  1. Hi Guys, Many thanks for all the responses and good wishes re the Corona Virus. I have very mild symptoms - a cough is all - and I am back in the world of the living at the end of the week. Re the car: - Lexus Glasgow said the passenger side floor was soaking (Herbie has probably got this one spot on) and they reckoned the water ingress was down the A pillar. I sanctioned 3 hours labour (£110 PH + VAT) an they said they could probably find the leak within that time but that the cost of repair could be many hours and possibly a new windscreen . They could have taken my money but were extremely honest and i commend them for it. I got £3550 trade in for the car and I have been completely honest with the salesman throughout If a car minded person buys my RX at market he will be buying a cracker of a car. It has only 126K miles on it, FSH since I bought it, Hybrid warranty, 2 x new shockers on the back, 4 x new discs and pads within the last 2 years, a new exhaust 20 months ago, refurbished alloys and is immaculate inside as I look after my cars. A mechanic could buy himself a great machine here - just a pity I need a car right now or I could have possibly thought of keeping it and £3550 was too good to resist. I was offered £5125 by WeBuyAnyCar so there is money to be made on it. I'm really gonna miss it.....
  2. I am very sad to say that I am having to part company with my 2008 Lexus RX400H after 3 1/2 years. It has honestly been the best car I have ever had and an absolute dream to drive, but electrical problems have become a major issue. The car would not start 4 weeks ago and my mechanic replaced the Hybrid Starter Relay circuit as per the diagnostic check, but it still wouldn't start so he replaced the battery and it still wouldn't start. I had the car taken to LEXUS Glasgow who diagnosed a leak with water getting into the electrical circuits and their advice was that it would not be cost effective to try and repair. They managed to get the car started and it was fine for a couple of days then on Tuesday the battery was completely flat. I managed to jump start it and left it running for a while but on Wednesday it was the same, however when I went to jump start it again the alarm went off and it would not start. I removed the battery and bought a charger as I need to get it to the showroom to trade it in as I need a reliable car urgently, then I get the Corona Virus and have not been able to leave the house to trade the car in as arranged for Thursday past (all I need to do is get it 4 miles to the dealer), so I still don't know if the car will start . As the saying goes, if it wasn't for bad luck...... It has been great gleaning knowledge from this site, you have all been fantastic. Who knows I might return in a few years with a different Lexus, but for now I am downgrading to a top of the range Qashqai!! Take care, stay safe.
  3. Sorry Herbs, didn't manage to get the code from the Green Flag Technician. My mechanic cleaned up some corrosion on the circuits and managed to get the car to start, but then he had to disconnect and reconnect the battery to get it started again! He ordered a new starter circuit from Lexus (£97) and the car started right away - WITHOUT A KEY IN THE IGNITION!!!! He did not want to go any further in case it affected my Hybrid battery warranty, so the car is now sitting at Lexus Glasgow and is booked in for 10.15 tomorrow. Hopefully they can diagnose the problem and get the car back on the road without me having to take out a second mortgage?
  4. Hiya, My car wouldn't start today after being OK on a short run. I had a new battery in the boot so fitted that but still no luck, although all the ignition lights were on. Green Flag recovery did a quick diagnostic and the fault recorded was the Hybrid Starter Relay, car now sitting outside my mechanic's garage - has anyone experienced this issue before and, if so, is it an expensive repair? Many thanks.
  5. Thanks for the response, I got quoted £104 for replacement from a car breaker specialising in Lexus cars. Waiting to hear from my mechanic to see if he want to have a go at stripping it down to have a look. Will keep you informed of any progress
  6. Hi Guys, On Thursday my rear wiper was moving slower than usual and making a screeching noise, today the arm stopped half way through the first upward sweep and will not move. It's been working fine all through the winter months. Do you reckon this is the wiper motor that's gone? Thanks
  7. I have just put 2 Cross Climates on the front of my 400H on 3rd February for £251.20 through Kwik-Fit who had a deal for 15% off plus a free set of earbuds. Best tyres out there for the price.
  8. Hi Guys, I bought 2 x Michelin Cross Climate tyres for the front of my car 2 years ago in October as the forecast was for a pretty poor winter - it never materialised. Last November I put 2 mid-range all season tyres from Kwik-Fit on the rear and last winter wasn't bad either. This one hasn't been bad so far, ice and snow wise, in the West Dunbartonshire area. I had the car serviced last month and was told I was down to 3mm in both front tyres so need to renew very soon, the back tyres were both 7mm. Thing is in the 2 years and 7 months I have owned the RX400H I have only done 16,000 miles. I know that all season tyres wear quicker than normal summer tyres, but they are a damn sight more expensive as well. Due to the fact that we have been getting kinda mild winters and I will probably only keep the car for another couple of years (It's 13 years old next month) I am thinking of just putting mid-range summer tyres on. I'd really like your thoughts on this matter guys, and any recommendations for reasonably priced (but decent) tyres. Thanks
  9. Hi Guys, Many thanks for the advice, I've booked the car in to have the tow bar fitted and bought the bike rack to fit on it. BTW, if anyone out there is thinking of getting a bike rack you will do no wrong checking out BUZZ RACKS, their E-Scorpion 2 does everything the Thule Easyfold does at £200 cheaper!
  10. Hi Guys, My RX400H will be 13 years old in March 2021 and has 115K on the clock. It will need some work done on the steering at next year's MOT as per the advisory notes on the last test. I have renewed all the discs and pads in the last year and a bit and the car is regularly serviced and Hybrid checked (the timing belt and water pump were done at 101K). I must say it still goes like a dream and is an absolute pleasure to drive. I am looking to install a tow bar and bike rack for 2 x E-Bikes as getting them on the roof rack is a major pain due to their weight, he height of the car and my advancing years. My worry is that I spend the best part of £1,000 on said tow bar and rack and the car goes belly up. Basically I am just looking for some kind of assurances from owners with similar cars to mine (age/mileage wise) and their experience of repair costs as the car gets on in years. I know I only have 2 years or so left in the Hybrid guarantee and TBH if the car lasted for another 30 months I'd be delighted. Just looking for some sound advice, as usual. Cheers
  11. Thanks Colin and Richard for the replies received, the bike rack seller omitted to state that the rack INCLUDED the roof bars, so I'm quids in. Got £450 worth of Thule equipment for £200. Tip top condition and top of the range equipment, well pleased.
  12. Hi Guys, I am looking to buy a Thule bike roof rack from a pal and wondered if any of you have such a thing fitted to your Mark II RX400H? If so can you recommend roof bars to fit?
  13. Morning Guys, That's the car just been MOT'd (as of the end of May) and passed the Hybrid Health Check (as of today) with all green lights on their visual inspection. I have now had the car for 25 months and I have managed to do very slightly over 12K miles since I bought it. My regular mechanic had been taking care of the car since I have had it and completed the 110K service last August when the car had 108.5K on the clock. I have now done just shy of 113K miles (Covid-19 obviously reducing my already low mileage) and realise that the next service is the 120K service and is a biggie. My question is as I only do around 7K a year normally, my next service will not be due until probably June/July next year (although I will most probably get an oil and filter change done next month) and I only intend to keep the car for a further year after that is it worth replacing the spark plugs at the120K service if the car is still going as well as it is now? This would be a major expense that I would not get back in trade-in value so is it worth the outlay? I have read on our American equivalent site that some owners have 190K on the clock and have not replaced the Plugs at 120K!! Just wondered what you guys thought and if any UK owners have higher mileage without replacing the plugs at 120K?
  14. Found out that the latest disc I could get is 2018/19 as Lexus moved to SD card and USB updates. Found a supplier on the web who have been VERY helpful and who can get me a disc for £27.99, guaranteed for 12 months, so that will do me. Anything it can't find there is always Google Maps!!
  15. I have booked the car in for the Hybrid check next Tuesday and have asked Lexus, Glasgow, for a price to upgrade the satnav system but they haven't got back to me yet.
  16. Hi Rich, I wouldn't have had a clue as it all looks so professional!! It does work but with al the new roads I'd prefer a more up to date model.
  17. Hi Guys, I've been reading on the site about SatNav upgrades and the problems caused by non-Lexus/Toyota discs. I finally managed to get my disc out of the unit in the boot and I am a tad confused by it?? As you can see in the pic the disc says 1993-2015 at the bottom but 2016/17 at the right hand side. I take it it is for 2016/17, meaning nt really that old so if that is the case I might just stick with it...
  18. Hi Guys, I said I would stick up pics of my newly refurbished wheels once I had the grey inserts and wheel nut covers, so here they are (the wheel nut covers were wrong size first time round so had to wait for the correct ones). I think they finish off the light anthracite wheels perfectly, just a pity the locking wheel nuts are a tad rusty....
  19. Nice looking car mate, you will NOT be disappointed. Re your queries: - 1. I just stick mine in for a hybrid service/check every year - costs about £70 and that guarantees the system for a further year, well worth the money. Lexus have extended the warranty on the hybrid checks to 15 years so you might be struggling depending on when yours was registered.... 2. No aux in for the stereo system bu 6-CD auto-changer will play MP3 discs so you can have hundreds of tracks at your disposal 3. Headlamp washers only work when lights are on and you pull the wiper leaver to wash the windscreen as far as I know. There are guys far more technically advanced than me on the site and they are always willing to help. Happy motoring.
  20. Hi, Is there an easy way to check which version of satnav is in my 2008 RX400H? I cannot get the DVD to eject from the player in the boot of the car so wondered if there is any way I can check using the display in the car? Thanks
  21. Managed to find grey Lexus centre wheel caps and wheel nut covers on ebay, so that might improve the look slightly....
  22. Dear All, Many thanks for your comments on my refurbish dilemma. I have attached before and after pics and have the following observations: - 1. The refurb unit is in Dumbarton, I decided on 'light anthracite' 2. They did all 4 wheels by 5.00pm for £180, only problem was they did not do the inserts and they reason given is that they have been sued in the past as the refurb process can damage the caps. Had they told me this before I decided on the 'light anthracite' I would probably have went for silver, but hey ho I think you need to be looking for the difference to really spot it, and if it still bugs me in a week or so's time I'll look at painting them myself..... In the before and after pics I have shown the worst wheel, the whitish marks on the rims of the after pics are the lubricant stuff they put on when putting the tyres back onto the rims. Please comment, if you don't mind.
  23. Alan64, cost is £180 for all 4 wheels - thought that was incredibly cheap but the refurbishment garage is very well established and gets rave reviews - find out tomorrow if justified.
  24. Hi Scudney, yeh they do and I will have a better idea next Thursday. Might be nice to get something a wee bit different, just wondered if anyone else had done similar. Whatever I choose I'll post before and after pics next week.
  25. Morning All, I've got the car booked in next Thursday to have the alloys refurbished. I was gonna go for the same silver effect but the refurbishing garage recommends a change to Anthracite, says it looks stunning. Has anyone had this done to their silver SUV and if so how does it look?
