  1. There are no provisions for rear fog lights on any vehicle made by Toyota for sale in North America. The rear light units are different than those for the U.K. and Europe and do not contain a position for a rear fog light. I don't know if there is any wiring for a rear fog light on a U.S. market LS460 but it is obvious that there is no switch position for it on the stalk on the steering wheel.. A practical way to have a rear fog light on a North American specification vehicle made by Toyota is to install an ECE approved aftermarket fog light and a separate switch for it on the dashboard. We have two U.S. specification vehicles modified for long term use in Europe. The small LED rear fog lights installed on them were purchased on eBay Germany from seller "lightsforbikes", have a Netherlands approval mark and were installed in compliance with ECE regulation 38. They are of very high quality but required the fabrication of a bracket and the installation of wiring and a switch Here is a link to the eBay listing: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Klare-LED-NSL-Nebelschlussleuchte-Dodge-Ram-Durango-Challenger-Chevrolet-Camaro/362407157100?hash=item5461265d6c:g:eYoAAMXQhuVRQeTB&frcectupt=true
  2. Yes, that is what they are called. Part numbers from http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_2002_LEXUS_LS430_UCF30L-AEAGKW_7601_5201.html : RH: 76851-50900 LH: 76852-50900
  3. It was when petrol was 99 Cents a gallon even over there now it's around $4.00 I believe. LS sales have been in a steady decline in the U.S. - with some small temporary sales increases when redesigns were introduced - since the LS was first introduced here in 1989. I bought my first LS400 in early 1990 when its base retail price was just over US$35,000. I was in the U.K. a few months later when the LS400 was introduced at a base price of £35,000 - vastly more expensive than in the U.S. but yours had a higher level of standard equipment. The 1990 model year was by a substantial margin the highest volume year for the LS in the U.S. -- one reason was that many like me rushed to buy an LS to avoid a new 10% "luxury tax" on cars costing more than $30,000 which took effect at about the beginning of 1991. Petrol ("gasoline" here) was US$3.64 per U.S. gallon (a U.S. gallon is less than an Imperial gallon) here in the Kansas City area when I last filled up our LS with "premium grade" (91-92 octane) fuel on June 26. "Regular grade" gasoline sells for about 20 cents less than premium. At the beginning of 2011, premium was selling here for US$2.94 per U.S. gallon and the most I have paid this year was US$4.04 per U.S. gallon in Omaha Nebraska on May 1. I keep detailed records. I've personally seen only one LS600h here in the U.S. - ever - and I pay a lot of attention to cars. People here seem to be moving to lower priced models in the Lexus line as LS prices increase and to other brands of cars. Those who might have bought the LS in better economic times are now buying the front wheel drive Lexus ES350 which has been significantly improved over previous ES models. And Hyundai has begun to impact Lexus LS sales with its Genesis 3.8 V6 and 4.6 litre V8 sedans and now with its recently introduced US$65,000 Equus sedan which has a rear seating package (including Ottoman style recliner on one side) similar to the LS460L/LS600hL.
  4. The procedure for removing the headlights is essentially the same for all LS400's. First remove the front turn signals (or city lights on the Mk I,II,III) to expose one or two bolts/screws holding the headlight unit to the body. Remove those bolts/screws and the bolts/screws holding the headlight units to the car body on the inboard side. Pull the headlight units out of the body and unplug the electrical connectors.
  5. I've sometimes noticed similarities between the Lexus telephone systems in the UK and US specification Lexus LS cars. Maybe your UK spec LS has an easily accessible audio mute pin in the factory installed phone harness like US models do. On a 1995 US spec LS400, there is a three pin connector on the driver side (left side for us) under the air vent you see when the arm rest is lifted. Here is a link to a thread on the U.S. forum that shows a yellow Nokia phone kit mute wire plugged into this connector. My 2000 US spec LS400 has a similar factory installed 6-pin phone connector in the same location. My phone kit's mute wire is secured to the mute pin (middle front pin) with a plastic cable tie. If you find the factory installed phone connector under your air vent, you can test for a mute pin by grounding each pin while your radio is playing. On the US 95-00 Lexus LS, there is also a audio system mute pin in the trunk (OK ... boot) on one of the connectors that would plug into the dealer installed Lexus phone ECU. I don't know if UK LS models have them, but the 95-00 US spec LS400 has a phone antenna imprinted on the rear window. If your car has an imprinted phone antenna and you have a charging cradle with an antenna connection you might be able to use it. My US spec 00 LS has a factory installed phone antenna coax cable near the connector with the mute pin. I connected the antenna lead from my phone's charging cradle to it and connected two factory installed phone antenna coax cables in the trunk to activate it.
  6. Odd. I'm not seeing a slot in the black box for a hard drive. The navigation ECU on U.S. models has a slot for an replaceable hard drive in the same place that U.K. models have a slot for a replaceable CD. Maybe the Celsior navigation ECU doesn't have a replaceable hard drive. Based on the connectors, the black box looks more like the computer for the Japanese market traffic information system. Does it have part number 86931-40010 on it? If not, provide a part number and I will look it up.
  7. I am only speculating but it is possible that your LS had an aftermarket phone system instead of a dealer installed Lexus phone system. When I had an aftermarket phone system installed on my first LS in 1990, the installer insisted on using his own phone antenna cable rather than trying to use the existing factory installed phone antenna cable. So, I ended up having two phone antenna cables at the top center of the rear window. The main ECU of the Lexus phone system on U.S. specification LS400's was installed in the trunk (or boot, LOL) but I do not know where on the early LS400. On the U.S. spec 2000 LS400 like I currently have, the dealer installed Lexus phone ECU was under the floor on the right side of the trunk just forward of the navigation system hard drive. On both my previous 90 LS400 and current 2000 LS400, there are connectors for the phone system under the air vents you can see when you raise the front armrest. Several U.K. companies including Dashmount can supply a mute lead which can make it fairly straight forward to install an aftermarket phone kit in a U.K. spec LS400 - mutes the radio during a call, plays the call audio through the door speakers and powers the phone kit. The mute lead plugs into your radio's amplifier. http://www.dashmount.co.uk/
  8. Dashmount lists a mute lead for a 98 GS300 at £32.95: http://www.dashmount.co.uk/ Some phone kits require an additional adapter (£7.00).
  9. Like Colin said, there was a very wide range of how well U.S. spec gen 1 LS400 were equiped. Very few U.S. spec gen 1 LS400's had air suspension. My 90 LS did not have leather seats - it had very nice cloth seats - and it did not have drivers seat memory, CD player, heated seats, or traction control. The only options mine had were sunroof, keyless entry, and floormats. The headlights were weak on the U.S. gen 1 LS400 - a terrible beam pattern (the bulbs were 45/65 watt) with a poorly defined cutoff, no beam control dial on the dash, no headlight washers, and the foglights were mounted up with the headlights instead of low in the bumper. I was quite jealous with a U.K. co-worker purchased a U.K. spec gen 1 LS that came with lots more standard features.
  10. I had to use a flat "pry bar" on my 00 LS400 to pop up and remove the rear seat cushion about a year ago. I was surprised at the high amount of force I had to use. Be careful not to scar the leather. It was much easier on my previous 90 LS - I just pulled the tabs and the cushion came right out.
  11. The little black button under the dash is either for activating the passenger ejection seat or for toggling the "beep" for the keyless entry on/off. Can't remember which ... ;)
  12. In my LS400, the radio mutes instantly when I ground the phone connector mute pin with a grounded test light. There is no delay. I have checked the specifications on several GPS Nav systems available in the U.S. but none indicate an audio system mute function. I am wondering if products of the same brand sold in the U.K. have a mute function and if the mute function is simply not advertised in the U.S. The main reason I have not bought a GPS Nav is that I thought I would never be able to hear the prompts when the audio system is on - which it always is.
  13. There are many differences between U.K. and U.S. models (other than your steering wheel being on the correct side), but here is a post from the U.S. side of the forum which includes a photo of a connector under the rear of the center console of a U.S. 95 LS to which blake918 connected the mute wire from his Nokia car kit. I have a similar but 6 pin connector on my U.S. 00 LS to which I connected my phone kit's mute wire. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...topic=24181&hl= The connectors were originally meant for the Lexus phone system. When the mute pin on the connector is grounded, the audio system mutes. I think someone on this U.K. forum once mentioned that that his 98-00 U.K. spec LS had a similar OEM phone connector under his center console so maybe your 95 does too. On my U.S. 00 LS, I also found a mute point in the trunk on a connector meant for the OEM phone transceiver. Does your GPS Nav have a mute wire? If so, would you mind saying who makes your GPS Nav?
  14. I suggest contacting a U.K. Lexus dealer? In the early 90's, I contacted Lexus Park Lane by phone. They provided me with side repeaters, mud flaps, and other items not available on U.S. specification LS400s. Excellent service -- the items arrived within a few days. http://centres.lexus.co.uk/dealers/5CE1DFA...2D000629CECDBF/
  15. I meant to say that "The photo of the LHD LS400 phonebase on the Kuda website is the NOT the one currently sold." My apologies.
