  1. Autosound in Bradford have just replaced my duff audio LCD, replaced the backlighting bulbs and modified the circuit for the backlighting - all for less than 10% of the cost of a replacement unit from Lexus. Well pleased!
  2. You could always try Roys Motor Company in Norwich - if that's not too far. They are genuine Lexus specialists with many years' experience, and are a lot cheaper than going to a main agent. It's where I take my '96 LS!
  3. Do you mean the "three-digit identification number", as described in the owner's handbook? You can change it yourself. If you don't mean this, sorry to have interrupted.
  4. Try this: www.roysmotorco.co.uk or: 01603 250058 They just fettled my front suspension today and no more crashing. Marvellous.
  5. Yep, Paulydude was dead right. A B-service and an MOT by a proper Lexus specialist for under three hundred smackers! I will now be a regular customer of Roys Motor Company, for sure. RESULT!
  6. Many thanks, PD. On the strength of your enthusiam, I booked the car in without delay. Will let you know how I fare. Meanwhile, may I now let out the tum as I find holding it in rather an effort these days?
  7. I am rather concerned about the main agent cost of my forthcoming B-service(1996 LS400), what with the slight looseness now apparent in my front suspension. Does anyone know of a good Lexus specialist within reasonable reach of Norwich? Has anyone tried Roy's Motor Company in that city, for example? In the past I worked for many years as a mechanic, but have now promised myself not to climb under any more cars! All info most welcome.
  8. I have to agree with the comment that Chris is a Top Man. If only we could persuade him to work his magic on our audio LCDs and backlighting probs, too!
  9. Bobby Bee! One of the many reasons/justifications I use for driving an LS, is that it gets up the long, thin noses of all those small-minded people where I work who drive tinny diesel-powered motorised bedpans and boast endlessly about their wonderful fuel consumption, whilst ignoring the savage depreciation which renders this frugality a myth. As for the LS being an Old Man's car, well, we all know how quick they are when aroused, and this morning I was chucking my Mk 3 around and it still surprises me how agile it actually is. (Best not try this in the wet.) Just before I bought mine, I sauntered over to a chap in one outside B&Q one Sunday morning and had a natter. He LOVED his to bits and was about 20 years younger than my 57 years. So buy your LS and after a suitable time, come back to our excellent site and tell us how much you are enjoying it!
  10. Get a Mark IV (1998 onwards)! www.Lexus.co.uk will show differences between LS 400 models. (I used ebay to get relevant brochures. Very inexpensive and great fun.) My Mk III has Devonshire Cream interior and it's nearly a full-time job trying to keep the carpets clean. I will go for Pembroke next time (still want a Mark IV). Beware of one thing. You'll never want to go back to a 'lesser' car.
  11. Many thanks ROYT for the suggestion. I just checked the two DOME fuses, but they were OK.
  12. Help! The backlighting to my audio unit, and all its buttons, has gone off. The fuses "Radio 1" and "Radio 2" are OK. I have taken unit out (not toooo difficult), and found several small bulbs. The thing is, surely they cannot have ALL failed at once? Anyone have any ideas? The display itself was pants - hardly an uncommon problem - but not being able to see the radio at night is a bloomin' nuisance. Meanwhile, this 1996 LS400 (bought this summer) is my first Lexus and I don't think I shall ever be able to go back to a four-cylinder, manual gearchange bread-and-butter job. I shall just have to sacrifice other things to keep wafting along in the manner to which I have become accustomed...
