  1. Hi Folks. I should be very grateful for any advice on replacing my plugs. At the last service, garage said they should be change shortly (car's done 119,000). It used to be such a simply job on my previous old bangers but guess that on my GS there's a lot more to it - certainly looks that way! Can anyone point me to some step by step instructions please? Do you think it's a job for a rank novice such as myself or should I leave it to the professionals and are any special tools etc. required? Also do you have any views on NGK iridium plugs advertised on Ebay priced at £35.70 for the six? Questions! questions! Thanks muchly in anticipation! Best wishes and an early Happy Christmas. Derek
  2. Thanks folks. Guess I knew the answer but no harm hoping for a miracle! Will just have to drive slower - or not at all!
  3. Hi Folks. Just looking on Ebay and notice that there's a simple gadget for sale that fits into the air intake, on the engine side of the filter, and by churning the air is claimed to increase MPG by a large amount. Just wondered, with the price of fuel being what it is, whether anyone has tried something like that and if they work. Best wishes to all.
  4. Hi Folks. Just a (hopefully) wee problem perhaps someone has the answer to. On raising the bonnet on my 96 GS300 this morning found the top hose flat and the expansion tank over full. On releasing the radiator cap the hose popped back so guess a vacuum must have been caused somewhere. As there was no obstruction to the pipe between the header tank and the radiator just cant work out what this could have been caused by. Any ideas and do you think it's ok to drive - am off on a fairly long trip tomorrow?
  5. Hi Folks! For what it's worth, my '96 GS radiator started to leak three months ago where the header tank meet the core and not having the dosh to splash out on a replacement bought a tin of Radseal. Poured it in and job done - so far at any rate - and all for under a tenner!. Ok, it might not last but so far so good and keeping fingers crossed! Regards D
  6. Hi Terry. Thanks for that (and thanks to all other posts) but it sounds a bit more than I can handle - using the road as my workshop as I do! Guess it's a job for the professionals - but will they do it properly like you suggest I ask myself? I strongly have my doubts!! Happy New Year all. Derek
  7. Thanks for that. Yes they are full on blue - and beautiful(!) - but guess it's cold fingers this morning changing them back! Happy Christmas D
  8. Thanks John. Well, I guess that's some more money wasted on the old girl - and cold fingers this morning changing them over!! Happy Christmas. D
  9. Hi Folks. Just fitted two blue LED side light bulbs (from China!) and on a silver car they look just the ticket at night, but have now been told that they're not legal! I guess that makes some kind of sense, as dont want to be mistaken for a police car, but does anyone know if that is the law? Best wishes Derek
  10. Thanks for all the help. My ATF is a bit dark so guess that's the answer Peter On another matter while I think of it. Bought some blue LCD side light bulbs last week which look great at night but have been told they're not legal! Anyone know if that's right? Happy Christmas all.
  11. Oh, thanks guys I can't tell you what a relief it is to hear its a common "fault". Had visions of a one way trip to the scrapper in the near future!! Thanks again. Merry Christmas Derek

  13. Hi Folks! I wonder if anyone can help on this one. These ccld mornings on first pulling away I find that the engine of my 1996 Mk1 GS will rev. ok but the car won't move at more than a snails pace. It only lasts for a very short time but never noticed it happening last year and it's caused a few problems just lately when pulling out into traffic! Everything's fine after about fifty yards. I've checked the oil level in the box and that seems up to the mark. The car's done 110 thousand. Very grateful for any advice - as long as it's not spend big bucks!!
  14. Exactly where are the leaks ? I'm guessing at joints / pipes. If so it's almost certainly because the AC has not been used and the O rings that seal the joints have shrunk or cracked. This could be a case of £10 worth of O rings as opposed to £1000's . I'd be concerned about shipping a condenser from America in case it got damaged in transit. Hi Guys. Thanks for all the advice. Don't really want to go down the "breaker" route as having a costly fitting and recharge only to find more problems later would be a bummer! The system is always running and the machanic, whos looked after the car for three years, says replacements are need - so guess I'll have to take his word for it. Afterall you have to trust someone!!!
  15. Hi Guys. Just had the results of a dye trace on the air con of my '96 Mark 1. Leaks from all major parts - compressor, condenser and receiver/dryer! Has anyone ever bought such parts from the States and have there ever been any problems with customs etc.? With the rate of exchange as it is I guess it should be the cheapest option at the moment. Would be very grateful for any advice!
