  1. Just to confirm the strut mounting is not altered, all the cord is doing is absorbing the up/down movement of the strut as the mount did originally before the rubber in the mount settled.
  2. This may be of interest to owners with air suspension. Since buying the car in January I have a pitter patter knocking from the front suspension but also excess road noise First thing I thought was tyre noise but the car had 4 recent new Bridgestone tyres so it seemed unlikely, I read on the forum that the top mount bearings will be the cause and can be replaced at a reasonable cost I made arrangements to have the job done but when i got the mounts off the bearings were perfect so decided to give it a miss, luckily it is a easy job to remove the mounts without needing to remove the wheels, 30 min job for an old codger with arthritis, after a few months the noise was driving me mad so i decided to remove the mounts again for another look and although the bearings were still ok I discovered another problem, The mount has a 6mm gap for travel between the inner and outer parts of the mounting with a flange which acts as a stopper, the problem is the rubber appears to have settled so when on the car with the weight on the wheels the gap has gone and the flange is touching the main part of the mounting which is transmitting the road noise direct to the body and the when on rough tarmac the flange hitting the body mount is causing the knocking noise. The answer is to prevent the 2 parts of the mount touching and transmitting the noise, see the pic so as a test to prove the theory I use a length of 6mm nylon rope and wound it in the gap 2 turns and glued with hot glue to hold in place, The result is amazing the car now drives as I expected when i got the car with no knocks and minimal road noise. I plan on replacing the cord with a spacer from 6mm sheet rubber but for now the cord is absorbing the noise. sorry for the long saga Alan.
  3. WBAC are currently offering £2250 more than I paid for my 10 rx450 in January.
  4. I found some old posts in the LS forums with the info I needed so I have managed to get my suspension sorted.
  5. Hi all, I'm looking for some help to adjust the suspension height offset on my 2010 RX450h SE-L with air suspension using Techstream, I did raise it about 20mm to try and level it but it is now not level and too high and i want to lower it, it seems a bit hit and miss so I am hoping someone can help with the correct sequence to adjust the height. could someone also give me the standard ride height for the car? any help much appreciated.
  6. Has anyone replaced the rear trailing arm bushes with poly bushes on the RX450h?
  7. Update, I gave the car the once-over and the struts appear to be okay, the pitter patter from the front turned out to be wheel balance, the tyres are barely worn Bridgestone been on less than 2 years and less than 2k miles but the weights were loose on nearside front and it looks like some of the weights had fallen off so got it rebalanced today and the annoying noise has gone.
  8. Thanks for the reply Barry, The fluttering noise sounds like mine, So i need to get the top mount bearings replaced, I know that someone offers a replacement service but i fancy doing it myself and I can identify the bearings when off the car, but I wonder has anyone got the spec of the bearings and I can get them beforehand to save any delay when the struts are stripped? would the worn bearings cause increased road noise? thanks.
  9. What are the symptoms to indicate worn top mounts on the 450 air struts
  10. Hi All, Can the air suspension be replaced with the coil suspension from the SE etc? or are coilovers available? has anyone done this conversion? thanks Alan.
  11. Thanks Radu, Drivers side front was around 25mm low so adjusted the sensor rod out 2.5 turns and got it sorted. Alan.
  12. Hi Herbs, I found the sensors ok, I need to check the heights to see which corners are high or low, Would it be possible for you to check the heights on your car either ground to wheel arch or wheel centre to arch. Thank you Alan.
  13. Thanks for the reply Peter, the links appear to be ok but i was unsure the best way to tackle the job.
  14. My 10 RX450h has air suspension and the driver side front is lower than passenger side, I am looking for advise on the procedure to adjust the susp height with techstream, I have done the system scan and have the info as in the photo but can anyone tell me what to do next to carry out the adjustment?
  15. My 2010 Rx450h seL has the air suspension and i want to check the ride height cos offside front is slightly lower I have had a look but can't see the height sensors, can anyone help with the locations? thanks.
  16. Has anyone replaced the air shocks on a 2010 rx450h sel with BC coilovers?
  17. Update.. I had no luck getting the bolt out so it will need to be cut out, however i will need to remove the shock so i can get the grinder in to cut the head off the bolt, I'll leave it till I get hold of a decent used halfshaft.
  18. update.. I had no luck from Febest they could not explain how to dismantle the joint so I sent it back for a refund. I am going to purchase a used complete halfshaft looking for a decent one with low miles if possible, there are loads on Ebay from around 30 quid but no mileages quoted so I am undecided at the mo. can anyone recommend a supplier?
  19. Right so I cannot move the bolt in the top arm I.ve tried the persuader and the Air Hammer but it is solid in the top arm and probably the bush, So I.ve ordered a induction heater similar to the one in the vid, should be here tomorrow so i will report how I get on with it hopefully it will do the job or I am snookered. I don.t want to get the grinder out on it. The tool arrived today exactly as the one in the video so i gave it a try, the nut was already off so i used it on the bolt head cos it was solid in the clevis hole a few seconds with the tool and it was free in the clevis, it was also seized in the bush so i heated the bolt head and the thread end to get some heat in the bolt and a few doses of wd40. I couldn't punch the bolt out because it needs a bit of persuasion to get it moving, there was too much movement with the other 4 bolts out, I have ordered a compact bearing puller so when that arrive I will have a go at pushing the bolt out, in the meantime the wd40 should be freeing it up hopefully. I'll give it a go with the air hammer tomorrow after its had a night to soak.
  20. I messaged Febest for some info, Febest replied and asked for VIN so they could check the manual so I sent that 9.30 this morning but not had a reply yet so it looks like I am snookered until after the weekend. I am assuming the joint has to be split to enable it to be fitted because of the type of circlip it was supplied with, The original is not off the car yet so i have nothing to compare. If someone knows how it can be done let me know. I know a CV is a CV unless it is for a Lexus rear axle but if it does not need to be split let me know how it is fitted with the supplied circlip as in the pic above. The other hurdle is the conical steel cover as in the pic it is crimped on and the boot is secured to it, unlike any other CV I have seen.
  21. Right so I cannot move the bolt in the top arm I.ve tried the persuader and the impact gun but it is solid in the top arm and probably the bush, So I.ve ordered a induction heater similar to the one in the vid, should be here tomorrow so i will report how I get on with it hopefully it will do the job or I am snookered. I don.t want to get the grinder out on it.
  22. I have purchased a new rear outer cv joint for my gs450h, this comes with a circlip as opposed to a wire spring clip so it appears the joint has to be dismantled to assemble on the driveshaft and fit the circlip to the end of the shaft inside the joint it looks like a normal cv with 6 balls but this joint slides although it does not slide straight out like the inner joints I have tried to swivel it to dismantle it like the standard front cv joints but it won't come apart. I have not got the old shaft off yet so i have nothing to compare it with. has anyone any idea how to dismantle the joint please?
  23. Thanks I've seen videos but they all just show a bolt or a rusty nut getting heated I was hoping someone might have used one to remove seized bolts in the bush steel liners.
  24. I need to dismantle the rear suspension to change the offside CV joint but have got a few seized nuts and bolts, I am thinking of getting a induction heating tool and wonder has anyone used one of these tools to heat corroded bolts do they work and would it loosen bolts that are seized in the bushes I don't have heating torch available so my only other option is the grinder but i would prefer not to cut up suspension arms if possible. This is the type of tool I am considering.
