  1. This happened to me a few weeks ago - only once though - after a very heavy storm the night before. I put it down to damp in the circuitry as the problem resolved itself once the car warmed up - hasn't happened since.
  2. I too have had similar problems with various front suspension components replaced under warranty at both my services so far. I'm now 6k after the last service and the noises are beginning to come back ....
  3. 37 all round with reduced outer tyre wear and increased mpg - again as advised by the excellent Dr Bones
  4. will it make any difference with yours being a Sportscross?? ← Would have thought not - only slightly more weight over the rear - which makes for even better handling :winky:
  5. Following several trips to the "doctor" I now run 37 front 35 rear on my SX. I was getting excessive outer wear on my front tyres which so far seems to have been cured by full geometry check (recommended ++) and this pressure combination. however as you say there are lots of opinions on the subject :winky:
  6. Yep - Tony's the main man - he worked his magic on my baby as well
  7. Took my Sportcross down to Watford today - and what a difference! Now that the geometry and wheel alignment has been sorted by a real enthusiast the car feels MUCH better. Tony took the best part of 2 hours to expertly get the right balance of geometry to both improve handling and reduce uneven tyre wear. At my last service (9K miles ago) the dealer put on new front tyres and did a "full geometry". Yet there's already inner wear on both tyres. This has been sorted today so hopefully I'll get a decent life out of these tyres - so recouping the cost (and then some). The big difference has come in the handling - the car "sits down" much better under acceleration and really flies round corners - sooooooooo much more fun - had a smile on my face all the way home :D If you live anywhere near Watford or are just passing I'd recommend a visit.
  8. Those two buttons are only available on the auto box ............ ← Just make sure you hit the right one. When I first got my car I hit the wrong one when attempting a quick entry onto a dual carriageway - very embarassing
  9. Thanks - nice to know that my car setup is "normal"
  10. NO!... if your SX came with 215 front and 225 rear, We need to find out why before any advice is given, can you show the exact wording from the manual. ← The manual says (page 273 onwards): Specifications (IS300) Tires and wheels (Type A) front 215/45ZR17 rear 225/45ZR17 (TypeB) 215/45ZR17 (Sedan:Type C) 205/55 R16 89V (Sportcross:Type C) 205/55 R16 89V It then goes on (helpfully) to suggest that rotation of 215/225 combination is not a good idea. BTW my car is MY2002.
  11. My SX came with 215 front and 225 rear and the manual implies that's the correct combination. So should I change to the same size, and will it improve the handling?
  12. Yeah - different front/rear - a bit of a pain when you're used to rotating tyres - so it's not always possible to have the most grip at the rear. At least I know my traction control works Ok
  13. Thanks - can't do that on a Sportcross - fronts are 215/45/17, rear 225/45/17
  14. The rear tyres on my Sportcross are in need of replacement - after some research on this site I've decided to get some P Zeros. But what will be the result of then having Bridgestone Potenzas on the front and P Zeros on the rear? I hope it won't be a problem but am looking for an expert opinion. The fronts were changed at the last service (8K miles ago) and having more grip on the front totally screwed the handling so I'm looking forward to redressing the balance. My plan is to replace the fronts with P Zeros when worn (although nearside is already showing neven wear on outer edge.
  15. My Sportcross was doing exactly the same - luckily it was due a service last week - ECU reprogrammed - now starts perfectly every time :D
