  1. The modern white lights are even more blinding when your own lights are less effective than the on coming car it makes the problem worse and you can’t use main beam with on coming traffic. After a bit of reasearch on the hid conversion kits I found out they are not road legal unless the headlight the conversion is put into Is hid certified. Why would anyone be putting a hid conversion into a headlight that’s already hid. ECP have the Phillips white light bulbs that come with the 501 side light replacements for £16.99.
  2. It was the night breakers I used in the merc I didn’t keep it long enough to find out about the longevity of them, im looking at Phillips white light bulbs or a hid conversion I did a quick google search on the hid conversion someone in the states has done it on a mk3,it looks quite expensive and possibly a bit ridiculous on a 22 year old otherwise unmodified car. interesting information on the voltage at the bulbs I might try that test.
  3. I had to drive into the new forest last night and I noticed how poor the headlights were when there were no street lights. i have an ls400 mk3 and in many ways it can keep up with modern cars but the headlights are terrible compared to new cars. i am thinking of trying a bulb upgrade this worked to some extent on a Mercedes of the same era that I had. Hopefully the bulbs are just old and degraded or maybe it’s my eyesight,Has anyone else had this problem.
  4. Has anyone experienced the stereo volume turning itself up on its own, this happens regularly I haven’t Tried to look at anything yet as I don’t know where to start. Im thinking it’s an amplifier problem anyone know where to find it or them?any help appreciated.
  5. I ended up ordering discs and pads all round from Lexus, then they asked if I wanted to collect the parts from Toyota(must be the same group) Now I go straight to Toyota, discs and pads all round came to £357 after discount. The service kit (6l of oil,air filter, pollen filter, oil filter, sump washer)was £51 because they were doing a deal on the oil 5 litres came to 1 pence. I have nearly got the car up to scratch,I’ve had the wheels refurbed with new Goodyear efficientgrip tyres fitted, new discs and pads fitted(no more grinding)blead the brakes put new fluid in(pedal feels much better)and serviced the engine(can’t see much difference hopefully mpg will be better) now I need to find where the knocking is coming from on the front suspension and I’ll be happy, although what I’ve spent on it plus the cost of buying it,is probably more than it’s worth.
  6. I’ve got the sill cladding off mine at the moment,I found a pile of damp mud had collected just in front of the wheel arches on both sides and it’s just started to eat away at the sill. Hopefully I’ve caught it just in time,I’ve treated it and sprayed it up. The problem is where the sill cladding meets the wheel arch the gap there let’s dirt in where it can sit between the cladding and the sill. The cladding is a pain to remove and I broke most of the clips underneath, but if you do this it might just save your sill from rotting out. The rear sub frame and suspension are also quite rusty on mine but it’s a 1996 and unless they have been really looked after or locked away in a garage it’s inevitable.Shot blasting, rust treatment and powder coating the subframe should get many more years from it. The design of the ls400 with the plastic cladding is very close to the Mercedes of that era and the mercs rust must more quickly,I’ve read that this is because they changed to water based paint.I don’t know if Lexus used water based paint but if they did is was applied much better than Mercedes.
  7. If they are plastic,on my wife’s ford c max I used 1500 and 2000 grit wet and dry,and sanded in a cross cross (instructions on line somewhere)and then buff out the scratches with a machine polisher.Very good results and they were really bad to start with,if they aren’t to bad you could use finer wet and dry.
  8. It’s only the insert I need ,the first bit comes up and then stops so the motors ok it must be the nylon broken so I’ll have to strip it down. Interesting comment about the Toyota Camry aerial has anyone tried one. I will definitely hold off paying Lexus £80 for an insert.
  9. Thanks for the help. unfortunatly the price does not include fitting but I’ve managed to get it down to £350 for discs and pads all round . The original quote was from Lexus hedge end I then phoned Lexus poole to see if the price was different(I know all mercedes dealers charge different prices)the man at poole said Lexus part prices are fixed.Poole gave me an undiscounted price, when I told them hedge end had given me a discount(without asking )he then undercut hedge end. so it’s worth phoning around,I’m still trying to come to terms with £80 for a mast but it probably is the best way to go.
  10. Just had a quote from Lexus hedge end for an electric areial mast the price was £80.Has anyone tried an alternative mast? They also quoted for discs and pads all round which came to £380,that does sound too bad but I’m trying to find out who is the OE manufacturer for Lexus brakes then I could source them elsewhere.
  11. Yes I’m just trying to order Dunlop bluresponse they are a summer tyre, but I won’t be doing much winter driving fuel economy ratings A and noise rating is better than anything else I’ve seen at 68db.
  12. I need some parts for my ls400,an ariel mast and probably all new discs and pads. there is a bit of brake judder and the front discs have a big lip,the rears are corroded. Before I walk into a main dealers is there a cheaper way to buy genuine parts. All I’ve found so far are American sites and the Lexus e bay shop.
  13. Yes it was a 7.5A fuse I didn’t check the fuses first because the previous owner said it was intermittent. now the mirrors, central locking and steering wheel motor work, will have to see how long it lasts. thanks for the help.
  14. The central locking on my mk3 ls400 only works from the drivers door button, the fobs dont do anything(ive changed batteries)the key will lock either of the front doors but everything else stays open. i have 2 keys 2 fobs and a master key the previous owner said it just needs resetting but I suspected it was more than that. ive searched the club and the internet and I can’t find anything that fits my problem exactly. from what I’ve read it may be a case of taking the door panels off and cleaning the locks or the locking Ecu is broken.the mirrors don’t work at all but everything else does. any help appreciated thanks.
