Thanks for all the replies. I think it may have been the spare tyre being different to the other three that cocked up the timing. I wouldn't say it is 100% better but it is a good 85% better with no drag or stuttering at all the vasy majority of times, so whislt I will note this to the garage on the next service, I hope we may be okay now. Thanks. Re the EGR valve, would I have this in a petrol engine? I was going to say before that it feels like when I had a diesel car before and the exhaust was dirty and I needed to hit the gas while holding the clutch to try and blow out the balck smoke. It felt then like low power or stuttering when clicked, the same as I get now.

Thanks. Rich1068 I don't have a code reader, do you mean diagnostic unit? Delphius, I have no warning lights at all showing. Can I get this diagnostics done at most garages? I think that is what I need to do. I am not sure what the tyres were but we had a flat last week so I fitted the spare, which is being replaced this morning. We are in France and the car is left hand drive. Trying to think if the issue happened before I fitted the spare? Could this be anything? Thanks.

We have a 56 plate rx400 automatic petrol, with 135,000 miles and fully serviced. In the last week there has been a stuttering of the engine when going up through the gears. Once at 40mph or so it seems better but is worse when you slow down for a roundabout and then speed up again. It feels like something is catching or there is a lack of power in the low gears and the car judders a little as it speeds up. Could it be the gearbox or is there something else that may be causing this? We recently had new tyres fitted and had the tracking done so I wonder if this is anything to do with it? Any help appreciated.

Thanks Herbie that's good info regards the other parts. Sounds a bit odd they wouldn't do the full job with the other parts but will see when I get mine and book it in at the garage. One more question, do all 2006 rx400h SE have a sunroof or moonroof? The garage I am buying from has taken my car off their website now so I cannot see the details and can't remember if it had or not, even though I have taken it for a test drive 🙂

I also meant to ask, is there any way in your 2005 model to bluetooth your phone to use whilst driving or anyway to plugin an ipod somehow for music? Cheers.

Thanks Herbie, I probably will use my Tom Tom yes. I am going to call Lexus today about the cam belt. Your estimate out of the air of £350 for the cam belt was exactly what a dealer suggested it would be when I asked earlier in the week. I also thought this didn't sound expensive. He also suggested about £200 for the rear brake pads. Thanks.

Hi Rich, Are you happy with the disk that you bought? I need an new version including Western Europe for France. Is it possible to just put in a town name or do you need the full address and I don't suppose you can input co ordinates at all? Also, have you tried the voice control with any success? I did tried to look at your picture link but it doesn't seem to show anything now. Thanks.

I am buying a 2006 Lexus rx400h and I contacted the dealer who had done the last few services on the car to ask a few questions and I also asked about the headlights He said on my car I don't need any alterations for driving in France, which is what we are doing for a year at the end of the month. I didn't know anything about the AFS system so will look into this on the 2006 version.

The car I am buying has a full Lexus service history and I even phoned the dealership where the last few services were done and they gave me some info on their knowledge of the car. They suggest a new cam belt and rear brakes in a few thousand miles may be needed but I am going to get it serviced and a health check when I get it. The last health check was last October. The test drive went well and it does drive very nicely with the leather seats being about as comfortable a seat as I have ever sat in. Its also my first automatic car. Is the sat nav in your cars still useable being an old version and not updated like a Tom Tom that I already have? Also does it have Western Europe as standard or would I need to get an updated disk? Thanks.

Many thanks Herbie, I will definitely look through the service history for any new timing belts and reading more today I also would like to find out about the battery. I think getting a Lexus health check is a good idea. I was planning to get an AA check before I handed over my money anyway. Overall I get the feeling the car has a very good life expectancy if it is looked after correctly. Thanks.

I am new to the Lexus never having had one before and usually buy new cars on a lease deal over 3/4 years but we are going to France for a couple of years and are looking to buy a left hand drive. I have found a 2006 rx400h that has full service history but 116,000 on the clock. Reading some posts on the forum, it seems that high mileage is not a great concern for Lexus owners, even seems some wear a high mileage badge with pride. My question; is 116,000 over 12 years acceptable for this car, working out just over 13,000 a year which to me is on the high side. If I buy it, what should I be expecting to replace soon or look at when getting it checked out? Any other advice regarding this vehicle and its age is very much appreciated.
