  1. Brilliant, Jeremy Clarkson is a legend. His articles always make for entertaining reading and this one is spot on. I agree 100% with all he has written here. I enjoyed my RX 300 SEL but don't see the sense in the 400h. Clever but pointless. I now have an X5 4.8iS, Jeremy is not a fan of this either but I still respect his views.
  2. Hello guys, lots of new peeps on this site since I last visited. I sold my 04 RX300 SEL and bought an X5 4.8iS. Basically because I fancied a big engine before the fuel prices forced us all to buy a Micra. The X5 is rock solid, it feels like its made of better stuff than the RX but thats subjective. Hasn't stopped me from getting bored with it and now I can't decide what to buy. The BM 7 series is a superb vehicle once you get past I-drive but does that thing depreciate!!!! I couldn't bring myself to buy one it would be like throwing cash onto the fire. Big saloons in my opinion are best bought and run by big companies with big pockets. 4X4's, Estates/Sports Tourers, MPV, Convertibles, Sport Hatches are safer places for your money. Its not fair to say, 'Don't buy BMW' as they generally make excellent cars. I still have no idea what to buy next!!!
  3. You guys make me smile :) I miss my car already, but I have to get this out of my system. The RX is better than the X5 in so many ways. If it had a little bit more power and some bigger wheels and tyres to fill its arches, I might have kept it. I will take a look at the RX 400 when it arrives but running on motors at low speeds with no engine noise - that would take some getting used to ! (may not have my facts straight there but thats as I understand it). All it would take for me to return would be a big diesel or the 4.3 (?) from the new GS. Sorry environmentalists but I want some fun before its too late..... The Lexus experience is unique and this forum is great. 'When' I do come back to Lexus I hope some of you will still be here... Pete.....
  4. I always wanted a big engine, with all the issues over SUV's and stuff, I thought now was probably the last chance for me to get the V8 I really want. I'm 40 this year and entering my mid life crises so the 4.8 X5 is hopefully going to be the cure. The X5 arrives in May and has replaced an order for A Range Rover Sport (too boxy). Maybe when the power thing is out of my system and I come to my senses, I'll come back to Lexus...
  5. Guys I just want to say thanks for all your help and advice during my period of Lexus ownership. This is a great forum with some great people and I will miss it. My Lexus is going on Monday sold to a Lexus dealer for £31K (cost me £38 - list price £41 ) Tried to sell it privately. After 3,000 miles and 6 months thats a bitter pill to swallow ! It was my second car (hence the low miles) and I have to say it has been fantastic, I recommend the RX to anyone who wants a great looking, great driving, well built SUV. So keep up the good work, I might call in on the forum from time to time to see how its going. Enjoy your cars guys. Bye for now.....
  6. Its funny that this topics come back up again. A few weeks ago I stuck in an order for a Range Rover Sport because I want something more rugged and a bit more powerful. I like the 'normal' Range Rover but its a bit too Country House for me. The RR Sport is (I think) the ideal answer. I don't know when I will get my car yet but the funny thing is I have really started to enjoy my RX lately, so I really dont care that much. Surely not how I should be feeling! My wife will be taking over the RX when the Rangey arrives, it will be interesting to see which one we choose for the family holidays (got a feeling it will be the RX)
  7. Don't get dispondant guys, cars are complex bits of kit and with their increasing reliance on computers both in construction and operation its not really surprising that most manufacturers are suffering reliability issues to some extent at the moment. Thats not to say that its acceptable in this day and age but our expectations have rocketed. In my experience you get good and bad dealers with any make of car. In general Lexus UK will bend over backwards to keep their customers happy. Perhaps you should consider contacting their customer services dept to express your current dissapointment. I hope you get the issues resolved and then begin to enjoy the car as much as the rest of us. Good luck....
  8. I agree totally. I live offshore with no dealer locally. My supplying dealer ( Lexus Southampton) came to my house to carry out the recall. The car and the general levels of service are superb.
  9. Look in your handbook under 'Theft Deterrent'. This switch isolates the ultra sonic sensors so you could leave a child or pet in the car or the roof and windows open without the alarm going off. All other aspects of the anti theft system continue to function normally. Hope this helps.
  10. I'm not suprised you're angry, I'd go nuts. Lexus paintwork is usually so good. Dealer should really have spotted that at PDI or at least when they preped the car. I'm sure they will agree to paint the panels but thats not really the issue now, is it right that you pay so much for a car and then have to accept it being repainted ? Let us know what happens.....
  11. How doe's she do that seeing that they are governed to 112 mph ← Where did you read that? Think you'll find thats not true, brochure says 124 mph.
  12. Mate, please don't tarnish all police officers with the same brush ← A Police Officer who calls himself Scarface !!!! I stand by what I say, I see a greater Police presence on the roads with their mobile speed traps than in town patrolling the streets. Can't remember the last time I saw a PC on the street. I am sick to death of watching my speed, afraid of some Copper jumping out with his radar gun to catch more easy meat. Got my first three points recently for doing 35 in a 30 limit. The road was empty !!!! Now I have to watch the speedo constantly instead of watching the road. I respect the individuals who choose to join the force and understand the pressures they are often under but the system stinks. Motorists are an easy target. It has gone too far.
  13. Sorry to hear that mate, thats a pretty terrible thing to happen. Lets hope the Police can tear themselves away from their speed camera's for long enough to catch the B....rds
  14. I drove both before settling on the SE-L. Most reports favour the standard SE suspension over the Air, to be honest I couldn't tell much difference. You should ask your dealer to lend you another car for a couple of days to see how it compares.
  15. Thanks. you're right I found that out a few mins ago. Just been out with the kids its dark now and all rear view mirrors are virtually black (I know how daft that sounds !!!) But switch off the auto dim and there's a whole world behind me. I'll give the dealer a call & check it out.
  16. What at night !!? No I'm not that fashion conscious :D No sticker on the sensor either. And another thing, my last RX tilted the door mirrors down when you go into reverse, just noticed that this one doesn't is that right??
  17. Has anyone experienced a problem with the rear view mirrors (inc door mirrors) being too dark at night? Mine seem to go almost black, regardless of whats behind. This makes it difficult to see whats going on behind and almost impossible to reverse into my garage or a parking space. If I press the button on the rear view mirror and switch off the dimming everything is fine. Other cars I've owned with this function only tinted down when there were bright lights up behind. I would switch it off permanently but when you switch off the engine it defaults to on. Oh yeah and while I remember watch out for the rear screen wiper when you wash the car!!! I lifted mine away from the screen while I washed the window, then walked into it after I'd done the tailgate, as its at eye level it came so close to taking my eye out! Friggin hurt !!!! Pete
  18. Good to know your trip went ok and that you're happy with the car. There is no chance I will take mine into Paris, last car I took there came home on a transporter - without its front end. (not my fault, honest...) I had a test drive in a new Discovery today, thought it was really nice, much nicer than I remember the old one to be. But although it felt indestructable and would certainly be better off road, I wouldn't swop - let alone pay the £7,000 they wanted with mine in PX. So I agree, anyone with 30-40k to spend on a luxury SUV should take a ride in an RX.
  19. Nice work guys. I kinda like the colour, cream was looking a bit naff.
  20. I'm not suprised, the french have little regard for other road users especially Brits!! Nice place to go though.
