  1. For what it's worth, I've found that you only have to lose a few psi on the fronts of mine (5 or 6 maybe), and during low speed manouevring (ie. parking, getting out of the drive etc) it feels like the power steering is totally broken. Weird really, the tires don't look especially deflated (although it's difficult to tell with lo-pros) R
  2. I'm a CAR subscriber, my copy has arrived too, i'd say pretty certainly these are not photochopped but real pix. You've got to remember CAR magazine is the same publication that had studio concept proposal pictures of the Ford Focus *years* before anyone else (when it looked like a space ship - kinda "no way are Ford gonna replace the Escort with that"!!!) *and* it is the same publication that (probably) got its wrists slapped by BMW for publishing a (rather critical) road test of a pre-production, non-production standard MINI prototype, *before* the press had officially been allowed to drive it at the launch. But they still get BMW's to road test and they still carry BMW adverts, so they'd likely see the risk to them of breaking a press embargo by a couple of days (possibly less if this issue is not yet widely available) is minimal. As for what the IS250 looks like, it's OK, almost a little bland in some ways, but I'll reserve judgement till I've seen it in the metal. The views in CAR are mainly "straight on" - front, side, rear, not many "three quarter" views etc, so it's difficult to tell. However, I remember (in fact I've still got...) the first launch article from CAR magazine on the original IS200, and that provoked a strong "must have one" reaction in me which this one has not. (That's not to say I won't end up buying one one day) :)
  3. For those of you who haven't figured out the search feature yet, try this thread from just the other day, on the LS400/430 forum titled "New 2006 LS430". http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=19768 There's 2 piccys of the new IS, more or less "blessed" by those on this forum who seem to be "in the know". Also I found on the 'net very similar pics (but of a grey car) scanned from a Japanese car mag. Apologies I have inconveniently lost the link for that - For my penny's worth, I think it looks b****y great, although the rear view looks a teensy bit too Mazda 6 for my liking. Nevertheless, I'm already trying to figure how soon I'd be able to afford a 2nd hand one (and I've only had my IS200 for a year..) cheers y'all
  4. I had a problem recently on my IS200 that potentially sounds very like what you describe. (The old thread is on this forum somewhere.). I tried driving over a bumpy road at 30mph, window down, gently braking with my left foot (right foot still firmly on the accelerator...) and the knocking went away totally. Turns out I was missing the anti-rattle kit on the brake pads of all 4 wheels, and one set of pads had worn to the point where they were rattling. (Doesn't mean the brakes don't work properly). This was pretty cheap to get my local dealer to fix for me. (Too lazy to work a wheel nut spanner these days) cheers, Rob
  5. It's *much* easier with more power and less traction - I was driven by a madman/racing driver on a track day who could keep the car sideways for ever. At the same event I had a go in a race prepped Caterham 7 with bald rear tyres (seriously - it's for autotests) which was incredibly easy to drive sideways, do doughnuts in etc etc. Also, I'm constantly amazed by what people can do with a bit of skill and a lot of practice - I once saw a film of a bloke in a twin engined prop aircraft, who flew it through a victory roll (ie. upside down) but kept the thing effectively always pulling positive g. He flew this manouevre one handed, because with his other hand he was pouring a cup of tea out of a teapot into a cup on the "dashboard"....
  6. Rattling Update: Thanks for all the comments. Yesterday I got the caliper pins packed with grease on the front brakes - made absolutely no difference to the rattling... So now I'm guessing it might be the rear pads, judging from comments here. I'll keep y'all posted... R
  7. Thanks - I hate it when you get that "not sure what it is" reply from a garage... Always sounds to me like "the boss wants to go to Hawaii for his holidays, and we're not sure how many things we need to replace on your car to pay for it..." But then I'm just paranoid - (or so the voices in my head tell me) I love my is200, it's the best car I've ever owned. I can live with the low rev whines from the gearbox around town (even the Top Gear magazine test slagged it off for that, years ago), and I can live with the slightly rattly idle (sounds from this forum like that's par for the course too). BUT it drives me mad when I'm just driving through town and it rattles so much that pedestrians stare (paranoid again?) 'cos they think something's about to fall off. R
  8. Help! When I go over bumps, I get a clattery rattling sound from under the car - although you can only hear it with the windows open. I assumed it would be maybe an exhaust heat shield or something like that. BUT then today I tried driving along a bumpy road, at 30mph in second and the brakes applied with my left foot (took quite a bit of throttle to keep it going, and made the brakes rather hot... ) Anyway, the upshot is, driving normally, rattles like hell, driving with brakes on, no rattles at all. So, do any of you guys have any ideas what this might be - is there anything in the brakes that might come loose and rattle? Any help gratefully received :) Rob
  9. That Sony double DIN box in the picture above looks sweeeet! What model is it, what spec does it have? Just planning what I'll do when my oem kit goes err3 belly up just outta warranty... Cheers
  10. Another helpful club member told me the other day that if you look on the tdi website, where the stuff about tte supercharging the is200 is, there are power and torque curves for the standard 2 litre engine. (and also for the s/c one, natch...)
  11. Yep - sounds familiar. I've had mine 3 weeks, and in a 50/50 mix of town + motorway I got 25mpg out of the first tankful. A recent long motorway trip looked like it might push a bit over 30 if used purely for "motorway cruising". PS - this was also based on 2 different drivers, me + wife. Can't really comment on who's more lead footed...
  12. Greetings fellow LOC members. This is my first ever new topic. Does anyone have a torque curve graph for the standard IS200 2.0 litre engine? If so could they post it, or a link to any the 'net if they know of one. I'm guessing that some of you tuners out there must have dyno'd your engines, but perhaps you did a "before and after" so might have the un-modded engine data. All I found so far was a German magazine article about the TTE supercharged car, on the TTE.de website. Interestingly, that showed peak torque at about 5300rpm for the standard car, which is a bit higher than Lexus says... TIA
  13. Congrats mate! Me too... Mine's a 2000 IS200S manual, 58k in japanese racing green. Absolutely luvin it! in all my x decades of car ownership I've never owned summat that was such fun to drive. At this point (after 2 weeks) I can't *ever* see myself returning to the DARK SIDE... PS: First post!!!
