  1. Whilst I can't help with the transition from GS, I bought an LS460 yesterday and also own an LS400. The LS, regardless of model is always going to be a luxury car first and foremost and is never going to feel sporty, however, that doesn't mean they aren't rewarding in their own right. We've owned so many cars over the years and performance used to be the first thing on my mind, but since buying the LS400 a few weeks ago, we have since sold our "sporty" modern 2018 daily and replaced it with a 2006 LS460 and I couldn't be happier. I drove it 200 miles home, didn't stop once and can barely remember the journey. Drive one, adjust your expectations slightly, and I'm sure you'll love it. Just remember, even the swb version is a big car!
  2. Thanks.......nothing too unexpected then. A 2 tonne+ behemoth is always going to wear suspension bits I suppose, and as for air suspension, I always swear I'll never have a car with it again, but here we are!!

So, after being so chuffed with my recent LS400 purchase, we decided to sell our modern daily and now plan to also buy an LS460, 2006-2011 model year to take it's place, but the question is as per the title of this thread, do they still have a cambelt or are they a camchain? Also, are there any model specific issues to be aware of as I'm hopefully going to view one tomorrow some distance away, so any help quickly would be much appreciated! I've also contemplated the possibility of an LS600H, however, due to the additional upfront cost, the only real advantage I can see is the reduced tax cost, as economy seems no better, the figures suggest they're marginally slower and they're around 50% more expensive like for like. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

  6. I've just had the same issue with mine. Hunted high and low and everywhere inbetween including having springs made, but in the end I bit the bullet and bought BC Racing coilovers for £680 because even having springs made was going to cost over £300 and the hassle involved just didn't make sense. The major irritation was if I'd had an earlier UCF10 or a later LS430 you can get budget coilovers for circa £230, but for some unknown reason, the UCF20 is not covered! The big plus though is that the BC's are very good.
  7. Hi Malc, Thanks for the welcome, and yes, it seems like a great car! As for being a Mk3, mine is the 1995-1997 Model (pre facelift) rather than the 1997-2000 Model, so I think it's a Mk2? If it is a Mk3, do you know exactly where the dial is located, is it easy/obvious to see, or do you have to remove items/trim to find it? I have to sort it out, as I think I prefer driving it over our modern daily so already have withdrawals.
  8. Firstly, hello to everyone! Secondly, I picked up my LS400 over a week ago now, and despite previously being off the road for 2 years, it has surpassed my expectations. It flew through it's first MOT for 2 years, is solid as a rock underneath, the Air Conditioning wasn't as cold as it should be, but a simple regass quickly solved that, and every switch, button and item does exactly what it should. I've clocked up a couple of hundred miles in it in less than a week and I can feel it coming back to life. BUT!! At 2am this morning my wife woke me to say the alarm is going off (why does this never happen during the day?). I went outside to find it beeping sporadically rather than actually going off. Unlocked, started, turned off and locked.....still happening. So, after doing this until 6am this morning, I went back out unlocked, started, moved, but this time locked via the key rather than the remote......all fine. Decided to use it today just in case some damp had got in somewhere, and obviously once I was about 8 miles from home, it started doing it again whilst driving, only now the alarm sounds briefly inbetween the beeping too. I've disconnected the battery just in case it needed to be "reset" but it's still doing it. In fact, it done this the entire 10 miles back home and the only way to stop it has been to disconnect the battery. Please help!!!! Thanks in advance.
