  1. Hi all Wondering if anybody could recommend a battery for a GS250? Ideally, a service that drops, replaces and takes the old one (like Blackcircles for tyres) Cheers!

  3. Hi all Ending up using Toyotec - a bit of a wait but knows what he's doing. Thanks for the reco!
  4. THIS^^^^^ go to a Merc forum and look for the discussion on your model. Chances are that it has happened before and someone has a DIY Dealerships can be beyond useless with these type of repairs
  5. Hi Saw your post - thought I would share my experiences dealing with dealers on a used RX and then GS 1) Photos from a distance really don't tell you anything - many dents/scratches aren't visible until you get close 2) Any dealer not willing to do a walk-around video or get you some photos of the car on request is not worth your time 3) Full-service history (FSH) is useful but not the end-all / be-all of condition 4) Used luxury cars are bargains but parts/service still command a luxury price 5) If you see a pattern of failings in the MOT history, you may be able to assume a lack of preventive maintenance (car knowledge/willingness to fix)
  6. Bring chocolate (Sprungli) - Awesome photos BTW
  7. Hi Any recommendation for greater London and west (Wembley, Ealing, Acton, Hounslow)? Thanks!
  8. Random followup question - pls take a look at the pic - Would the damage to the alloys in the pic pass MOT?
  9. Hi Hoping for a bit of guidance - I've been redirected to this forum for a used Lexus purchase We are returning to the UK after a 13-yr break and looking for a family vehicle. Previously, we've owned a GS350 and a GS400 in different countries with good experiences We're settling in the W3 W5 area of London (call it Acton Ealing Wembley) and need advice on the Rx450h I've been pushed away from the Lexus diesel towards the hybrids with the CT too small and my wife generally preferring an SUV Common issues / factoids I've read 1) Brake bark 2) 2011 and later have timing chains (vs belts) - this is better right? 3) Lexus maintenance costs can be pricey Questions 1) Issues from buying from 3rd party dealers vs Lexus dealers? 2) Is there a sweet spot on age/depreciation vs road tax / MOT concerns? 3) Generally I like to keep my vehicles for a long time but my wife tends to bumper bash a bit and I'd expect the Lexus to take a bit of a beat over time. How does body damage affect the MOT approvals if at all? 4) We'd have off street parking and a tiny garage - Is this size of vehicle appropriate for on-street parking (going to the shops) / this part of London? - Is this a real bad idea from a theft / vandalism perspective? - What about insurance costs - garaged vs off street? 5) Any issues with drive-train? I cannot find anything on repair costs / frequency of the CVT or the hybrid/batteries 6) Is there a way to diligence the hybrid system before purchase? Can I tell if the batteries are in good nick? Should we find a couple of good candidate cars - can someone pls recommend a good shop for a pre-purchase inspection in the area? Many thanks Cheers J
  10. I think the CT200h would be too small Does the RX 'fit' with roads in this part of London - call it W3 W5? Thanks! J
  11. Hi all New to the UK but not Lexus so looking for some guidance on buying a used IS and how MOT / roadworthy works Location would be Ealing / Action area of greater London with offstreet parking but no garage We are two adults and one six-yr old girl relocating to the UK after a 13 yr hiatus How we would use the car 1) School runs 2) Grocery / mall shops - not too far from Westfields I think 3) Occasional weekend getaway - motorway jaunts I am cross-shopping a used Honda Accord 2008-12 vintage for reference - what else would you suggest I look at? What I know so far 1) road tax driven by CO2 emissions - is there a sweet spot in the IS lineup or yr where road tax gets significantly better? 2) roadworthy / MOT testing - on the these older Lexus - what are the trouble spots? I am guessing rust.... Questions 1) How is the driveability of the 2.2d in stop-n-go? Some diesels can be quite lurchy 2) I am coming from a GS350 and a country with wider roads - My feeling is that the GS would be too big / long for greater London - am I off here? 3) I am assuming that a car around London simply takes a beating over time - with this mind, I was shopping 2-3k GBP (beater), 5-6k (mid-range) and 10k (something like a used E-class or GS or Kia Sportage to give a sense) - given MOT requirements, is there a good way to think about this? Thanks in advance Thanks in advance!
