  1. Surely an obstruction such as some rolled mesh would help (or am I going down the chocolate teapot route again?)! Personally I prefer the "life's too short" attitude but then I'm not so vulnerable as I'm a country chap..

When reading any forum I get very annoyed at the extremely poor spelling and punctuation....... however I now hang my head in shame.. (should have typed MANY not MAY)

Mine is also an Advance Plus like BoutTime's running on 45 profile. Not too harsh a ride... quite bearable really although I see that mine are 225mm width (225/17 R17 91Y eagle f1 asymmetric 3) So may things to consider......
  4. It's interesting to read all the comments on this. I have to agree that the "standard" system in my CT is absolutely shocking both in terms of quality and volume. I had a few months driving around in a 15 year old Volvo with its Dolby Pro Logic system and I dearly miss the car for that alone. I love the CT but it is a big let down for a premium car..
  5. I have a Ctek which has been great through these torrid times however it was initially extremely temperamental and was ultimately exchanged under warranty. A great product though!
  6. Thanks everybody. As expected but good to know for certain from the experts!
  7. ....I press the transmission "P" button while moving? Today I accidentally pressed the button while the car was just about moving and it stopped instantly, nearly throwing me through the screen! It got me wondering what would have happened if I was going much faster.
  8. I nearly always buy young high mileage cars whatever the brand. As long as you do the usual checks the financial savings can be huge. Just make sure the price reflects the mileage. These days I do as many checks as possible via phone/photos/dvla etc before even considering viewing. Try to enjoy the buying experience as much as the eventual ownership!
  9. royoftherovers its a fair point but you have to take full responsibility for your decisions and do the relevant checks. From my earlier post you will see that the biggest crook I have had the pleasure of dealing with was a Main Dealer. There is so much homework that can be done on a car before viewing these days. Then of course there is the chat over the phone with the "owner" where you can soon get a feel for the sale.
  10. Reading all these posts reminds me why I ALWAYS buy privately. I always assume that there there will be no support from anybody after I have bought it. I was always taught from an early age that it's the car you are buying, not the previous owner. I have owned in excess of 40 cars in my time and the worst experience of all was......... you've guessed it!............... Main dealer.............. £40k for a Landrover.......... absolute pile of unreliable cr@p!...... sold after 10 months for £30k! I find that private cars are generally presented in a more honest way and are always cheaper too so you can buy your own warranties if you feel the need (I never do!)
  11. I never seem to use pads & discs on any car I own as I was taught to "anticipate" the traffic. It makes me laugh at the way some cars have brake lights which are continuously on and off. One of my recent Land-Rover Discoveries did 60k on a set of tyres and never needed pads either. My CT discs were reported as being in good condition yesterday but a little "rusty"... Sounds about right! SJT
  12. My 2015 CT is now on 116,000 miles. It's Essential maintenance all the way for me now simply because it includes the all important hybrid check. In fact is was serviced yesterday and passed with flying-colours (with the important stamp in the service book too) Any peripheral stuff like plugs, gearbox oil, wiper-blades to be picked up by me or my trusted local mechanic as needed! A cost effective and sensible way of running a car I would say! SJT
  13. It's funny you should say that but my previous vehicles were "nearly new" Discoveries. I do about 30k miles per year and I have to admit that they were so unreliable it was ridiculous. And the depreciation of £1k per month was no fun either! Each one of them was a £40k car and each one of them went no more than 5 weeks between breakdowns!.... Limp mode on the M6 is no fun! SJT
  14. ..... it's all part of the CT200 owner experience. I have never known a car with such an incomprehensible system. It took me nearly an hour to turn up the bass the other day!.. Still a great car though! SJT
  15. When i flick between lpg & petrol the readout drops by about 10% (ish!). I dont know how it all works but i assume its a genuine readout of the lpg mpg!!?? Its so cheap to run that it doesnt really matter! SJT
  16. On my Rx300 series 1 its now time to replace the tyres, currently using the standard 215/70x16 size on standard Lexus (slightly corroded) wheels. Could you chaps let me know if any other size is suitable or should i just stick with the standards? As always any help would be appreciated. Thanks, SJT
  17. My 02 plate is serviced at each 10,000. Watch out for the 90k cam belt change which will cost a few hundred & also check to see when the plugs were last changed as they are also a bit pricey! Not sure about the minor/major mix though! SJT
  18. Don't forget that you also get a saving on Roadtax. My tax is now £195 instead of £210. I will be looking to upgrade to a series 2 Rx shortly so its good to see that conversion is possible. I certainly would not own a car without lpg at the moment. No regrets here! SJT
  19. I must admit that i always go for the "fingers crossed" option. My RX300SE is now 5 years old with 130k on the clock. Cheap as chips running on lpg with no problems whatsoever, apart from a throttle cable in the last few years. I would probably go for a warrantee which covered alloy wheels as i am getting fed up paying for those. I have never has a car before where the tyres last longer than the wheels!!!!. SJT
  20. Deskbound I have sent a PM with contact details as you have requested. Best of luck on this, you will not regret. SJT
  21. Thanks for this post - much appreciated. Do you mind telling me where you had it done? Thanks I have now sent you a PM with the contact details. Cheers SJT
  22. My response would be "GO FOR IT!" I converted my 90,000mile 2002 Rx about 2 years ago and have no regrets whatsoever. Mileage is now 130,000m and all is fine. I buy gas at 32p/litre from my employer so the savings are huge. The tank, which is in the boot requires a fill-up after every 200miles which is a bit of a pain; so try to get the biggest tank you can. Its about time I bought a new car but whatever it is it will be on lpg straight away! SJT
  23. Does a k&n make a big difference to performance/economy or is it just a man thing? I have a Mk1 and would always welcome any improvements. SJT
  24. I have just collected my car from the nice chaps at Lexus Exeter where it has just had its 120,000 mile service. Unfortunately, due to a few LPG pipes being in the way, they were unable to change the sparkplugs. Could anybody please advise whether this is easy as a DIY project or whether its best left to the experts? Any advice would be appreciated. I was fortunate to be given a lovely RX350 for a few days while mine was in the garage. A great leap forward generally from mine but I was a little shocked at the amount of road noise and also the sub 19mpg even during easy driving. Thanks, SJT.....
