like one. Any progress ?
  23. hi there. Bought the TTE set last week. Planning to have it fitted sometime this week. Just wondering if fitting it will affect my warranty with Lexus? as my car is still less than 3 years old. and secondly, do you think my dealer (Cardiff Lexus) would be happy to fit it for me :) ? as i don't seems to be able to find any garage that i am happy to let them touch my car. cheers
  24. I see. Thanks for the info. :) I was doing a little research regarding strut brace, is it true that without an uprated suspension, strut brace is pretty much useless? Thinking of fitting it to my new car.
